jam I hear you. I find it so hard when dh takes a dip. There is no one else who can take up the slack, coupled with his family assuming that it is in part my fault for not being more supportive. I wish for a tattoo smile at times.

The Big Short is amazing. I have colleagues who are ex bankers and they are so like the characters. I tease them ... kindly 😁

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 21/12/2018 19:29

We've just been caroling at our local park which was nice, I do love a Christmas Carol!

Just back and having a hot chocolate now 😊

Dd still struggling with leaky ears but is better than ystd so that's good.

I think £24 on flowers is loads sneaky I wouldn't spend that on a friend. My usual budget for my best friends is around £10, for my friend whose b day is just before Christmas I bought her an oversized super soft scarf from primark £6 and some fluffy socks £1.80!! She was really pleased with them. Marks and Spencers to delivery on a range of gifts at different budgets if easier to shop online.

Wolfcub · 21/12/2018 20:10

Nails and brows were less than expected £51 including tip
£25 for sneaky dominos with ds at lunchtime whilst we watched the hogfather, we were supposed to be nipping down to o Greggs but he was engrossed and I didn’t want to disturb him as I’d much rather he watched pratchett than some of the ridiculous American shite he likes

Jam and Unescorted do take care of you. I’ve been both patient and carer and both are bloody hard so you absolutely have to make time for yourself. Sunbathing in the Rain was an interesting book on the topic of the selfishness (necessary) if depressed people written by someone with depression.

SnugglySnerd · 21/12/2018 20:29

School's out! 2 weeks of chilling at home and eating too much chocolate. Hooray!

Well done Snuggly! You fairly slogged through that. I hope you have a great holiday. Smile

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 21/12/2018 20:45

Hi everyone.
Been very busy! We had two christmas party's at work yesterday for the children and Father Christmas visited. Then had a welcome meeting to the inclusion team and I have some reading to do over Christmas.
It was also my dps birthday yesterday and DD1 came home.
Last day of work today and two lovely weeks off!

Hope everyone is doing ok.

SnugglySnerd · 21/12/2018 20:46

Thanks Autumn. I can barely keep my eyes open. Bed time I think...

Work & study today. £40 to fill the car with petrol
Dd has finished school today & is at my parents until tomorrow. Ds finished college on Wednesday and is busy not doing much!

Spent 5-7 listening to Simon Mayo's last Drivetime programme and ended up feeling really emotional. I listened to him on the R1 breakfast show all through my teens & some turbulent times and then have listened since he started on R2. I think he is such a talented radio broadcaster and seems very humble unlike some of the massive egos that are out there (Chris Evans I'm looking at you!)

Waffle plates for the sandwich toaster arrived today & don't fit so will be sent back. Managed to order a waffle maker from Co-op which was a good price, has good reviews & is being delivered tomorrow for free.
Will catch up properly & reply to other posts tomorrow.

AutumnLeaves12 · 21/12/2018 20:49

Good idea Snuggly. Very well deserved bedtime. Smile

Quiteismerryandbright · 21/12/2018 20:57

em Showjumping is on the red button now
Commentator is rather grating though 😐
Sad about Tim Stockdale

ememem84 · 21/12/2018 21:19

jam we’ve got dusky pink grey and white in our room. I wanted a midnight blue accent wall behind the bed but dh drew the line at this. Walls are a soft grey. Curtains are light charcoal grey...bedding is white with grey sheet and two grey pillows (of 6 the rest white)/ white with grey leaf pattern and grey and pink chenille cushions (three - 2 grey and one pink) I’m after two more cushions in different texture. Maybe a courdouroy. I’ll know them when I see them.
Oh and a grey fleecy throw.

I need to do more outside. I’ve started to hibernate. Which is nice but also I’m feeling sluggish. So must get out more. Move more. Eat less. Technically I’m eating for two but I know this doesn’t mean eat double. For me (last time it meant more often but the same amount).

Today I’ve had so much. Pecan danish, bacon and egg roll, salad for lunch, fruit pot, Chinese (crispy shredded chilli beef, Singapore noodles, crackers, and salt and pepper chicken - from M&S). Mmmmmm. But calorific.

Spendy day. Don’t want to go into it. But I’ve finished Christmas presents. Phew.

Lovemaltesers · 21/12/2018 21:51

Hope lonely and family are having a fab time!

SneakyGremlinsBrokeTheSleigh · 21/12/2018 22:20

They do have to be roses (She used to get them from her father) but I guess there doesn't need to be 40 Xmas Blush

AutumnLeaves12 · 21/12/2018 22:23

Maybe in your frugal gardening mission you could keep a rose bush, so you always have lots to send. Smile

SneakyGremlinsBrokeTheSleigh · 21/12/2018 22:25

Oh that's a BRILLIANT idea.

Got a £25 Amazon voucher today from a friend so I can get seeds in the spring Xmas Grin

AutumnLeaves12 · 21/12/2018 22:36

LOL! Rose seeds would be fantastic.

I grew a rose from seed once. It was lovely. It was called Rosa rugosa 'Alba' and had lovely white flowers.

SneakyGremlinsBrokeTheSleigh · 21/12/2018 22:44

Oh that's gorgeous!

AutumnLeaves12 · 21/12/2018 23:11

Is it right that you don't have outside space though? It might be tricky to grow roses for cutting if you don't.

SneakyGremlinsBrokeTheSleigh · 21/12/2018 23:16

I have the stairs outside which are covered in planters, and lots of pots inside - my bedroom gets about 9 hours of sun and is one big pane of glass!

Actually won Buxton in Bloom this year too

LonelyOversharer · 21/12/2018 23:22

Do not grow roses from seeds!! They will take forever. Buy a nice young plant from your local nursery. Just a few quid.

We are here!! Left and got here in 40 minutes. The lodge is about the same size as our house! Had tea (fridge full left), went swimming, then bowling. Absolutely brilliant. Spent £1 people drying machine and £17 Shock on 4 slushies and 2 pepsi's. The outside pool was about 35° and steaming, it was raining so very strange. Lovely to relax and let the girls go off by themselves.

So fun, and so worth the effort of organising. Thank you ebay and old bike shiz.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 21/12/2018 23:37

Lonely, sounds lovely, enjoy!

SneakyGremlinsBrokeTheSleigh · 21/12/2018 23:38

People drying machine? Xmas Grin

Wolfcub · 22/12/2018 05:28

Lonely that sounds like a lovely first day. Enjoy.

Morning all, happy frugal Saturday people. I need to get up and take dm shopping.

Haircut later. Also need to replace one Christmas present that I gave to the ocado driver because I forgot to pick something up for him

AutumnLeaves12 · 22/12/2018 06:22

That sounds brilliant Lonely. Pool sounds amazing.

sneaky your stairs would be great for roses. I think you were joking about growing roses from seed were you? I often make jokes on here and people think I am serious and raise their emoticon eyebrows at me. Blush Must work on my delivery.

If you wanted to grow roses, it's a good idea to buy a really good plant from the best nursery available. Roses are very fickle. David Austin is a good nursery: www.davidaustinroses.co.uk/

Also if you did fancy growing roses to cut, then it's good to buy a cutting variety that will have been bred for the ability of the flowers to keep, after they have been cut from the plant, otherwise they will just wilt in the post.

There are websites that say which are the best varieties for cutting, like this one:
