Gen when are you meant to be travelling? I really really hope you manage to get home.

my assistant is fretting at present as his girlfriend is meant to be heading home to Scotland for christmas. she hasn't seen her parents for over a year now. (which i'm sure is the case for many people).

scotland have banned anyone from Jersey travelling via plane "until further notice" she's booked to go on the 23rd. but anything could change by this point.

she can't cancel as at this point the flights are scheduled (even though there is a travel ban...) apparently the only way she can go is to either buy a house there (and go to view it) or be part of a sports team.

Gensola · 17/12/2020 12:03

@ememem84 due to leave on night boat on the 20th and dock in Belfast on 21st. My poor mum is at her wits end about it Sad

Taytocrisps · 17/12/2020 13:09

Had a nice breakfast and caught up with my friend. I've a long list of things to do around the house today. I've a few things ticked off my list. A lot more to do.

Tightwad2020 · 17/12/2020 14:58

Hello all. Lovely day here - finally a crisp blue sky after days of rain and grey. I finally began to put up some decorations yesterday, more going up today, and I cut a load of ivy and other greenery while dog walking this morning. We won't be using the sitting room because no heating, but the dining room, breakfast room, hall and stairs can be made to look pretty and, between a plug-in radiator and cooking, might even be reasonably warm.

Tightwaddery under siege: have been spending a bit here and there on posh chocolate, (£8,), nuts (£6) fancy socks, (£25) paperbacks (£3 - secondhand), nail polish (£11) - just bits and pieces for son's and girlfriend's stockings. No big presents this year, but it feels too mean not to give them something small to open on the day. However, I am trying to walk the sustainability/frugality/anti-consumerism walk by buying secondhand/eco, and reusing packaging.

Right, more cleaning and decorating. Light fading already.

Tightwad2020 · 17/12/2020 14:59

Oh, I found a way to listen to Claer Barrett's FT Money Clinic for free - via Podbean. She will accompany my cleaning. I love her.

isawthatt · 17/12/2020 19:46

I hope you’re able to get to your DM Gen🤞🏻

Crazy few days here, angry FIL who isn’t happy we won’t be seeing him for Christmas and home schooling 2 very excited DC with 1 clingy baby in tow!. Big spend day yesterday, got most of the Christmas food shop done £125.

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/12/2020 06:45

17 Aldi yesterday while waiting for DD. £87 hair and £6.50 for DS hair too.

Wolfcub · 18/12/2020 07:45

Morning my lovelies, I have missed you. I hope everyone is ok. I think I've finally come up for air and feel slightly less overwhelmed so I'm going to jump back in if that's ok with you all?

I managed another NSD Ystd! Dd enjoyed her last day of term and came out happy as her friends had bought her some nice gifts (dd doesn't make friends easily so it's lovely she's finally found her crew.)

I worked from 8.30am through til 7pm Ystd and am working extra today as well. Will put in around 6 hours bank which will be helpful extra money in January. I realised recently that on top of taxing my bank shifts they also take pension off of it 🙄 My hourly rate post all of that being taken off works out at around £11 an hour which seems shit for a specialist nurse really.

Compared to what you can charge in the private sector for private work of any description it's shit anyway!! The guys who laid my floor charged £55 an hour each 😳

Anyway moan over.

Need to go to the post office later so won't manage a nsd today.

Gensola · 18/12/2020 08:36

Hi wolf Smile

I am having my nails done and a bikini wax today - trying to feel human again after the horrible experience of IVF drugs bloating me, daily injections and then being so poorly after the egg collection. It will be about £50 though so a bit spendy.

I need to lose about a stone I’ve piled on during WFH and IVF - did I see someone recently on here say they’ve lost weight? Maybe @Mrsmadevans? Share your secret please! Grin

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/12/2020 08:38

Hey Wolfie welcome back.
Tis shit girlie for all the good you do. We luffs you thought

I'm Christmas ready, got my xmas jumper on, sparkling trousers and pudding socks. Also festive earrings

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/12/2020 08:39

Is that the finance stuff done now wolf? Just final papers to go?

Mrsmadevans · 18/12/2020 09:09

Hope everyone is ok have a lovely day everyone 😀

Mrsmadevans · 18/12/2020 09:13

Wolf good to see you back sweetheart 😁

SingToTheSky · 18/12/2020 16:58

Hey wolf ❤️

Aw girlie so glad DD has found her crowd at school!

Spends £16ish on some chocs sent direct to my parents

Still no covid result. At this point I don’t care what the answer is (we are all fine now basically) it’s just stressing me out not knowing. DH still had to go to the doctors - needed an in person appt with a specialist and they said to go unless DS got a positive, he’s had no symptoms himself. By the state of him now he’s been poked and prodded a lot!

Was frugal yesterday and properly sorted leftovers (DH did a lovely slow cooked chicken and a sauce) so I had a bit of chicken for lunch and making a pasta bake tonight will be easy. So often leftovers are bunged in the fridge and don’t get used 😳

Unescorted · 18/12/2020 17:00

I have confused everyone by sorting the washing and putting it away....

I too have a Christmas jumper. Tomorrow is designated oh fooooook we are heading for No Deal shop, with a Christmas shop later next week.

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 18/12/2020 18:06

I've done a partial oo fook shop and have a list for more

SingToTheSky · 18/12/2020 18:15

I’m concerned we won’t have room for oh fook additions in our shop tomorrow! This is our last delivery before Christmas so the less DH has to buy in an Actual Shop the better.

I am getting mega pissed off with the lack of hot water/heating (boiler was dodgy for weeks, they ordered parts but can’t come till 23rd. We now also have no water even coming out of the hot tap and the boiler has stopped working at all.

This makes no difference apparently

Wolfcub · 18/12/2020 18:31

I'm going to do my oh foook shop between Christmas and new year Unescorted. We've been eating out of the freezers so I might have been undermining myself

Life no finances aren't sorted yet. It's all hanging on step change reaching an agreement with his creditors. Whatever that is will dictate the financial settlement. All the furniture is gone now.

Sing, hope you get the hearing sorted soon

Took some tumble drying to dms earlier to try and get on top of things

Gen, hope you feel brighter for the pampering

Girlie that does seem a pittance in comparison. Hope you and dd are doing ok. I've been worrying about you

Accidentalaccountant · 18/12/2020 19:29

Wolf good to see you back. All sounds Such a nightmare. Finished Christmas shopping But All feels such a let down.

ememem84 · 18/12/2020 19:32

At 4pm today our illustrious incompetent couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery more useless than a chocolate teapot government announced the following:

No mixing of households at all unless 25 or 26 december.
Work from home mandatory.

This has meant an impromptu unpaid leave day for me on Monday and hoping nurseries are still open the rest of the time. Otherwise it’s split shift working or unpaid for me ( dh fought for essential employee status from his work so should use it...)

ememem84 · 18/12/2020 19:38

I’m now drowning my sorrows with a really nice but suprisingly really nice cheap bottle of red wine from Romania. It’s a pinot noir I think.

EachandEveryone · 18/12/2020 20:37

I’m loving Romanian wines at the moment and very easy on the budget

ememem84 · 18/12/2020 21:50

This one was under £5...! Bargain. From coop. I think it’s simply calledpinot noir.

It’s yum though.

Just beat dh at scrabble. Second time this week.
