Ordered three internal doors and fittings. Ouch! The ones I have aren't worth painting though, the people who renovated this house before we bought it bought the cheapest possible doors and never sealed the knots so over the years the knots have come through the paint and look a mess and ds has stuff stuck to his door that are going to damage the surface when removed. If I'm going to pay a decorator to paint the doors there is no point starting with shit as a canvas.

Did more glossing.

Went for a nice walk.

Have gin!

NSD

Tomorrow I need to buy antihistamines.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 09/08/2020 19:08

Thanks lonely and wolf.
lonely I would need a step to reach the top of the fridge, I'm only 5 foot 1ish!
Sorry should have said that I can only get a hotpoint or indesit one and the link they have sent to see the options are all fridge freezers.
I don't want the same model as it curves at the sides, so I lose space.
I will have another look and see. Will call them tomorrow to see if a tall fridge would be an option, I mean I don't see why it wouldn't.

AdoraBell · 09/08/2020 19:35

I inadvertently made a start on Christmas shopping in March. I had to order something for DH for our anniversary and added some bath/shower stuff to avoid paying postage. Then I splurged on a silk scarf in the sale, when it arrived it wasn’t really “me” so I put that away for DD1 so I got another reduced silk scarf for DD1.

It’s their birthday this month though, no idea yet what to buy for them.

em glad DD slept better and hope you feel better soon.

We have 1 fridge freezer and a smaller fridge.

Oops on the extra wine, I nearly had just 2 bottles of expensive Champagne a couple of years ago as I’d just added anything expensive in the basket to secure a slot 3 weeks in advance 🤦‍♀️

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/08/2020 19:36

I have a kitchen step to reach the top of things.
There was a bit of wind lonely but it's dropped now.
£159 fees and shop for sauce
£40 fuel to get here

ememem84 · 09/08/2020 21:45

Had another nap. Dh woke me up for dinner.

Ds was an absolute brat. We made popcorn. Dd has the big bowl. I put some in a small bowl for ds (his own special bowl). He didn’t want it. Swapped woth Dd so ds has the big bowl. He didn’t want it.

He threw the big bowl on the floor. Broke the bowl and spilled popcorn every god damm where. Then cried because he didn’t have popcorn.

Ffs.

Managed three loads of washing today. It’s folded in baskets and just needs putting away. And also spent an hour pre bed brushing catface. Sometimes like today she’s in the mood for a brushing. So much fur came out. I could literally knit a new cat. I won’t because gross and I’m not very good at knitting. But so much fur. She’s a short hair too so it was waaaaay overdue. She’s snuggled in the duvet with me now. Like a fuzzy hot water bottle. She’s trying to sleep on my head.

I’ve had hot apple juice sudafed have a snore nose strip thing on and am going to sleep.

howlathebees · 09/08/2020 22:04

Hi I’m not sure if you remember me! It’s howl with a name change :). I went away due to morning sickness but am now 14 weeks pregnant and feeling much better (lots of other big changes happened in the few weeks I was away like new car and new job etc so extended my time away) just wondered if you’d have me back?

maddenlightfoot · 09/08/2020 22:22

We only have an under counter fridge and tiny freezer that has to live in the utility room. I often have big plans to batch cook and then remember there's no room in the freezer because it's filled with fishfingers, ice cream and ice for keeping my gin cool!

We've been in Somerset today visiting family and having a stroll around Montacute House gardens (big Elizabethan National Trust house that's been used as a film set for lots of period films and dramas).

It's been a NSD but have ordered a new carpet for the stairs which will be £££. It's long overdue though - we had our loft converted 4 years ago and it's been bare wood since then! We're starting to do a few things around the house which have been neglected whilst running around after young children (actually, not neglected - more like broken/drawn on/puked on by said small children!!)

SnugglySnerd · 09/08/2020 22:28

Welcome back Howl, pleased to hear you are feeling better.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 09/08/2020 22:57

Welcome back howl.
madden, how do you survive with so little cold storage?
Here it is just me and two dcs (the other two do not live at home anymore) and I need a bigger fridge. See I'm thinking if I have more fridge space, I would cook more from scratch, have more of a variety of fruit and veg and get a decent filtered jug.

ChristmasSeacow · 10/08/2020 00:40

We have a big American-style fridge freezer (with ice dispenser) in the kitchen and my old full height fridge-freezer in the garage. The American style one is not huge but handy for keeping freezer food (peas, chips, ice cream etc) in but I put batch cooked stuff in the back, and am always short of freezer space. I’d be better off buying a full height freezer For the garage really.

Welcome back Howl.

I’m going to start Christmas shopping soon. No idea what to get the dcs though as ds has a birthday before then, which will use up my ideas! Nor, in fact, have I any idea what to get anyone else. I find the need to think of gifts for so many people quite exhausting. None of us like novelty gifts or stuff for the sake of it so it takes proper thought and time. Argh!

Took DC to the beach today. About £20 in parking and ice creams, plus £10 for new buckets and spades as ours were both cracked and leaking. They had an amazing time - it was a decent beach, busy but not crowded, and when the tide went out there were fabulous rock pools! They spent hours climbing around those. HOWEVER, I am the idiot who has managed to get sunburnt. I hate the sun so do t usually stay out enough to burn but the overcast Sky was very deceptive. I put it on but a bit too late. At least the dc were creamed and wearing rash vests so they’re fine!

Also about £30 yesterday on amazon for stuff house doesn’t have (oven gloves? Wooden spoons?) and stuff I forgot to pack
(Tea towels, some sistema for picnics).

Just done the last bit of essential work... so let the holiday begin! Oh bugger, just as the nice weather breaks too...

ememem84 · 10/08/2020 07:12

Text the boss. I’m not “going in” today aka logging on. Dd still has a cold I feel awful and didn’t sleep much. We’re going to my parents today - whether I should or shouldn’t is another matter - but they’ve offered help looking after the kids so I can rest up.

Unescorted · 10/08/2020 08:23

Welcome back Howl

We have an under the counter fridge in the kitchen - just for milk, jam, mustards and keeping the open bottle of wine cool. A full height F/F and a full height freezer in the utility room. The freezers are becoming increasingly full of random things... left over lunches that I would normally have been clearing out on a daily basis.

sea that is an awesome way to un forget things. Why had I never thought of ordering from Amazon instead of spending most of the holiday either looking for said item or cursing the lack of it.

I am getting increasing nervous about the A level results. I need to research what DD's school's results for past years. I think they have had some A* in each of the previous years. Fingers crossed b/c DD so wants a clean sweep. A couple of months ago ...just eh 3x A would have suited her.

ememem84 · 10/08/2020 11:03

I’m at the drs. I am wearing my face mask. I hate it. Hate every bit of it.

I still feel awful but this is not why I’m here. She wanted to see me to talk about my meds. So here I am.

Ddad is annoyed that I have an appointment for my cold when Dm wouldn’t be given one. Have told him a few times now that my apt was booked before I got sick. And that I’m not cancelling.

Cancelled everything else - accupuncture even though I needed the appointment - but the therapist would have made me lie face down and done needling at the base of my skull. Which would have released sinuses and made me more stuffed up. No thank you!!!

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 10/08/2020 12:55

Sea I would love one of those American fridge freezers, but my kitchen is small so would never fit.
I also like your tip on getting things from amazon! That would save loads of time!
Unescorted will keep everything crossed for your dd and all the other dcs who will be getting their results 🤞
Oh em, hope you feel better soon.

ememem84 · 10/08/2020 13:24

Lowering the dose of my meds. Hoorah. Aim to come off them by this time next year.

Still feel rotten but nothing dr can do as only a cold.

Working from bed tomorrow.

Unescorted · 10/08/2020 13:53

That is good news em - especially as you sound really pleased by the news.

ememem84 · 10/08/2020 14:58

Dparents have taken the kiddos out. I’m in bed in my old room with a cup of tea.

Dr cost me £46. Oof. Plus another £6 at the pharmacy.

howlathebees · 10/08/2020 17:15

Thank you for my welcomes back, will catch up with you all later :)

We are taking Dd2 to Cardiff in an hour she has a work meal to attend, Dh and l are going to Costco and Tesco and we may have a bite to eat down the bay if we have time Grin
Go Me lol

ChristmasSeacow · 10/08/2020 18:42

Ha ha, amazon prime on holiday is the best! Except when they delivered my knitting needles (essential to holiday knitting but forgotten) to a holiday house neighbour a couple of years ago and they were never in so I had to leave Yorkshire without them! On that occasion Lonely directed me to a Hobbycraft en route to Scotland and Dh made a very reluctant detour Grin. Knitting saved!

I now have tea towels (did bring a couple but needed to put them over the fabric seats of the DC’s dining chairs to protect them Wink), wooden spoons, a Pyrex bowl (literally nothing here microwave proof!), an oven glove and small cutlery for DD. Today I have splurged further - a couple of weeks ago I bought a low folding beach chair. Tested it out yesterday and it was AMAZING! Totally transformed the beach experience and helped my back too - best £15 spent in a good while. DH was very Envy so I’ve ordered one each for him and DM too (she’s joining us from Tomorrow). That should guarantee that beach weather is well and truly over Wink.

Today we ventured out very locally to a small ruined castle - not especially exciting but we knew it was going to thunder etc. And it did - the heavens opened and we got soaked! We were prepared for it with waterproofs but it sadly curtailed my opportunistic bramble picking by the ruin (hooray for always having nappy bags in pockets). We spent the afternoon chilling out in the holiday place. I napped a bit as the adrenalin which has been keeping me going is ebbing away and I am knackered! DH tried to relax but ended up entertaining the children as DD is quite hard work, she wants attention all the time. Roll on the arrival of Granny tomorrow! Grin

We had a lovely dinner of lemon and thyme roast chicken thighs with proper crispy skin, parmentier potatoes and salad. And Fab lollies for pudding (I had to skip that - diet - but the DC were super impressed with their first one ever!)

Tonight - knitting. Telly. And possibly gin.

ememem84 · 10/08/2020 19:05

mrs I love the mugs!!!

Home and my new spice rack has arrived (sad).

Ds and Dd fell asleep in the car on the way home but both enjoyed a bath and are now in bed. Fingers crossed.

I’m having a cucumber tonic and lots of ice. The good news is that my sore throat seems to have passed. Bad news is that I am a snot bucket. This is obviously a cold. It’s day two and another territory. So glad I’m wfh this week. No one needs to see me like this. May wfh outside tomorrow. Fresh air and all that.

Ham and cheese tortolini for dinner.

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/08/2020 19:13

££££ spent in Keswick home now £62 Sainsbury's on fresh stuff and frivolous stuff. So of the pack up stuff is reduced. Got 2 lilac metal bottles and a blue work lunch bag for less than £10
