I hope your mum is ok Camden.

Taytocrisps · 03/05/2020 23:06

We had our family Zoom quiz. We started at 7 p.m. and only finished at 10.20. There were seven rounds. DD and I came 3rd out of seven teams. It took a while for everyone to connect and then it took time to read out all the questions/repeat the questions etc. We also got cut off twice. My Dad got a call from his cousin in the middle of it and we had to wait while he chatted to her Grin.

Thanks for the battery offer but I'll check in the pharmacy on Tuesday and see if they stock them. If not, I might be glad to take you up on your offer.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 04/05/2020 08:13

Thank you, Tayto. One silver lining is that his extra day off is a Monday each week, so he gets a long weekend. Puss is normally timid so it was funny to see the naughtiness coming out.

An unexpected night off tonight, they want me to attend some training sessions in the week and work a late on Sunday instead. Suits me very well, I don’t like night shifts much. Tea is brewing and bacon grilling. I always have a bacon sandwich after a night shift. DP beaming with anticipation.

Mrsmadevans · 04/05/2020 08:35

Tayto no prob 😀
Off to Mum and Bob's in a bit . Have a link for the ONS deaths by postcide finder if anyone wants to have a look at their area . I was amazed at how the numbers differ .
Hope you don't think it's in bad taste 😉.
I feel reassurance from knowing it really isn't as bad as l am imagining where l live . I have been afraid to even go in s shop 🙄

I have to limit myself from looking at the stats too much. The LA we live in and the LA we work in (about five miles away from home) has relatively small numbers. The third LA about five miles down the road has a huge number!

maddenlightfoot · 04/05/2020 11:29

Morning all! The stats by area are interesting. We're in SW which has been relatively low hit. I wonder if this will feed into the exit strategy?

I'm feeling settled and motivated by the balance of work/home-school today having decided to ease up a bit on the latter. Realise that dd is quite self-motivated so I'm letting her come to the work rather than insisting on a time frame. She'll get it all done and probably enjoy it more without me nagging her!

ememem84 · 04/05/2020 12:51

We’ve had 24 deaths here. 298 active cases at present.

Sadly dms friends husband died last week. He was early 50’s and had underlying conditions.

Antibody testing has started this weekend. And will be rolled out over the next month.

ememem84 · 04/05/2020 12:53

We’d usually be at the races today. Picnic drinks with family and friends and a bit of a flutter. Instead we’ve had a picnic at the table at home.

Declaring Nsd

ememem84 · 04/05/2020 15:45

Everyone welcome! Ds loved it. Proper lost his shit! 😂😂

£49 at garden centre just now. Fork, fish blood and bone stuff for soil and Ericaceous compost.

£18 M&S earlier this morning - picnicky things and £63 boots (pouch food and snackies for Dd hand soap and hair gel for dh who has cut his own hair. He’s going for a 90’s boy and throwback. Undercut with curtains.

SnugglySnerd · 04/05/2020 16:13

For some reason the ONS website thinks my postcode is in the Staffordhire Moors. Weirdly Deliveroo think my postcode is on a different part of Brum a few miles away from where we actually live and BBC weather thinks we live in Southampton! I wonder how to get that sorted out?!

Wolfcub · 04/05/2020 16:44

I wish ds would self motivate for school work. I am so sick of refuse, carry on,anger, excuses and then upset when he has consequences for not doing anything. I haven't got time to sit over him and he's driving me nuts

StraightOuttaCamden · 04/05/2020 17:53

Thanks everyone for the messages earlier on, they've made me feel much better about a crappy situation.

Mrs - the statistics are really interesting, thanks for posting the link, we have had 2 deaths in my town, one of which I know the family, I'm surprised as I thought it would be more.

Wolf - I am 100% with you on the school work issue, ds2 is 17 so should be able to prioritise and get some work done but today I've had an email from his tutor and he's basically done very little in the last two weeks, I'm so angry with him as I'm back at work now and like you do t have the time or energy to be on his case about it all the time.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/05/2020 18:32

I have one of those wolf. Though slightly younger. Older one does the work albeit from her bed. £2.80 potato and wraps

Wolfcub · 04/05/2020 19:25

I burned (as in full on flames totally charcoal) dinner and pudding. This is not my finest day!

Camden I wish ds's teacher would take that level of interest. They just don't seem to care. Agree with the others that tour trip was totally necessary

Beer order put in and face mask ordered, we are talking about being back in the office in early June and I will be required to travel to London. The info we have is that everyone will need to wear a face covering in public so I'm preparing now and if it's not needed great

Hi everyone quick sign in, life plods on here, not much to report really!

Have saved some money since lockdown so that's good.

Dd hit a bit of a wall last week and we decided she needed to go to my mums for a couple of nights. We both needed a break and it did everyone good to have some space. Am sure some mnetters would have a fit that I broke the rules but we (my mum and I) weighed up the risks and decided it was the right thing to do.

The CV numbers locally to us are really low so I'm praying some of the restrictions are lifted soon....

Dd has managed to download some random search engine onto my laptop which is stressing me out, waiting for my dbrother to ring and tell me how to fix it 😬 I'm so rubbish at anything computer related!

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/05/2020 20:28

My new job is predominantly London based wolf. One day.
Sometimes girlie a calculated risk is worth it.

Lovemaltesers · 04/05/2020 20:51

I’m sure all three of you felt the benefit girlie

Flour did not come in my Ocado shop Sad

I took the DC out for a walk at lunchtime as I was losing the will to work/home learn. DD1 is struggling to get to sleep and is whiny and crying at everything. DD2 didn’t want to do any work. And they bickered about tablet time all day long even though they had one each. Sadly the school work is accessed through tablets. I normally limit time on tablets as they get shouty, argumentative and refuse to do anything else. Agggghhhhh!

I was so happy when DP got home.

Unescorted · 04/05/2020 21:19

wolf that is the total opposite to us - we are being told even if restrictions are lifted we should avoid going into offices & continue to do all meetings by Teams. We are being softened up for remaining as we are until September. I think they have realised productivity has shot up, sickness reduced and travel expenses reduced to the point that we have a training budget again. And we are all happier & working as a single organisation. A state that has been a holy grail for at least 10 years.

On the school front it is only DS who has any to do. It is so hard for him when the girls are lying about doing not very much. He has started getting up before them so he can get it out of the way. I also bribe him with coffee and breakfast.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/05/2020 21:26

We've been told WFH even if things start to reopen. More updates will follow as and when but basically stay where you are.

ememem84 · 04/05/2020 22:06

I think it’ll be a while here before the whole office is back in.

There’s talk of split teams again and people doing a week on and a week off. But no idea when from.

Passenger ferries aren’t even considering running until end of the month

northender · 04/05/2020 23:05

Quick check in. Good day today. Sorted through 2 cupboards of doom, got shut of lots of stuff & organised the rest.
Worked on our very rusty chiminea with sandpaper & wire wool. It probably needs another couple of hours work before painting. Did some more sewing & tonight we played Taboo after tea (more lockdown dickery I think!). Normally at this time of year we'd hardly be doing anything together due to cricket so it's great in some ways. Back to work tomorrow.

Unescorted · 05/05/2020 06:34

Girlie Sorry I missed your post. Risk is a balance. I would have done the same in your circumstances.

My dad arrived back from Oz yesterday, fortunately he had his immigration / residency letter with him - they weren't going to let him onto the plane. Australians are prohibited from leaving Australia. He is not a well man apparently. He has shingles and is really really knackered. Hopefully he perks up with a bit of rest.

SnugglySnerd · 05/05/2020 07:35

I didn't realise anyone could fly anywhere! I hope he gets well soon Unescorted.

I cannot see how on earth it's going to work for schools going back. Social distancing in a school is impossible. Even for the staff. We have 4 toilet cubicles in the ladies, most of the staff are female (probably about 75%) and we have 20 mins at break to all go to the loo. I don't know how it'll work for kids buying lunch. A staggered timetable is the only way I can see it happening but I don't know how that would work either. Say we had 1 year group per day. I only work 3 days per week so I would miss 2 complete year groups meaning that those classes would miss my subject completely. The school timetable takes months each year to plan to organise option subjects, teachers' hours, ability groups, correct classrooms etc. I don't see how we could easily rewrite it to allow for classes of 9 or whatever. Most of our classes have 28-32 students!

Sorry I'm just writing down my thoughts. Going to get some shopping for my mum today and I'm looking forward to seeing her in the garden again. I'm worried how much we are spending on food. I did a massive shop last week thinking it would last 2 weeks. We have eaten all the fruit, most of the veg and snacks already. It lasted 6 days. The problem is a bunch of bananas is little more than one each. I might buy 2 bunches but we don't have space to store a whole week's worth. Same with other fruit. I bought 2 bags of apples and a bag of pears and I think we have 1 pear left. Today I am just buying fruit, yoghurt and probably some crumpets and things. We will have to manage from the freezer and cupboards for everything else. I can't keep buying car loads of food!
