Food shop today. Cannot get the cost down to pre Covid levels, and I do not know why.

But it’s ok, we can soak up the extra. Any more than this and we will have to take another look at things.

Everything’s up in the air at the moment. We’ve gone from a self employed partnership to DH being in paid employment. And hopefully if Boris says so I’ll be starting my new job in a few weeks. So I’ve no idea where we will be in terms of tax credits. I think we will owe them, and once I’m working and DHs overtime is factored in we will no longer qualify at all. It’ll be nice to no longer have to rely on them.

I just want to know where we are. Also need to re jig our insurance policies. Need to get DH to find out what his work policies cover him for, so we can redo everything. It’s been several years since I’ve done this so long overdue.

WreckTangled · 10/11/2020 21:15

Our food shop is more and more each week too. Doesn't help that ds doesn't stop eating. A normal breakfast for him is: 2x toast, a bowl of readybrek, bowl of cereal, pain au chocolat, fruit and then he still says he wants more Confused I have found that Lidl has got really expensive so I always stick to Aldi now. Also means I'm not tempted by the bakery.

SnugglySnerd · 10/11/2020 21:15

This week is dragging. The days have been hard work and the nights have been sleepless. I need all the dcs to sleep all night so that I can!
Nsd.

ememem84 · 10/11/2020 21:50

Oh snuggly. I feel your pain. We’re down to a fuss at bedtime and one wake up a night with dd. Usually around 5am.

Dh has booked counselling which is good I suppose. I wasn’t sure if he’d do it or not.

Pilates tonight. Feeling a bit scrunchy now.

Mrsmadevans · 10/11/2020 23:14

Posted earlier but must have been swallowed into the ether Hmm
I hate it when that happens .
Have been to Tesco £8 on fruit and veg. The lovely big sweet clementines are just coming into Tesco bought 3 bags today Grin

Mrsmadevans · 10/11/2020 23:18

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/11/2020 06:44

Fingers crossed for sleep.
Positive step re counselling.
Aldi is still good value for us but food is £££ and rising.

Doing the Sainsbury's double up tonight as I have £70 ish of points

Wolfcub · 11/11/2020 06:54

Agree re rising food prices. My shopping costs are horrendous at the moment.

Good news re counselling Em

Awake for hours. Going to be a long day

Snuggly I hope you get some sleep soon

Unescorted good news re pay rise

Unescorted · 11/11/2020 07:19

I thought it was just us with the shopping. Happily Aldi is on the way home from dropping DS to school which removes the temptation of going to a more expensive but more convenient supermarket. For the things Aldi doesn't do Morrisons is also on the way - but given teh queues are longer better managed it is only used when I run out of Vegemite or Bread flour.

Kiddos are to come home for Christmas.... Grin I get my baby girl back.

Happierwithouthim · 11/11/2020 08:23

em that's great news
unescorted great news about Christmas for you

I'm doing ok with shopping, this week's massive spend was because dc were with me!

I'm going to plod along with Dunnes for now, debating changing back to Aldi also or Tesco delivery maybe when I move house.

morning all. £4.35 on coffee and a danish for breakfast. also a free coffee as my loyalty card was full. yay.

working from home today. have a seminar online at 10, then my therapy session on line at 12. then osteopath at 4 (in person). so far this morning have stripped covers from the couch and am waiting for them to finish washing - dd smushed banana on it. sigh

we are also getting our new mattress delivered today at some point this afternoon (sods law it will be at 345 when i have to leave to got to the osteo. or during my session with therapist).

but yay. new mattress!

CurlsandCurves · 11/11/2020 09:03

@lifelongfrugaleer I knew the Sainsburys double up must be soon, wasn’t sure when. They keep it very quiet, don’t they? I don’t have a lot on my card, but enough to get a few bottles of fizz in for Christmas.

Mrsmadevans · 11/11/2020 09:06

Morning everyone 😀
Unescorted wonderful news ❤️
Happier never heard of Dunnes is it in ROI lovely?
Em new Mattress yay!
Better shift off to MumBobs 😄

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/11/2020 09:34

Yeah, good news re kiddos
£40 fuel for car

Happierwithouthim · 11/11/2020 09:35

There are some in the UK as well, it's similar to Tesco really but I guess a bit like M&S they have their Simply Better range too which is good.

They've a homewares section and sell clothes too, when I was young it was on a par with Primark clothes wise but it has really improved over the years. Some of their knitwear is on a par with M&S now, I've got some tops and jumpers that are a few years old and as good as the day I got them.

Happierwithouthim · 11/11/2020 09:42

Spoke to my solicitor yesterday and the vendor of the house so things are moving along there.

My extension is actually a new loan offer and interest rate is 0.4% lower which will save me €7,000 over the term of the mortgage Grin I hope to make bigger payments. I've been paying €800 a month rent and doing ok. Mortgage will be €442.00, mortgage protection €10.36 and life assurance €23.54, I'm also going to be paying health insurance benefit in kind of approx €65 too that I haven't been paying previously so approx €260 to spare. I'll be back to paying for internet also and house insurance will possibly be more than I pay for rental insurance so say €200 to spare. It'll help bring down term of mortgage. If I'm paying for dd's teeth alone those overpayments will be delayed but still it's a nice comfort.

spoke to mattress people and they will deliver after one appointment and before the other. they will also take the old mattress away fro £30. bargain.

to be fair i could have got it taken away for around £20 but would have had to wait for a while to book the delivery/removal guys in . so the additional £10 is well worth it.

listening to a tax seminar at the moment. god its dull.

Happierwithouthim · 11/11/2020 10:56

I must do some CPD stuff too, it's quiet at work today, think I'm going to try get it out of the way

OP posts:
Unescorted · 11/11/2020 11:06

Happier that is is good saving!

Em good of them to narrow the delivery time.

ememem84 · 11/11/2020 12:03

usually i'd go to the seminars in person, but because covid, all of them are online webinars now. so we can log in and i can also work whilst listening. efficient!

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/11/2020 12:56

And we have accepted an offer on the house.

Good savings there happier.
Defo worth the £10 em.
