Thanks all. DD seems reasonably perky today, no sign of further vomiting. Washing machine is on its second load, and I need to find out whether I can wash the cover of the ikea chair in her room too. I did sleep fine, but not for anywhere near long enough as DS was up v early. It’s going to be a long day!

North how do you do the actual quilting of your quilts? I’m quite confident about doing the patchwork piecing but have no idea where to start on the quilting of a big quilt with a normal sewing machine. I know some people have long arm quilting machines but most people don’t, so how do they do it? I want to make DS a quilt for Christmas as I have lots of gorgeous Roald Dahl fabric (the Quentin Blake illustrations) and he is massively enjoying the books at the moment. I’m going to have a crack at it but I’m a bit worried about the final construction part!

Just wading through work emails... ug.

Bornlazy · 24/08/2020 11:35

Glad dd is ok Sea. Ds2 was a very deep sleeper and sometimes used to vomit in the bed and just go back to sleep in it when he was a wee boy. One time when we were at our caravan ds1 woke up covered in vomit, and it was only when I started to clean up the mess I realised that it was not his vomit but was in fact ds2's 🤢

I have been considering taking up crocheting. I have never crafted before so not really sure where to start, but I was very good at making loomband bracelets ( the really quite intricate ones) so I'm thinking it might be a little similar.

Clearing out the cupboard of doom in the dining room today that dh uses as his office. Really wish I hadn't started it, although I did find ds1's national insurance number which I had hunted high and low for the other week. We'd had to cancel hiring a dual controlled car for dh to take him out in as we couldn't find it, so now we can rebook.

Take care Girlie that's a stressful situation Flowers

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/08/2020 16:46

Hi all, well I'm off work this week with stress, hoping dd might be slightly better next week and I can go back but not holding my breath

Spent £40 on Amazon this morning on a few things including £17 on a book about eating disorders. Spent another £20 at a garden centre this afternoon on winter pansies and other back to school stationary for dd.

Also spent £10 at the reuse shop on stuff for the garden, got some nice brick edging for one of my boarders which I was pleased with.

Ystd was also really spendy, school shoes £52 😵 school trousers £12.99, £20 to dd to get some stuff with (she went off on her own with a friend) £10 on Subway lunch.

£8 in Boots on shampoo and conditioner x4.

£22 in the co-op on food (trying to encourage dd to eat, am meant to offer food even if she doesn't eat it.)

Payday is the end of this week thank God.

SingToTheSky · 24/08/2020 16:55

((( girlie ))) Thanks

Lovemaltesers · 24/08/2020 18:02

Big hugs girlie

Wolfcub · 24/08/2020 18:07

Ah Girlie that's so tough I'm not surprised you are off, do take time to care for you too. And we are all here as needed. Does dd know why you are off or does she think you are in leave?

Glad to hear DD is ok sea. Before lockdown I had to pick up DD2 from school as she was sick. 15 minutes after we got home she was hungry and demanding pizza. I felt such a fraud taking time off work.

Just under 4 weeks now sea. Currently trying to work out how to get a good walking down the aisle photo with my dad staged, whilst not actually being allowed to walk down the aisle 😂 In 20 years time, I’ll probably forget he didn’t do it as the photo will show that he did! I’m sure the photographer will work out the best way.

Lovemaltesers · 24/08/2020 18:14

We have to walk down the aisle separately, so I still have to do that bit!

SnugglySnerd · 24/08/2020 18:29

Girlie Flowers

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/08/2020 19:46

Just catching up. £163 at the horse shop ffs. £5 co-op,

Hope DD is better today sea.
Defo better to be signed off girlie

ememem84 · 24/08/2020 20:12

love if you can, get you and dad arms linked and standing mid aisle. And get the two of you to turn and look behind you. Almost like a “final moment of “spinsterhood”” picture.

We had a spendy one today:

£239 on a shark stick hoover. We have a dyson upright one but it’s huge. So will sell that on fb.

£159 garden centre. Holly tree, two hydrangeas, two exhinacea plants and another plant that dh wanted.

£41 lunch at pub - rose, local ale, steak sandwich and chippies (me) and a pichadinho for dh (portuguese beef stew which came with rice, chips, fried polenta and salad - he only wanted a light lunch....!!)

£28 M&S - milk, butter, naan, birthday cake and flowers for Dm as she had the kids while we perused the garden centre and had lunch a deux.

Just had my Ikea stuff delivered. Yay. And went to dsis place and took her garden storage box which she no longer wants.

Unescorted · 24/08/2020 20:30

girlie big hugs.

Bornlazy · 24/08/2020 21:27

I hadn't realised you'd not be allowed to walk with your dad Love. Sometimes I forget that everything is still so different.

Girlie that's good you're signed off. You've got enough to deal with at the moment. Hope the book has some useful information and coping strategies.

AdoraBell · 24/08/2020 22:38

£24 in Sainsbury’s, bits for Uni plus a few bits I forgot to order. Groceries due tomorrow, £83-ish.
£65 on Boots website, perfume for DD1, birthday this week. I’ve already ordered a few other bits for her, spending £150 in total.
DH spent £160 on DD2’s present today.
I need to get birthday cards tomorrow.

ChristmasSeacow · 25/08/2020 00:13

Love I reckon this is your chance to get a picture of you propping your DF up (or vice versa). Like the pictures of the tourists holding up the leaning tower of Pisa Grin.

DD is cheerful today and no more puking but is definitely a bit snotty. I’m a little worried that she has a temperature as she’s feeling a bit warm to the touch - and if she does I guess we all have to self-isolate for two weeks. Bloody thermometer (new at the start of lockdown!) isn’t working so I’ve ordered another one (the no-contact type so no more hysterics about sticking it in ears) and I shall send the other back to amazon.

If we do isolate she’ll miss some of the nursery settling and DS will miss the start of school. That’s going to be painful. Especially as we’ll have to do this every time anyone gets a bit of a cold, which is all it is, I am sure Confused.

£12 on a Christmas present for mum’s stocking. No other spends though I will book an Ocado slot for the weekend in case we are stuck at home.

My friend’s scarf was dry today so I’ve wrapped it in tissue paper and got it ready to post. Pic attached. It’s lovely and soft too - a merino and cashmere mix. I also made her a couple of masks out of this fabric. It had to be done, she and I are both very booby. DH said he won’t go out with me in mine Grin

The scarf is absolutely beautiful Sea

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/08/2020 06:52

The scarf is amazing, well done. Love the boob fabric.
Maybe the snot made her sick. Hope sleep was got tonight.
Do you have to isolate with any CV symptoms even if they are with others? I should know this really

Nsd planned today. Need tomato soup for Thursday though

SnugglySnerd · 25/08/2020 07:35

Beautiful scarf Sea. Can you get a cv test fro dd so you don't all have to isolate for 2 weeks (assuming it is negative). Dh and I are both wondering how our jobs will work when we both have to keep isolating with 3 kids who have picked up colds at school/nursery.

ememem84 · 25/08/2020 07:40

Gorgeous scarf!

We apparently per our gov guidelines have so isolate if we show any cold or flu symptoms. Nursery are taking a practical approach and are temp checking and if temps spike to over 38.5 three times during the day for no reason.

Bornlazy · 25/08/2020 07:47

Sea that scarf is beautiful she's going to love it. I had to look twice at the boobie one as I looked at the pic before reading and was thinking -oh my that looks like boobs 😆

Can you not get dd tested? I've no idea about kids but I'd have thought the nose one would be easier than in adults as they've got such small noses.

Life household has to isolate for 14 days from start of suspects symptoms. They are going to have to develop a more readily available quick turn around test before the winter or the whole country will grind to a standstill (again) Since the schools went back, in Scotland, there's been such an increase in test requests that people were being offered tests 200 miles away.

Spends yesterday £38 on household bits.
£26 on dinner out in local pub where ds2 ruined it by harping on about wanting a dog 🙄
Hoping for lsd today. Need bread think that's it. Payday on Thursday 🎉

Bornlazy · 25/08/2020 07:52

em why 38.5? Is the government guidelines not 37.8? I'd be a bit wary of needing 3 spikes before they take any action.

ememem84 · 25/08/2020 09:22

born I think our gov have different guidance. I know I read it somewhere but can’t see where now. The guidance from our gov re me being in the office states if you have cold symptoms to stay home. So come winter it’s going to be a nightmare.

For what it’s worth though I wouldn’t send the kids in if they had temps of over 38.

Nursery do temp taking as standard now at drop off lunchtime and mid afternoon.

Taytocrisps · 25/08/2020 09:29

Good morning everyone.

I had a nice weekend in Sligo (west coast of Ireland). We did a few beach walks although it wasn't really swimming weather. We visited the church at Drumcliffe and stopped to pay our respects at W.B. Yeats's grave. We also climbed Knocknarea Hill to the Cairn of Queen Maeve and then relaxed in a seaweed bath afterwards. I've decided it's a very underrated county - I'll definitely be back. I'd like to have visited Lissadell House but it's currently closed due to the Corona Virus. Oh well, a reason to return, eh? Our hotel was cheap but comfortable and the staff were lovely. That's the last of my trips in 2020 - wonder what 2021 will bring?

Yesterday was a spendy day:-

€4 quiche in M&S
€5.58 shower cream in Boots x 2
€105.40 for school books in Easons - that's just four books! I still have to go back to pick up 'Othello' and 'Room' 'cos they didn't have them in stock. The remaining books are covered by the book rental scheme.

I'm off today because the boiler guy is coming to service my boiler. We got back late on Sunday night so I still have to unpack and put on a washload and give the house a quick once over.

I'll come back later for a proper catch up. Have a good day.

Bornlazy · 25/08/2020 09:31

It is going to be a nightmare. I'm totally dreading it. I think your plan sounds sensible.

ememem84 · 25/08/2020 09:37

Right. I’m going into the garage. If I’m not back here later send help as I’ve been swallowed up by the clutter. This is what I’m dealing with today.
