I’m with on the CBA to cook Wolf, I’d love a Chinese takeaway, can’t spare the money though.

NSD for me, DH paid for salad bits. I have a grocery delivery tomorrow, should be about £80

Unescorted · 15/01/2021 18:18

Chinese takeaways are so expensive here. The cheapest we have managed was £125 for 5 people. I have about 8 fakeawy dishes that can be knocked up fairly quickly. Biggest change was getting carbon steel woks (2 cost about £15) & spending hours seasoning them last summer. DD2 was amazing at showing me her family recipes and some of the more popular takeaway ones.

Wolf why don't you plan what to have from the takeaway when it reopens and you can look forward to it? I know what you mean about your own space. I am currently hiding in the bedroom with the door shut to do just that!

I had forgotten about the council tax break, that's good! I think it is Feb and March and then new year starts in April.

Nsd. Hooray!

Gensola · 15/01/2021 18:51

We are planning a Chinese tomorrow but I may suggest a homemade meal of some sort as I’ve finally hit a loss of 2kg and don’t want to bloat up on salt and MSG Grin

SingToTheSky · 15/01/2021 19:29

Whoa I thought our Chinese takeaway was expensive! We usually spend about £35-40.

I have been hiding under my new weighted blanket binge watching Community 😳

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/01/2021 19:42

Ah big hugs wolf. Bathroom with a lock?
We spend about £15 as we can eat a full portion of Chinese each.

Wolfcub · 15/01/2021 19:44

Chinese (a decent one) is £25-40 for two here depending on which shop.

Unescorted · 15/01/2021 21:22

I am being fleeced on the Chinese front. Ours aren't even delivered... can I just say the homemade versions work out at pennies... esp when you take DD2 shopping - she normally lives near one of the big metro ones & they all know her. I get mate rates since last summer.

Yum yes unescorted! A bowl of food is my comfort. Anything that can be eaten from a bowl with a spoon a la nigella! Mouth is watering for Chinese now... would love some fake away ideas.

Dry Jan has come to an end today. Whoops. Nice though, with some red pepper and chickpea taco concoction as we couldn't be bothered to go shopping (well, I did go shopping for wine!)

Happier you are my hero... you found a rat in your car and sound so calm about it! I can do spiders, snakes, anything really but not rodents. Dd has her heart set on a pet rat 😩

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/01/2021 10:37

Who was after Vegemite? Is this an acceptable alternative?

Can anyone recommend a cheaper version of a weighted blanket? And - silly question- will my cat be ok underneath it, as he has to lie under every blanket with me, won't take no for an answer?

Unescorted · 16/01/2021 11:34

Thank you for remembering my predicament. It was me. I managed to get some off Amazon. That looks as if it is Marmite substitute b/c of the jar shape. Being a Vegemite eater I rather gnaw my own tongue off than eat Marmite. Grin

I am trying to get enough enthusiasm together to get my walking things together. It is pissing with rain & I have said I would go for a walk with a friend. It is going to take some convincing.

SingToTheSky · 16/01/2021 13:02

MrsKL I just got mine from Amazon, it’s £32 for the biggest/heaviest (says king size but it’s not a king duvet size if that makes sense). It’s hand wash only but that seems to be the case with most.

Really not sure about the cat though.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/01/2021 13:12

I got mine after a Christmas thread recommendation. Let me look

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/01/2021 13:16

I got mine from here 4kg single for mil. She put a single duvet cover on

That's wonderful lifelong, thanks.

SingToTheSky · 16/01/2021 13:32

That’s the same brand as mine I think. It’s good so far but only had it a few days

maddenlightfoot · 16/01/2021 16:13

Before I catch up and lose my place...

January:
NSDs: 7/31
Groceries: £238.53/400
Everything else: £149.68/£350

MsKL · 16/01/2021 16:36

Just spent £2 54 on a tv guide and chocolate.

Wolfcub · 16/01/2021 16:46

£2 greengrocers
£5.50 bakers
£5.70 butchers

Pavements are like ice rinks. I've done my bit and shovelled I've of part of the street. No fecker else will

SnugglySnerd · 16/01/2021 18:05

I have reached the "very tired and irritable" part of the week. Dd just said I need a good night's sleep. Yes I do. The reason I never get a good night's sleep is because of you waking me up dd!

Dh did a top up shop in Aldi and also the butcher. Have meal planned for next week too.

SingToTheSky · 16/01/2021 18:29

I’m at the same point of the week snug although I’m mostly blaming hormones 🤣

Unescorted · 16/01/2021 18:48

£75 in Aldi today & £7.50 on cake & coffee for me and an exercise buddy. Food should do a week & £7.50 is less than an exercise class and was way more fun.

We went for a long soggy stompy walk on The Woodhead. I am so glad I live where I do. Next week we are walking my side of the hill if we are still allowed

Remembering the taste of vegemite takes me right back to living in NZ 🥰. It never quite matched marmite but has its own, very delicious, place in my heart!
