Well done Mrs hope you are looking after yourself

Glad ds enjoyed his day Sea

I'm full of cold, it's on my chest. Grr.

Work has been shit. I could merrily tell them to stick it right now.

I've pulled up the attic carpet including removing about 40 bloody long nails that were pinning an edge. May need to touch up a bit of paint there (oops but there was no other way). Brought three replacement doors over from df's. Drove the camper again Grin. Need to roll the carpet and move some furniture before Friday so new blinds can be fitted. Also need to wash the woodwork on the stairs ready for decorator next week.

Girlie and Tayto well done on your decorating both your colours sound lovely

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/09/2020 20:08

Bloody covid. Will have to see if can change hotel for next week now can't go to wedding.

ememem84 · 22/09/2020 20:14

Apparently face masks might become mandatory here soon. Sigh. I know you guys are doing this already but sigh.

Work. Assistant not in again. Sigh. So I’ve had to do his tasks as well as mine.

Spends £28 balloons for ds’ birthday (pick up tomorrow lunch) £11 tesco on cake baking things.

Have made a chocolate sponge. And will decorate tomorrow. Birthday is on Thursday. We have time.

mrs take care of yourself xxx and so much love for you nurses. A tough job. And not one I could do. So much admiration for yous guys.

SnugglySnerd · 22/09/2020 20:15

Happy birthday Sea's ds, I hope he enjoys his books, I was a fan of those and have just bought thr first one for dd.

Well done Mrs, I hope you are ok it can be a real shock when something like that happens.

Been watching Boris. I'm starting to worry that we might not be able to see my mum at Christmas. She is in our support bubble but there is far less than 2 weeks between end of term and xmas day and I'll worry we might be infectious without knowing. Can't bear to think of her spending Christmas on her own though.

GWS wolf.

£638 survey, £550 decorators bloody expensive this moving house

Happierwithouthim · 23/09/2020 09:13

life that's an awful pity, can your brother still get married? Are ye redecorating for selling?

I priced a childminder yesterday for 45 mins 4 mornings a week, and told ds, it's there or breakfast club, think he's decided that it's better to continue with what he knows. I'd a meltdown yesterday with him and later on I cried about how hard it is to get up so early and have him not do what is needed for me to get to work on time and that I was in trouble with my boss for being late(I'm not btw) and he was the perfect child this morning Shock

I can see a repeat of the cycle of abuse with his father, push me to the limit and tears one day and then be sweet and pleasant the next. He's 6 FFS I need to get this sorted.

€19.15 on pure crap other than kindling which was €2.50, I dumped ds's hot chocolate out onto the ground after 15 mins of him refusing to put on his seatbelt, not frugal but I was exasperated and he needed to feel consequence of his actions.

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/09/2020 10:14

They can still get married but only 15 there. Yes to sell. Photos Tuesday.

You can sort this. 6 is still young.

Rain rain rain here

Happierwithouthim · 23/09/2020 10:59

Rain rain rain here too.

Mon I put fire in stove in kitchen and in sitting room open fire too, when going to bed I frugally transferred the remains of sitting room fire to stove, lovely cosy kitchen yesterday morning. Last night I just put on stove. Neither have back boiler so I put heating on last night too. Tonight I'll put fire in both again, stove only needs about six pieces of coal and a piece of timber to do use from 6-10pm.

I've a wash on, so I might just use dryer for it rather than leave it sit around until Friday. Just the lighter things. Ds isn't wetting the bed much so that's really reduced my washing!

SonjaMorgan · 23/09/2020 11:11

Hello. Can I join you all? I use to post on mse but found it wasn't very friendly.

I need to get back on track with saving and my diet. I have been getting the house winter ready, washing curtains and pinning fleeces to the backs (although lined they were cheap and are flimsy) has been todays job.

Do you all have saving goals?

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/09/2020 11:22

Hi Sonja. We are all here for different reasons. Some want to save, some have tight monthly incomes, some of us have worked through difficulties and are better off but like the company. All v friendly though.

I had the heating on at the weekend.

Happierwithouthim · 23/09/2020 11:44

sonja very welcome
Some have savings goals, some wish to reduce debt etc as lifelong says, some have been through both.

I'm a single mother of two dc, renting currently and waiting on a house purchase to go through so currently saving and sitting on the proceeds of family home. I use ynab, it counts no of days of money in your account, mine always stood at 6-10 prior to selling house now I'm at 120+. It's a cash envelope type system in an app. Some people use excel, some people a notebook, tracking is important I think to see where your money is going and to plan for future expenses.

ChristmasSeacow · 23/09/2020 11:52

No heating yet here but I think that will change from tomorrow. It was 25C here yesterday - chillier at night but the house as still been warm front he day time.

You probably didn’t feel lucky over the last few weeks Love with all the uncertainty but it Seems it did work out as well as it could have done in the end! Must be funny to get married and then go straight back to work, like nothing much happened!

Welcome Sonja. I started on here when I took a career break to look after DS (diagnosed with ASD at 3) and our income dropped loads as I was the main earner. I am an intermittent high earner but now on short term contracts, so it’s feast or famine. Trying to kick some bad spending habits and be less wasteful day-to-day. Also saving for some big building work, hopefully next year.

Happier you’ve got time. Consistency of response from you will get there in the end Flowers. I like the sound of your real fires /stoves - just radiators here!

I’m off to pick my new expensive reading glasses up shortly. Exciting! It’s next to our small
M&S food hall and I need to pop in for a ready meal for DH for tonight as I’m not cooking (school governor meeting). I expect some walnut whips will Accidentally fall into my basket 😋

I’ve a huge amazon basket waiting thanks to the ‘nice Christmas books’ thread which I browsed while watching bake off last night. Need to prune before pressing the trigger. I’m a sucker for a christmas book though.

Love that Bake Off is back, though not really loving Matt and Noel (I’ve never liked Noel but did like Sandi). These are important issue for our times Grin

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/09/2020 12:31

I haven't watched it yet. Not sure about Matt. Will catch up tonight

ememem84 · 23/09/2020 13:40

New colleague.

Safely into a frugal September saving as we go...
Happierwithouthim · 23/09/2020 14:03

Quiet fella em? Wink
seacow that's the approach I've been hoping will work and that consistency and comfort in his surroundings at home and routine will help. I guess the still living in rented house doesn't help either as he knows it's temporary. They miss having digital tv and internet and those kind of comforts too

Wolfcub · 23/09/2020 14:35

Excellent balloon Em

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 23/09/2020 17:06

Welcome Sonja.

Happier honestly your ds sounds to me like most kids, they all push you to your limits and then reign it in when they realise mum's about to lose it! I wouldn't compare him to your ex, what's normal for 6yo is not normal in a grown man! My dd has had me in tears many many times with her behaviour or just being very unkind, sometimes I think they need to see we're only human as well.

I'm still spending a lot of money sorting the living room out. I've bought a bookcase on a fb buy and sell page for £30 which I'm very pleased with. I've bought furniture paint and supplies for around £40 and a few other bits in b&q for another £30 (it adds up in that shop very quickly!) I reckon in total including the new flooring it will have cost near on £1500 to revamp the room.

anorangeaday · 23/09/2020 17:14

Hi everyone, I had a really busy night last night so didn’t have chance to post. I lesson plan on Tuesdays so was sorting that out, plus have finished all Christmas present planning. DC did their lists last night and I have been sorting it all out, presents work differently in my family. So instead of giving grandparents/family a list of what kids like, they just tell me their budget and then I will work out everything for everyone and send them the present(s) they should buy. It’s worked well and means no double gifts. I will start buying on payday. It’s rainy and grey here, much more autumnal but still warm. How is everyone feeling about Boris’ announcement?. I’m so worried for a 2nd National lockdown, barely anything has changed her in regional. 6 months today since lockdown was announced, it feels like no time has passed but also feels like it’s always been like this. I’m feeling a bit down in the dumps, I really am getting fed up now. I know there’s not much I can do and I can’t magically cure it but I just want life to be back to normal again. I feel so sorry for the DC not being able to hug their friends, or have friends over. We’ve been to the woods after school and collected some more conkers for my autumn display.

sea I’m sorry I missed your sons birthday, happy birthday for yesterday to him!🎉

happier because they’re in nursery 8-4.45 every day I feel bad so weekends I like to pack full of activities. But now the weathers getting cold I think our activities will be pj movie days.

That’s so scary mrs, bless you. His family were very lucky to have you there. You’re brilliant with all you do for your family and those around you. Lots of love to you❤️

wolf I hope you feel a bit better soon, colds are just awful.

happier you’ve got time, 6 is still young and he can definitely change 💐

sonja hi welcome, I don’t have much money leftover after bills, so my only saving goals is to put some aside into the DC’s trust funds.

em great balloon!

£3 Tesco meal deal lunch £5 pack of pants

AdoraBell · 23/09/2020 17:27

£46 on a shop for GU. Just left her at Uni.

Wolfcub · 23/09/2020 19:06

Happier I totally get why you're concerned, sounds like you're intervention was effective. Just a pm away if you need to chat

Welcome Sonja

Still feeling rotten. Weather has turned grim here too, and cold. May have to cave and put the heating on but will try a blanket and hot water bottle first

Life you're going great guns sorting the house ready for sale

Orange I'm impressed with your organisation and planning

Unescorted · 23/09/2020 19:07

Evening - sorry I have been MIA.

Love sorry I missed the wedding. I hope it was lovely.

Sea OMG! that is a work of cake art. Def get onto GBBO.

For those asking - dd is being delivered on 4th. She is so ready to go and is spending her time in books and up to her elbows in paint & down to stubs with pencils. I am going to have the best fridge gallery Grin She is indulging me and letting me stick up her bin fodder.

Sonja welcome - on balance we do friendly before frugal. I joined to keep me sane while I paid off a frightening amount of debt. I have done that now... but keep posting because it is a lovely place with lovely people.
