Ha I was watching that as well em there were quite a few comments about the fact that that woman has written a book and quite a few articles so obviously does work Hmm To be financially dependent on anyone brings me out in a cold sweat but each to their own I suppose!

Unescorted · 18/01/2020 10:09

Morning lovelies.

Thanks Wolf That sounds delish. Shelf stable filled past would work too. Good work! My recipe search has led me to some amazing things - pastry with oil 2:1: scant-1 .flour: oil : scant part water. Which makes sense as there is water in butter. No egg cakes - just replace the egg with a dab of white vinegar and a table spoon of liquid for each egg in the recipe. Also the fat can be oil. Soup as a base for all sorts of things - gratins, risotto, stews. Gnocchi made with packet mash and flour.

Lane hope you make a speedy recovery.

Post Oxford admission celebrations are proving expensive - dinner out, party spending, make up, driving lessons. She has me wrapped around her little finger.

I have been abandoned by my family - boys cycling in Scotland DD in party mode. I have the dog, who is going to be let off his lead for the first time today. Hopefully his love of cheese outweighs his love of chasing sheep/ cats/ squirrels. I will try him on the long lead first just to be safe.

Please forgive me for what is probably a really stupid question. I asked to join a little while back and try to follow ( it moves very quickly) but is the point of the thread for us to record everything we spend on a daily basis on here? Or is it for frugal suggestions?

That's two questions I realise ! Thanks

Wolfcub · 18/01/2020 13:23

£6 nature reserve on parking and coffee. £14.50 lidl. I made myself put back something from the aisle of doom

Happierwithouthim · 18/01/2020 14:02

Iwonttaketheeasyroad both or one or the other or neither whatever helps you or might help someone else

Some of us use it to work out solutions that they wouldn't discuss in real life

Beautiful day here. Wore my new jods riding. Leather look and fleece lined so superbly warm and helped stick my bum to the saddle.

Mrs madevans sorry! Crazy week at work, only just spotted your question, sorry didnt answer sooner. We are Swansea way. I can,l ask a friend who would know about Cardiff for you? Let me know.....NSDStar

SnugglySnerd · 18/01/2020 14:38

Love the haircut and colour Happier. I also really like your top!

That's interesting about Sainsbury's, Sea. I always think of them as quite posh and expensive, sort of one step down from Waitrose! I have a Tesco delivery pass so use them a lot. They are a bit expensive for things hit their delivery service is really reliable and I've never had any stupid subs whereas I've had bad experiences with some of the others. I also go in Aldi most weeks. Have been there today in fact and spend £22 on a top-up shop.

Everyone is out. I have the house to myself. This is a massive treat for me so what have I been doing? Cleaning all the window frames and vacuuming. I sure know how to enjoy myself Grin

LaneBoy · 18/01/2020 14:40

Iwont either really! Use the thread how you want and need. Don’t worry if you can’t follow, it moves so quickly especially this time of year, just post when you want :)

I’ll look them up if they’re on FB happier thanks I haven’t delved info insta yet :o

Should be NSD for me unless I get sucked into amazon/eBay 😳 I think it will be the first day of 2020 I’ve not left the house.

Gohackyourself · 18/01/2020 15:12

May I join too?
Wasn’t sure if was for recording/ideas etc
I’ve a credit card on 0% to pay off before 2 years.
Not big money but annoying that I’ve not even tackled it in a year on previous 0% I must look up standing order trick.
I went to a meeting the other day through work on goal planning and a lady there struck a chord about always being in debt since her teens and it’s followed her to her early 40s , she wanted to crack that... me too, 2 divorces, 10 house moves across 20 years , Single mum to two kids working full time, dp now. I’ve had no debt , lots of debt, a viscous cycle!! I’m determined to crack all this approaching mid life Grin

For today I’m proud that this week, I haven’t cracked on getting a new mascara just coz I’m bored of the one I have, will use till the end .I also have seen 2 gorgeous tops and a pot plant for the house but decided not to crack !

Happierwithouthim · 18/01/2020 15:31

Top is M&S from a few years ago just a light knit snuggly probably nice to get that stuff done with no one under your feet & in half the time
*
Gohackyourself* welcome it's on 0% think of how long you want to clear it in & what you can afford per paycycle & set up standing order to suit

I frugally ate ds's leftover curry from thurs eve with some fresh rice& chips

Lovemaltesers · 18/01/2020 15:46

We’ve spent £368 on a laptop today. Ours needs replacing and I bought gift vouchers with 8% off to pay for it.

Things have been very stressful with my mum the last couple of days, I had to leave her house because I was so angry (but because I am so worried). She had a cold caller tradesman round yesterday, who said they needed to have moss removed from their roof. She was persuaded to pay upfront for the work then and there, for the work to be done today. £3k. Men came round and did about 4.5 hours of work up a ladder today. I am so angry!!!

Lovemaltesers · 18/01/2020 15:47

I’m worried she might become a target for other unscrupulous people too

Happierwithouthim · 18/01/2020 15:57

Oh love that's terrible

Gohackyourself · 18/01/2020 16:07

Thanks @Happierwithouthim that’s what I have done.
I also have a loan finishing in December so that payment will then transfer to that.will be finished in less time than the 0%

SnugglySnerd · 18/01/2020 16:21

It's awful how these people prey on the vulnerable Love.

Wolfcub · 18/01/2020 17:11

I haven't read back yet but I can confirm that the Mumsnet pop bottle plunger does work. It's even effective if your daft child puts 2.5 full rolls of charmin and an entire human body's worth of 💩 down the toilet and tries to flush it causing the toilet to spew water and 💩 all over your bathroom floor and remain filled to the brim. Much cheaper than dynorod. Having now deep cleaned and entire bathroom, my own arms and feet and every hard surface in the house with either bleach or antibacterial three or four times over I can also attest to the value of a well stocked brexit cleaning cupboards and Winestore. Will read back when I've calmed down and stopped wanting to throttle him.

Non frugal side a pair of perfectly good jeans and a pair of pants are now in the bin - believe me it was not worth doing that to my washing machine and a full 2 litres of branded cola unopened is now down the sink. AngryEnvyAngry(not envy)

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/01/2020 17:20

Either or both or non as you want. Post spends, ask questions, post tips, talk through spending triggers or situations you can't irl.

Gorgeous happier.

I'm not surprised about Sainsbury's tbh. Well not hugely. I find Tesco expensive on the odd occasion I go. Asda is cheap if you eat poorly imo. Not done Morrison for a while.

Wolfcub · 18/01/2020 17:36

Iwon't use the thread in whatever way works for you. It's part "over the garden fence", part tips and accountability. For me it's often the only adult conversation I have outside of work so I do a lot of the over the garden fence but

Happier your hair is gorgeous, I also want your jumper!

Unescorted have you googled weezls weblog? Weezl really got me into working out how recipes could be frugalled. I don't need to do it so much now but at one point working out how to do things as cheap and healthily as possible was a life saver

Sea Ive always found Sainsbury's the cheapest for me. Tesco's is horrendously expensive. But Ocado fits the best with my life

Lane hope you are ok Thanks

Was wonderful to see old friends this afternoon. Lots of laughing and remembering things that I had forgotten. There are some people that you love so much that it doesn't matter how kJ g you are apart

Love report to trading standards and the police. It might not help your mum but may stop it happening to someone else. In the unlikely event she paid in a credit card there may be a route to reclaim

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/01/2020 17:58

Lovely way to spend your day wolf. With friends not down the loo. Envy not envy

£7 takeaway, £138.75 shopping, Aldi, Iceland, Sainsbury's and co-op.
£25 pony, £5 footy,
All in budget though.

Defo police and trading standards love. Sorry to hear that and I would be furious too. Yy she may become a target as they might have links to others of their ilk..
Twats

Hello gohack.

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/01/2020 17:59

Oh and I finally got a nectar cc app in after I was accosted in Sainsbury's

ememem84 · 18/01/2020 18:12

Photoshoot this afternoon. Not really my thing but it was nice and hopefully we’ve got some lovely shots of the kiddos. Ds loves jumping in muddy puddles. We got loads of pics of that!!

ChristmasSeacow · 18/01/2020 19:26

What is the Mumsnet pop bottle
Plunger Wolf? That sounds like a vile experience, the things we do as parents that we’d never have imagined!

Welcome to the new people, use the thread however helps! We are a bit gossipy, but in a good way!

We have a tuff tray. I bought it when DS was small and it was great in the garden but last year we also bought a stand for it so it’s off the ground, and they play with it loads more now. I’ll have a look at that IG thing for some new ideas, thanks.

Lunch at a. Friend’s today - 3 coupes, 2 DC each. Was nice to see them but a bit stressful - DS wet himself and then later pooed himself Hmm. We do have poo issues from time to time but always near bedtime, so at home. It was okay but not ideal as my friend’s DH (their house) isn’t the warmest of guys and he was clearly not too impressed. Took 2 hours to get home from the far side of London too. Late dinner for the DC!

Wolfcub · 18/01/2020 19:29

Sea, take an empty 2 litre pop bottle. Cut off the very bottom. Keep the lid on. Insert bottle into loo so the open bottom of it is well into the opening at the bottom of the loo. Plunge!
