I’m not sure I like swfl. I get the concept. But most of it is “you’ve bought expensive stuff here’s some cheaper stuff you’d be better off with” which for products/cleaners/make up then yes I see that it makes sense to try something cheaper once the stuff you have has run out.

But with things like handbags shoes TVs. Nope....

I’d like to see a “get out of debt save money sell you’re stuff buy cheaper” program.

I love birthdays.

I know what Dh has bought me (and have already moaned about it #ungrateful). He’s got me a luumi alarm clock (one of the sunrise ones) which I was contemplating getting. But dh actually wants this. Have pointed out that birthdays are for the person. So I need something just for me too. #demanding

Have also reminded him that ds has to get me something. (As ds got him something).

I’ve asked Dm and dsis for vouchers for new clothes. And for some make up. I’m running out of face moisturiser so have asked for a new one. Its not cheap (I may be a candidate for swfl....) so it’s nice if someone buys for me! Haha

Does anyone remember the show “bank of mum and dad” (I think it was called). Kids had to tell parents how much debt they had and they were budgeted. I liked that show.

Cagliostro · 20/09/2018 10:35

Thanks jam I am expecting to need an appt or phone call from GP soon anyway to arrange blood tests so I’ll probably wait till then unless it gets worse. It feels like an annoying thing rather than a worrying thing IYSWIM.

The nap didn’t happen so I’m watching The Slap instead!

northender · 20/09/2018 11:28

Oh Girlie sorry the physio has been cancelled. Another week to wait is a long time when you're off work.
Cag hope you get sorted & feel better.
Mammy I'm the same, I find cooking & baking therapeutic & quilting & reading too so while I'm busy at the moment with work and study I'm trying to make sure I make time to do those things to help keep me sane! None of them have much cost attached either which is a bonus. Quilting could be pricey, but I've built up such a fabric stash that it isn't at the moment Grin.
Christmas I hope your ds manages to enjoy what you do on his birthday. The picture story sounds like a great way to explain it to him.

Study day here today so I'm working on my first assignment which has to be submitted on Monday afternoon. It doesn't count towards the final assessment but will be marked as if it is, so will give me a good idea as to where I am in terms of my writing. I've already done quite a bit today as I made an early start, then went to a circuits class. Need to do another stint now before lunch.
I've just put our numbers into my spreadsheet and we've gone a bit over with our spending this month, but should have a better couple of weeks now & be able to pull things back.
Dd's German exchange student arrives in just under 2 weeks...eek!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 20/09/2018 12:27

Yes I'm sad about the physio, need to ring them to confirm new appointment but am too annoyed to atm!

Have spent the morning cleaning my bedroom, it was well needed and is sparkling now. I'm also digging out pics that will go on a projector at my party, since dd was born there are hardly any pics of me and friends! Millions of dd though. All pre dd photos are in the loft so going to have to venture up there at some point....

I love my bday, presents and cake what's not to love 😆 this year is the first party I've had in 22 years though.

Dd needs a new school skirt

Lovemaltesers · 20/09/2018 13:34

Frugal fail. I bought two pairs of cheap slippers off joules eBay for me this week. When they arrived both were child sizes 🤦‍♀️ They will fit DD1 soon though Grin

Hope your DS enjoys his birthday seacow

Sorry to hear about the cancelled appointment girlie

I've now made it home back to my bed until time to pick up from the childminder 💤

£39.50 nails.

And I visited the zero waste shop. Which is intriguing. Take your own containers or buy theirs and then fill with pasta, rice, pulses, beans, flours, sugars, teas, coffees, spices etc. They also sell vegan cosmetics and solid shampoo and conditioner bars.

Have worked on a budget spreadsheet. Have two in play at the moment. One just my money (which I need to track back my statements the last three months and see where my money is going) and one for our joint ac for the future. So I can work out how much I have to put into it to cover all of our expenses.

SummerDaize · 20/09/2018 14:28

I just went for my second clarinet lesson and the teacher played the accompaniment so sensitively on the piano that I nearly melted onto the floor. And that was only scales. After 3 goes through moon river I was toast. Best £20 ever spent.

Wolfcub · 20/09/2018 14:59

Life it’s a bit wet in Sheff today!

Pouring down here too. Makes me feel better having to stay in studying though!
Em love the idea of the zero waste shop. Sort of on that subject & I know I've asked you before, but I am going to order this time, which reusable pads do you have?

mammynowanauntyIRL · 20/09/2018 15:05

Never been, it's an industrial town from what I recall from school.

em I do similar, ynab for myself and ynab for joint expenses.
I'm intrigued by solid shampoo but only Johnson's baby doesn't destroy my colour so I'm slow to change from that. Would love to visit zero waste shop but I think I'd end up spending loads because I wouldn't have prices before going to till.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 20/09/2018 15:06

Sounds lovely summer

WreckTangled · 20/09/2018 15:14

No rain here just wind. Will need to put the trampoline net down when dh gets home I think.

Thatsnotmybookworm · 20/09/2018 15:50

@summerdaize I also love folding laundry; in fact I enjoy laundry generally, I find it very soothing. I hate cleaning but would do laundry all day long!

Updated spends from yesterday:
£180 new boots (I’m hoping I’ll wear them loads though, so should be a low cost per wear)
£44 on a rug for DD’s bedroom and two throws, one for sitting room and one for kitchen (if they suit)

Today’s spends:
£1 parking
£6 lunch
£57 supermarket
£32 anniversary gift for DH

SummerDaize · 20/09/2018 16:09

Oooops. I got too relaxed after my clarinet lesson, fell asleep on the dining room floor and failed to show up for school pick-up until ten minutes too late. Anybody who knows how highly strung I am will understand that this is a borderline miracle in the relaxation department.

I think clarinet lessons should be available on prescription.

ememem84 · 20/09/2018 16:11

Ohmammy I’m probably going to spend a fortune in there....

north I bought these. They’re really good.

I also love folding laundry!

When is the big day Girlie? Hope you and Cag feel better soon, these lingering issues are very disheartening.

Cake pops went down well (at least on appearance!) and I was very proud of DS because he sat and gave them out to his classmates (with a bit of help from his LSA). Pic is attached, I tried to make them look manly Grin

They're fab @seacow
oh oh @em

mammynowanauntyIRL · 20/09/2018 16:48

I hate cleaning too, well find it a thankless chore because our house is cluttered.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 20/09/2018 16:52

I absolutely loved bank of mum and dad

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 20/09/2018 17:06

Not until Nov seacow hopefully I should be all recovered by then!! Those cake pops look amazing 😍

Oops summer was your ds a bit worried? Just as well you woke up!

Think I might make a cake..........

Justanothermile · 20/09/2018 17:15

I've made brownie, and hummus (roasted red pepper, value peppers in droves I bought the other day), freekah salad.

It's bucketing down here, so the dog walk was a wet affair, but actually quite enjoyable.

Roast sweet potato dhal for tea. DH is away againSad

Cagliostro · 20/09/2018 17:19

Those look awesome seacow 😍

Inadvertent NSD as I have fucking lost my fucking bank card. For. Fucks. Sake. Left a message with the shop I used it in yesterday in case I left it in self service till.

Feels like one thing after another ATM. But saves the money I suppose 🙄 we’ve just had a quiet afternoon and done a tiny bit of organising house stuff etc, also been finding out about an alternative gym club, equipment is much better so she will get more varied lessons than current one which is mostly floor, but it’s more expensive. But also it means we can swap taekwondo to the local class (same awesome teacher just different location 20 minute walk away) which will mean a reduction overall in how much time we spend travelling. And we will actually have Monday evenings at home with no clubs!

Annoying things like today’s loss is normally prime “fuck it I’ll get a takeaway” territory (I know my card number :o) as we eat in town on Thursdays, but we’ve got a jar of pasta bake stuff lurking in the cupboard so will do that shortly instead. I don’t cook it as instructed but add grated veg, sweetcorn and a bit of tuna (not enough to alert DS 🙄)

Wolfcub · 20/09/2018 17:29

I need new shoes. The rain has ruined my shoes Sad
