Thanks wolf
I typed a post last night then fell asleep with ds & managed to lose it somehow

€4560 on 0% for 9 months money transfer - card & pin will live in safe at home after I activate it so I can view my account online. Got bic & iban & reference # for payment so I can set up standing order immediately. I will pay off biggest cc & close that account, that's €3773.99 plus I think you've to pay the government charge of €30 when closing account too, remainder will be paid off card with 0% running out at beg of Dec, leaving about €300 of balance of that, will divide by # of weeks left to 6 month date & pay weekly, this card will be used for Christmas shopping but repaid out of joint account as it occurs for insurance. Leaving one cc left charging interest

Actually just looked up interest rates of 2 cards not on 0% & the smaller balance is charging higher interest so possibly €886 to this, aargh need to put this stuff into a calculator somewhere & work out where to clear first

Total owed on cc €5555, 0% €4560 so €995 remaining to pay interest on.
Fluffy?
€896.15 0% until beg of Dec
€886.13 18.25%
€3773.99 15.75%

Was planning to keep one card for buying online for credit card protection. But only to be used if payable within the interest free period.

Sorry for massive rambling post everyone

AutumnLeaves12 · 23/10/2018 06:05

kitkat yes fruit is suddenly in big demand here, and ds has never asked for fruit before so it's really surprising.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 23/10/2018 06:06

Good morning to everyone today won't be a nsd, but I'm going to keep myself out of shops by leaving money for au pair to buy milk & ready brek thus avoiding any unnecessary spends Grin

AutumnLeaves12 · 23/10/2018 06:17

I've been thinking about the buying things and clutter problem -

I'm definitely finding my new music hobby is good for not making clutter. I've always liked to build things, but whenever I take on a new building project, I need to buy tools and bits and then I build something. Then the thing, the bits and the tools all take up space and money. And the worst thing is that I then go on to build something else which also takes up space and money.

Now that I'n having a go at music, I still feel as though I'm creating something, but the music takes up no space and costs no money, which is great.

If I really push the boat out and write some music, then I really feel as though I have built something, but it still takes no space.

I think I may definitely be on to something for frugality, and for not having a house full of clutter.

The lessons cost a lot cumulatively, which is a bit more tricky. I'll have to learn fast so I can start teaching other people. Smile

WereWolfcub · 23/10/2018 06:19

Morning. Sod all sleep last night either for me or ds. He was feeling off and the wind was absolutely howling round the house. I have a mad day at work today and then taking ds and friend to a show tonight.

Need petrol and milk before I go to work.

Happy frugal Tuesday everyone

Thanks wolf.

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/10/2018 06:31

Mammy so is one card on 0% until December? I would clear that next otherwise a chunk of back dated interest will be added. Which then negates the 0%

If not go for the highest rate first. So the £3774 then the 18% then the rest. For the last do the standing order trick until you have it paid off.

Do you need to put Christmas on there?

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/10/2018 06:32

I've been reading but not posting. Going too fast for me to keep up with as the world is crazy chez life.

Welcome newbies.

Justanothermile · 23/10/2018 07:05

Love the title thanks Wolf, it's brill.

Checking in.

thistimenextsummer · 23/10/2018 07:06

Thanks for new thread wolf. Early morning place marking. It's dh's turn to do the early get up so I'm having 5 more minutes snuggled under the duvet - I suppose clocks go back this week?

AutumnLeaves12 · 23/10/2018 07:09

Thanks for the new thread Wolf Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/10/2018 07:21

Thank you Wolf Flowers

tarriance If he’s a student and he’s got a nus card he can get you 25% off in Superdrug too if my memory serves me. They do very reasonably priced make up called MUA.

Clocks go back Sunday morning.

WreckTangled · 23/10/2018 07:25

Thanks wolf

Girlie I would look up quinoa recipes on bbc good food they're usually my go to

Working in the toy shop today after an awful nights sleep 😴

LonelyOversharer · 23/10/2018 07:42

Thanks wolf I hope you get some decent sleep at some point this week. Thanks for the thread.

I'm only up because my new dishwasher got delivered half an hour ago. I just had time between the call and them arriving to throw on my jeans and replait my hair...didn't want to scare the shit out of them! On the plus side, no waiting in for it today.

The odd plus of living in the remote outlands, you generally are first on any delivery list.

I'm going to do some work now, as the extra money this week should cover the paint for the room. The bit I got skimmed is lovely! All smooth and finished. Just the rest to go. Lets be clear, the wall is only 85% flat, I'm certainly no pro, but smooth plaster (which gently undulates) is massivley better than bare brick and falling off horse hair dust-held-on-by-100-years-of-paint that was there before.

Blowing a fierce gale here too, the first day I hang out laundry. I'll rescue it once it gets light (so I can spot the doggy landmines).

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 23/10/2018 08:02

Morning.
Thanks for the new thread wolf, love the title!

Going to meet my friend for coffee in an hour, but will quickly get my eyebrows done first then going to my Mums this afternoon.

Lovemaltesers · 23/10/2018 08:05

Thank you for the new thread wolf

mammynowanauntyIRL · 23/10/2018 08:14

Love the title of thread @wolf, just looked at it now, was only looking at thread with one eye open earlier this morning Grin

Yes life one card is 0% until beg of Dec so would definitely have to clear that one.

I won't need to put Christmas on credit, I'm culling my christmas present list to dc, parents, au pair, niece and grandchildren(token gifts, possibly book tokens from my shopandscan account Grin H can be buying the full presents for them). Going to have a Christmas night at mine at beg of Dec for those I would've bought presents for previously.

Gifts for teachers too unfortunately but that will be from joint account.

Getting gym membership for myself & dc, df always gives me €500 for christmas & membership for 3 of us is €759 but €849 for 2 adults & 2 dc so think I'll get that for au pair also. She's been so good in the 3 years she's been with us and throughout separation too. I would have to pay €349 myself.

By the time I go for my shopping trip to Brum with cuz I'll have €870 saved, this will be Christmas spends & I also get quite a lot of cash gifts through my work so that'll help with that too.

€500 bonus from work also but I usually keep this for my car insurance at beg of Feb.

Want to get my financial life in order so that when I buy my own place I'm starting on the right foot.

Welcome plink and tarriance

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/10/2018 08:20

I was thinking you won’t have to buy the dc a lot as your ex will go full on Disney dad mammy

Hotchocolate86 · 23/10/2018 08:23

Hello, can I join? I’m hoping to have as close to a no spend month as I can manage this month to try and recover my account. Plus I need to save as much as possible to move.
Today has been an expensive day already as I have bought:
3.5 tog grobag off eBay
3 x sleepsuits with padded arms off eBay
4 x thermal vests for me and clothes for the kids in Sainsbury’s 25% off
It all came to £82.64 so not cheap by any means.
Next month I need new school shoes and to get my hair cut but I plan to keep any extra spends as minimal as possible.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 23/10/2018 08:38

curvy you just reminded me I need to book my eyebrows for tomorrow too, they're getting kind of scary Hmm

Just requested my balance of £10.43 to my paypal account as wasn't sure if BACS would work for ROI & even though it'd have been worth more if I used the Rewards I chose to not use this option as it can go straight against debt this way.

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/10/2018 08:46

Mammy have you checked if your existing cards, the ones you are about to clear, have any promo balance transfer rates for existing customers. You may be able to juggle onto a lower rate for the stuff you can't get into 0% but without extending your borrowing

Welcome hot

Sainsbury's 25 off clothes started today

ememem84 · 23/10/2018 09:00

Thanks for the new bread wolfie

mammy good work on the cc. Sounds as though you’ve got things sorted.

Today I’m buying a toaster and stairgates and will look at getting a smart meter for our electric.

Still in bed. Taking it easy today. Watching Lorraine.

warmleatherette · 23/10/2018 09:15

lifelongfrugalleer what's that about backdated interest being added when you reach the end of a 0%? One of my cards is ending its 0% at the end of the month - I had better switch, and quick!

mammynowanauntyIRL · 23/10/2018 09:30

I assume Santa will be done jointly fluffy and we generally only do small present from ourselves. I'm looking on gym membership as the gift that keeps on giving as we can go swimming whenever they want next year & it will reduce the cost of swimming lessons also.
I'm not starting a competition with gifts, if he wants to splash out and overindulge them let him go right ahead!
I must check in attic as I think there's a county tracksuit up there for dd from last year that was too big, spotted it when getting halloween decorations but ds was with me so didn't get to investigate.

Spotted a knex set reduced to €14.99 in argos so have reserved that for ds, must see if someone else will pick it up for me though as he'll be with me tomorrow when I'm in town Hmm

Welcome hotchocolate what age are dc? Sounds like you've got the good habits of buying off ebay and using discount codes/sales off already Grin

btw where has zoflora been all my life Grin put a drop in mop bucket with some vinegar and my sitting room smelt amazing last night Grin Plus saves me buying floor cleaner - mission to empty out cleaning cupboard too

Today is supposed to be bedrooms on organised mum but it's my night with dc I'm going to entrance hall & stairs with their bedroom and switch rest of bedrooms to tomorrow night.

NursieBernard · 23/10/2018 10:02

Thanks for the new thread Wolf.

Fluffy - Thank you, app now downloaded and the points were in my Nectar account this morning Smile

Balance transfer hit the account today so 0% credit cards stand at:

  1. £2390 - 0% until 11/19
  2. £2733 - 0% until 04/20
I can't believe that it has got up to those amounts with not a lot to show for it. Card number 2 was essential spends like road tax and professional registration fees Sad Hopefully being accountable on here will help me realise where we can save money so that I can pay things like the road tax from savings rather than credit cards.

Have a good day everyone Smile
