Yep, a fair few Covid cases in my sons school as well. Touch wood so far neither of mine have had to isolate, but the amount of year 7 cases there’s been I’d say it’s only a matter of time before DS2 is off!

There must have been one a day last week, nothing so far this week.

Happierwithouthim · 18/11/2020 09:06

born that's fantastic news, you must be so relieved.

curl we're all of different financial standing here, I don't think you should be embarrassed about what you spend, once it's not being thrown out or wasted, it's money well spent.

I didn't end up stopping for fuel last night so it was a NSD, never lit fire, only used heating don't know if it was placebo effect or not but I was cold and dd was, and heating was on for a few hours.

Spoke to solicitor yesterday, everything looking well with house now and she'll be in touch again tomorrow with an update. Once I've got bank's approval I'll be posting big spends here!!

Today my dc go to afterschools for the first time, they've never gone to this setting before. From when dd started school we had au pair and they are collected by a childminder the odd eve that they go to her this year so this is new. For some reason I feel worse about this than breakfast club, I suppose because I could've got childminder to have them. They will go a day next week as well as I've a hospital appointment. It costs €18, childminder is €30. Will see how they get on. I'm not enamored with the coordinator maybe that's why. She was a neighbour previously.

Found a solution to my tv dilemna, going to get a firestick and my former neighbour will jailbreak it for me. They're out of stock at amazon currently but I'm hoping they'll be there for black friday!

We have 157 cases here. and 4 in hospital. the 4 who have been hospitalised were in for other things anyway and were tested as routine and found to have it.

various years in various schools are isolating here. we have been told by our government that essentially if we behave ourselves and follow all the rules we won't have to go into a full lockdown again.

a lot of students are coming home from unni at present which i think will make the cases rise up again.

Happierwithouthim · 18/11/2020 09:52

What's the population there em just for comparison?
We'd 366 cases and 11 deaths yesterday for a population of almost 5m

OP posts:
ememem84 · 18/11/2020 13:18

around 110,000 people happier.

according to my covid app on my phone the following stats have been released:

166,926 tests undertaken (since march)
166,059 negative tests (as above)
775 positives (in total
595 recovered (as above
91 tests pending
currently 157 active cases of which 105 symptomatic and 52 asymptomatic

of those 157 4 are in hospital and 153 are in the community

ememem84 · 18/11/2020 13:18

and had to work out the amount of deaths...23.

ememem84 · 18/11/2020 13:21

i am stalling with work. we are going to see the counsellor today. i suddenly don't want to go. not sure why.

dm has called me 4 times this morning. to check im ok . because i said we had a bad night last night with dd. dm doesn't comprehend the sheer exhaustion with working and babies. because she didnt.

she's also just popped round (despite knowing that im wfh) armed with cake and wanted to chat. dh shooed her away (he's off today ) and told her that i'm really snowed with work.

then he felt guilty because he may have coe across as rude. but working.

we laughed at having the "oh no we have family who want to help us out" problem. ridiculous really isn't it. to be annoyed at it. but it does feel very smothering

Happierwithouthim · 18/11/2020 13:58

em is dm regretting not supporting you when you were struggling with dh and horse riding?

I guess looking at that your numbers are quite high relative to the population.

We have got through another day without DS being sent home. He doesn't think yesterday's case is in his year group which is good.

Em hope the counselling session went well.

Happier fingers cross for your house completion. I always find the last couple of days of a transaction to be the most stressful - and they shouldn't need to be. Also I should be used to it now.

Has anyone seen our lovely wolf around?

Mrsmadevans · 18/11/2020 18:02

Evening everyone 😀
Been really busy with present wrapping and Mum .
Only spends were 13 in Morrisons for a curry 😀
Hope everyone is ok will catch up soon 🤗

Wolfcub · 18/11/2020 19:11

I'm still here unescorted I was though thinking about @ChristmasSeacow who I don't think we've seen for a while and @Girliefriendlikespuppies

Totally knackered and fed up with work at the moment

Em I was randomly wondering earlier if the Channel Islands have a university, I assume there aren't enough people to have one of your own. Do the students mainly go to UK universities or French?

We have had a few cases at school this week. I am counting the days that none of us has been sent home or told to isolate as a blessing. 4 and a bit weeks until the end of term, I wonder if we can make it 🤞

NSD

ememem84 · 18/11/2020 19:49

snuggly I’d say the majority of students go to uni in the U.K. although we do have w college which offers limited degrees via uni of Buckingham I think. When I went (to Southampton) this wasn’t an option.

Counselling was odd. I didn’t get a feel for it. The guy who was the counsellor was a bit condescending and I got a wierd vibe from him.

Bornlazy · 18/11/2020 20:45

Your dm must be worried about you. My dm is frequently unsympathetic to me as she is similar to yours and thinks I have it lucky as dh helps out with the dc and chores. However every now and then she surprises me and becomes overly concerned about something I am going through and it always takes me by surprise.

We go into level 4 restrictions from Friday for 3 weeks 😨 She's not locking everyone down just the areas with really high numbers. I've been trying to get my Christmas cards and bags organised as all non essential shops will close.

northender · 18/11/2020 21:21

Supposed to be a day off today, but I had work that couldn't really be put off or passed on so I have been working on & off but I will claim the time back at some point.
I am determined to try to avoid Amazon & other big companies for present buying this year, so I have ordered a few things for dd (birthday & Christmas) online. A local bookshop have just got a good website up & running so I have just ordered a couple of books from them.
No other spends today

tinatsarina · 18/11/2020 21:30

hi ladies can i join? i find myself trying to budget and save but my big weakness is going to the shop after the morning school run and buying snacks etc just for the sake of it 32 here and there eventually add up and i need to stop.

tinatsarina · 18/11/2020 21:30

sorry thats £ here and there not 32

Unescorted · 18/11/2020 21:51

Hi Tina everyone is always welcome here.

I thought sea was doing a bit of a break.

north we have a couple of local fb pages who are doing shop local click & collect.... first time FB has been useful beyond has anyone seen my dog or who's sheep/horse/ chicken/ cow is blocking the road posts. Some of the things being offered are really useful eg window cleaning or dog walking for a year vouchers. Or totally beautiful.... local artists offering up some stunning things. Others are in the Etsy reject barrel.... but less said about those the better.

Bornlazy · 18/11/2020 22:09

Hi tina and welcome. I find it impossible to go into a shop and not buy a load of extra crap so I try not to shop too frequently. If I just need say milk and bread then I go to my local corner shop as even though it costs a bit more there's less to temp me.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/11/2020 07:07

Hi Tina. Avoiding the shop for a bit is the only way.
My DM does that too born.
Milk needed this morning. Sainsbury's tonight £105 ish C&C
I've done lots on Amazon but tried other places locally first.
I've got a magazine sub, 2x Xbox vouchers and a skate ramp left to get and I'm done except for food

Wolfcub · 19/11/2020 13:15

Welcome Tina

Have taken the afternoon off. The nonsense at work has got beyond ridiculous and I'm not staying there today to put up with it

Happierwithouthim · 19/11/2020 13:40

wolf please relax and forget about housework and enjoy the time while ds is at school

OP posts:
Unescorted · 19/11/2020 17:37

wolf I took a very long lunch too for that very reason.

I am knackered today - my humour has left the building. I need to take some holiday.

SnugglySnerd · 19/11/2020 19:42

Welcome Tina

That's interesting about universities, must make it even more expensive for Channel Island students because of the travelling involved. Sorry you got a bad vibe from the counsellor.

I am absolutely shattered, has a very busy couple of days and I think this is the first time I have sat down and done nothing. I should do some work really but I can't be bothered!

Low spend day. I bought a coffee and a drink each for the dts while we were out for a walk. I had taken water bottles with us but we were really cold and fancied a hot drink!

ememem84 · 19/11/2020 20:08

snuggly we also pay fees as if we’re international students. Sigh. Or at least that was how it worked when I went.

Dd is playing silly buggers again tonight. Will not sleep.

When. Will. This. End?! I’m knackered.

Have taken some holiday thiugh. Have 2.5 days left to take. So have booked one day a week for the next 3 weeks or so. Yay.
