Velcro on jammies and bed sheets?

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/11/2018 08:05

Jam What a relief for you, is the dog getting better?.

Snuggly Yy to tucking in. Could you buy a double duvet and tuck it under the mattress?.

SnugglySnerd · 18/11/2018 08:46

All brilliant suggestions, thank you! At the moment she has a toddler bed and a normal single duvet that we stuff down between the bed and the wall. A double duvet would be even better. I'm sure my mum has one of those heavy bed spreads. I'll ask if we can borrow it to try. Otherwise I'm bringing the gun tacker home from work!!

SnugglySnerd · 18/11/2018 08:46

Velcro Grin

Wolfcub · 18/11/2018 09:06

Morning all. Snuggly I agree with a tight tuck in. A thin blanket over the top of the duvet always worked for us. I firmly believe children who cannot wriggle because they are anchored to their mattress sleep better!

Morning all. Up and about to take ds to contact in a minute. Will do my ironing while he’s there and maybe have a nice quiet cuppa and an episode of Bosch

AutumnLeaves12 · 18/11/2018 09:24

Wolf I think you're right. I was always tacked down and by my teens had advanced to 3 duvets and a candlewick bedspread over the top. #TakingNoRisks.

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/11/2018 10:40

71p church collection as that is all the change I had

AutumnLeaves12 · 18/11/2018 11:15

Both ds and dh think it's best if dh does not play the cello in the orchestra, so I do not, after all, have to find a cello. Phew.

Bornlazy · 18/11/2018 11:27

Just ordered three Chilly bottles for Christmas presents - £48 😱 Are they actually worth the money? I looked on Amazon for cheaper versions but felt the recipients would appreciate the label...

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 18/11/2018 11:32

Morning all, agree with everyone's suggestions re a bigger duvet and blankets snuggly does she have warm fleecy onesies to sleep in as well?

I'm at work but it's been weirdly sensible for a change, will probably all kick off now I've tempted fate!!

Have been reading a lot about the hpv vaccine and am really unsure about it, have any of you got any thoughts on it?

AutumnLeaves12 · 18/11/2018 11:43

Is that the cervical cancer one?

LonelyOversharer · 18/11/2018 11:50

girlie my two dd's in high school have had it. I admit to being an ignorant idiot who doesn't read up on things, but anything that can help protect/prevent them from going through a cancer is ok by me. I just viewed it as them having an mmr or similar.

This morning we have clipped the hens wings, and let them out to roam and forage for the winter. Hopefully they can't escape out of the garden, but the ancona's are a bit light and fly-y. Last winter they were bum deep in mud, so they are clean and dry in the ark, but I want them to de-slug the garden now all the veg is over. Our last Appenzeller has died, so in the spring we'll hunt out some new ones, and some light sussex I think.

I'm just clearing crap out of the living room, in an attempt to prep the dumpsite room for decorations! So far forced dp to put the spare printer in his shed. It has been on the living room floor for 2 months.

Wolfcub · 18/11/2018 11:57

Girlie I have a boy so can only say what I personally think. I agree with Lonely I would do anything that protected them against potentially future cancer and if I could choose it for myself I would

AutumnLeaves12 · 18/11/2018 12:02

I asked my GP if I could have it. He said that since neither dh nor I had ever got up to anything with anybody else before we were married, there was no chance that I could have caught the virus that causes cervical cancer. (I have led a super-exciting life).

He said we were effectively a closed system so there was no point me having the vaccine. I still get to have all the smear tests though.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 18/11/2018 12:04

I am really pro vaccine but this one has no proven benefits (no decrease in cervical cancer rates have been seen yet) and lots of independent concerns have been raised about a link between the vaccine and cfs/me. It only protects against certain strains of hpv and some evidence is showing the other strains are becoming more prevalent, hpv in most people is harmless.

The initial testing of the vaccine was also flawed and bias.

It's the only time I've really questioned a vaccine, will have a think on it.

AutumnLeaves12 · 18/11/2018 12:11

It's good to know that it's still worth my having smear tests. I didn't know that there were other strains.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 18/11/2018 12:28

Have had a busy morning, tidying, laundering and doing a few job applications.

Jam, it makes it all worthwhile, you must be super proud of him.
The younger DCs and I are going to see DD1 at the weekend and we can't wait.

Born a couple of my colleagues have Chilly bottles and say they are the best, and wished that they got them first instead of cheaper ones. One of them has had theirs for 4 years and still looks good.

Hope you all have a great Sunday, I will be helping the DCs with homework and sorting out lots of stuff today.

Wolfcub · 18/11/2018 12:38

Off to collect ds. I have my fingers and toes crossed he comes home in a good mood. I have been very productive whilst he has been out and I think I’m going to do our main meal when he gets home and then just have soup later so that I can have a chilled evening

LonelyOversharer · 18/11/2018 12:47

Is the link between cervical cancer rates and hpv not proved yet because the girls having the vaccine aren't yet at the risky age group? Dd1 was in the first batches to have it rolled out into schools, and she's still 15. Or has the vaccine been around for years and we just weren't offered it? I certainly never had it and in my 20's must have been in the riskiest risk catagory for catching hpv Blush

Again, might be talking complete bollocks!

On a side note, co-op roast ham and chutney tortilla roll crisps are rather yummy...

mammynowanauntyIRL · 18/11/2018 12:48

€2.08 church collection - all the coins in my purse basically

How many hours contact does he have with h wolf ?

Girlie interested in hpv debate as dd is now 8, I've never questioned vaccines before but after the issues with swine flu one I just an unsure

Jam that was a fabulous update on your ds, it's all we want for our children to be independent confident adults Star

AutumnLeaves12 · 18/11/2018 12:54

What happened with the swine flu vaccine Mammy?

ememem84 · 18/11/2018 12:58

girlie I’ve known two people who have had cervical cancer. One is still with us. Admittedly neither had smears so it largely went unnoticed until it was too late.

I’m all for it. I’ve had a few unusual smears which have shown hpv. So anything that protected I’d go for.

Totally understand the worry though. Xx

Frugal win here. Dh took ds to see fil. And returned with a sack of carrots and onions.

They’re playing and I’m washing peeling and chopping so they can be frozen. It was a mixed sack so ds helped sort them.

£4 Iceland on large freezer bags and some sparkling water. I walked there. It was a 30 minute trip there shop and back. Nice.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 18/11/2018 13:13

DD1, who is 20 had the hpv, whilst she was at secondary. We discussed it and ultimately it was her choice.
And I thought the same as lonely, that we didn't have enough data yet and also that it was only rolled out in 2008??

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/11/2018 13:17

Did you look at the Australian program Girlie? www.theguardian.com/society/2018/mar/04/australia-could-become-first-country-to-eradicate-cervical-cancer

If we'd have had kids I would have vaccinated.

Let's face it, as hcp you and I have plenty of vaccines the others won't have had to get and we're fine.

Dhs ex had the hpv virus and pre cancerous cells removed which she blamed on dh as she'd only been with him. I haven't got it.

AutumnLeaves12 · 18/11/2018 13:31

What extra vaccines to hcps get fluffy? One of my friends is a medic and she always looks really kind of fragile on the day after the flu vaccine, when she says they all have to go work even though they feel like garbage.
