Wahoooo email from nursery - they’re going back on the 9th!!!!! Wooooooooooo!!!! May have done a little screechy dance with dh.

Spent the afternoon in dparents garden with the dc. Paddle pool tent and garden toys. Nice.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/06/2020 18:58

2 more no spend days.
Sadly though, no win of any size on the national savings yet again this month.

LaneBoy · 02/06/2020 19:05

Excellent news em yay!

Well done meadow 💕😀

Glad you’ve joined us howl this is a lovely bunch of MNers here!

Massive Tesco delivery today. Not managing to get many slots so when I do I confess I’m ordering right up to the item limit (now 85) to make sure we have things like tinned fruit/veg. We were good last night though and did a full kitchen inventory first.

I cleared out Cagletini’s clothes today and we don’t really need to buy anything in the new size other than shoes (soonish) and jammies - would normally get the latter from asda but they don’t seem to have any with long sleeves. Will check Boots now as I do love their stuff, that’s about my limit price wise though. I miss the days we got staff discount! The older two lived in Boots clothes until they turned 6 🤣

Oops! Wrong name there, have reported myself. Sorry!

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/06/2020 20:29

Hhm what are your thought on restocking the covid lockdown stash. Thinking if the is a second wave of lock down. ? Hmm not sure whether to or not

Wolfcub · 02/06/2020 20:32

Life I think it's wise to keep a stash. The way this year is going we will have another lockdown and then the worst winter since the 70s.

SnugglySnerd · 02/06/2020 20:34

Not sure either Life. In hindsight feel like the supermarkets would have been fine if people hadn't stocked up back in March so it should be fine not to unless lots of other people do and stuff is running low again. If that makes sense?? I do think the long supermarket queues mean people are still limiting supermarket trips though. I am definitely trying to do one massive shop every 7-10 days instead of little top up shops during the week.

Mrsmadevans · 02/06/2020 20:35

Hand wash & gel being amongthem Hmm
I do hope we don't get a second wave
l know everyone must be feeling the same it's a worry Sad

Wolfcub · 02/06/2020 20:46

Snuggly I think there's a difference between panic buying, which we saw in March and stocking up sensibly over a period of weeks to prepare by adding a couple of extra things to a shop. I don't support panic buying, it drives me nuts in winter, first snow here and no bread in Tesco for a week .

I do support sensible preparations, like the brexit storecupboard plan (I'm still eating mine), adding 2-3 items to your weekly shop but only items you'd eat or use anyway, which enabled us to survive the first three weeks of lockdown without shopping.

Wolfcub · 02/06/2020 20:47

Life happy birthday to your dh, I've ordered a caterpillar cake this week too I love that it's the adult cake of choice Grin

ememem84 · 02/06/2020 21:23

Is it even a birthday if you don’t get a caterpillar cake?

Bornlazy · 02/06/2020 21:29

I am trying to maintain a stock of basic things as I’m not convinced we’re out the woods yet. I wish I knew what the next big thing we’re all going to need is 🤔 I was definitely ahead of the game with the toilet roll but got caught out with the hand gel. I had wondered if hand creams would sell out due to all the excess washing but that doesn’t seem to have happened.

Mrs you work so hard no wonder you fell asleep 😴

Mrsmadevans · 02/06/2020 21:55

Ahh thank you Born that's so kind of you to say that Smile
I think next trip to Aldi & Lidl l will be getting a few more things. It seems the wisest thing to do. Like Wolf our Brexit stash did help us out in the first few weeks especially flour , pasta, rice, sugar, tins of tuna, corned beef, corn, toms, beans, peas, carrots, ratatouie , red kidney beans & soup.

howlatthetrees · 02/06/2020 22:14

Thank you again for the congratulations!

em that’s great news about the nursery, DS1’s nursery isn’t properly open yet, I really wish it was because he’s missing his friends so badly.

Thank you for telling me about it lane!

life I think a stash is a good idea, if people add a couple more things to their shopping then hopefully it will prevent the mass buying there was last time.

You sound very busy mrs

wolf the best thing about birthdays is the caterpillar cake!

I spent £5 on drinks from the shop for our picnic today, I forgot to bring some from home and everyone was very thirsty. We also finished building a tiki bar in our garden tonight, only for it to rain for the foreseeable, oh wellGrin

northender · 02/06/2020 23:35

Welcome howl
Happy birthday life's dh.
Mrs you are v busy, well done.
Em great nursery news
I didn't have Brexit stash, but am going to build up a bit of one now I think.
No spends today. Good day at work. More progress with my quilt. Dh has got fence posts and panels painted & dried before the rain is forecast to arrive overnight.

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/06/2020 23:35

We get caterpillar cake again on Saturday too.

I'm going to rebuild my stash as it did help massively. This was done over s number of months before Brexit and then lock down. No panic buying here.

I've made a list of what went well and what didn't stash wise.

Can't sleep. Chinese giving me a poorly tum and works a bit stressful.

ChristmasSeacow · 03/06/2020 00:21

Caterpillar cake for my birthday. It’s the rule! I favour Colin - the original and still the best.

Welcome and congrats Howl - and what’s a tiki bar?

I had a Brexit stash. Mostly tinned tomatoes and pasta so I could keep ds fed! However, my usual food hoarding tendencies and overflowing cupboards stood me in good stead, especially my (entirely customary) huge baking stash I didn’t look too closely for weevils . Even so I’d have run out of flour without help from NDN who works next to a flour mill. I’m going to keep a bit more stock of pasta, baking stuff and tinned tomatoes as we go through LOADS. There’s still covid but also still Brexit, and Boris is not a man who sweats the details, so...

I’ve not really kept up with the thread too well, work, kids etc. DD went back to nursery yesterday - was a bit rocky as she couldn’t take her comforter and she is WAY attached. She’s only in on Mondays and Fridays though. And after much negotiation with the school DS goes back tomorrow. He won’t be with his own Y2 group and may struggle to adjust to the new normal so I’m not expecting a smooth few days, but it will defo do him good after the initial pain. 🤞🏻

Spends - more than normal as I’ve bought a few bigger clothes for DD, sandals for both DC, some new school bits too. and yarn . I’ve been knitting a present for DD’s upcoming birthday, a little stuffed rabbit with a few different dresses, and I’m ever so pleased with it. I hope it doesn’t just get chucked on the pile of toys and ignored if it does I will play with it and change its outfits . Need to buy her a trike and some wrapping paper and party bits but that’s all. Maybe some books too. And make a pointlessly elaborate cake.

howlatthetrees · 03/06/2020 00:51

Thank you sea, I’ve attached a pic of our tiki bar. I won’t be able to have any cocktails unfortunately, but we’re going to make some mocktails so the DC can join in tooSmile. I hope school goes well for your DS tomorrow🤞🏻

Wolfcub · 03/06/2020 06:39

Life hope you're feeling a bit better now and that you eventually got some sleep. I've been up since about 1.45 as ds was up playing Lego, not quietly I had a tough day with him yesterday and he will be worse today as he will be tired.

Sea good luck with the return to school, hopefully the re-entry challenges will be short lived. Bunny sounds lovely, I hope you're posting a pic when she's done

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/06/2020 07:09

Yes I managed to get to sleep but I'm tired today.
Sorry DS is being tough. Back to school work stuff?
Nsd and the weather is horrible today so soggy stable trip later

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/06/2020 07:11

Hope DS transition back is ok sea. I'm sure the pain will be worth it.

Nice bar
