I am starting a no spend month (on non essentials). I probably should have started this on Saturday. But hey ho.

From now until 2 October (giving it a full month) I am not spending on:

  • clothes (unless absolutely essential)
  • shoes and accessories (see above)
  • toiletries
  • “stuff”

Things we have absolutely to pay for:

  • mortgage booking fee if the house is ok today £999....eeeek!
  • Nursery fees £997...eeeek!
  • storage £156
  • phone bills £35 maybe (were not paying internet or landline any more just mobile so should be around the £35 Mark)
  • car parking space £170

It is ds’ birthday on 24th. We’re going to have a small party at home. I’m making a cake. And have set aside some money for his presents (although no idea what to get him).

September is the month to save save save. If we can. We’ve got no housing costs this month so can save pretty much everything. Dm doesn’t want money for food electric or anything like that.

AdoraBell · 03/09/2018 10:30

I was thinking of doing to same em.

I have boots that need re heeling so will be walking into town after my grocery delivery arrives. That should be about £90 depending on substitutes.

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/09/2018 10:33

I think you are over thinking lonely. Defo didn't get any holier than thou

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/09/2018 10:38

September and October are spendy here as DC birthday. £50 deposit for party.
Gifts to get.
Have to reassess saving plan once mortgage paid off.
Got to get new winter clothes. Have £50 next voucher to start with.
Might look at Hush too based on fluffy and jam's enabling. Is it worth the cost?
I have to be about to walk 4 miles a day in our and the rest of the time be office based

ememem84 · 03/09/2018 11:06

life I think with hush it very much depends on what you buy. The ruched skirts are worth the money. #enabling

We’re having a quick play before we get loaded into the car.

Ds has helped me do my make up (I give him a clean brush and he likes to swish it and also let him hold my mascara (closed...)) and has helped me put things in my handbag. He’s also helped me put the washing out. He played with the bag of pegs.

TakeItSlow · 03/09/2018 11:18

Em it's worth buying anything that he will need up to the age of 2 at this point because he won't have another birthday until then. So that means push along toys and tricycle with a handle and a car to sit and ride in and stuff like that. There's a whole world of huge unwieldy toys out there just waiting to be enjoyed. LOL!

Cagliostro · 03/09/2018 11:50

Yes forward planning definitely the way, er, forward with first birthdays. Especially as their birthdays are quite close to Christmas. I think in a way they change more in their second year than their first in terms of what they are capable of and how they play!

I haven’t decided either yet though.

Thanks Life. I’m a bit less on edge following a nap and I don’t have ds today to deal with. He has been saying some unpleasant things which have been hard to hear.

On the plus side h’s money finally arrived in my account so I have done some more account shuffling!

Wolfcub · 03/09/2018 12:30

Em, ds got this sort of thing at that age (different dog though) . He loved it to death,

TakeItSlow · 03/09/2018 13:08

Vtech baby walkers are also very popular and work for pre--walkers too.

ememem84 · 03/09/2018 13:10

take Dparents are buying a tricycle and dsis has bought a mini trampoline.

TakeItSlow · 03/09/2018 13:12

We had a brilliant thing like this too:

www.amazon.co.uk/Raleigh-Sunbeam-Digg-Boys-trike/dp/B009W13AUA?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Great because we walk everywhere on smooth pavements and he got too heavy for the pushchair. That might have been 2+ though, I think it depends on the child and how physical they are maybe.

ememem84 · 03/09/2018 13:15

Amazing! Thanks guys for the suggestions. Xx

We went to view the house again. Turns out master had a king size bed. And a wardrobe. And was bigger than I thought.

So we’re ok.

Dh went in the loft and has noticed a hole in the felt. He mentioned it to the agent who will mention it to the vendors.

We’re happy subject to survey now. So that’s all good. Dh is going to instruct the bank the mortgage acceptance today. Eeeep.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 03/09/2018 13:28

Woo hoo em that's brilliant full steam ahead so!

fisher price rocking horse db got this for dds first birthday it was loved!

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/09/2018 13:37

Excellent news em.
We had a push along walker thing that played a song that made me standby...."hello puppy calling you, want to play with me. Let's have fun together while you learn your ABC" GAH even after years it's stuck in my head.

Rushed skirt yes. I have a blank one that's great. The sky blue one is too short for work though.

Ah that's hard wolf. I'm sure he doesn't mean it and is lashing out to the person closest to him. I'm always at the end of a pm.

TakeItSlow · 03/09/2018 13:39

We had the same pushalong life, just freecycled it. They don't seem to sell it new now. It was very good.

TakeItSlow · 03/09/2018 13:40

We just went and spruced up the school flower beds ready for the start of term. Funny to think of a new year starting.

ememem84 · 03/09/2018 13:52

Oh god life we have that one. Ds is obsessed with the “e is for elephant” key. He will not press any others. I thought I was being clever turning the sound off. But he’s worked out how to turn it back on.

Must check if it has batteries....

Spends £14 in boots on two packs of nappies and some teething granules. Paid with boots points. I have £70 worth still so more than enough to treat myself if I need anything.

We’ve had jelly and pasta bake for lunch. Mmm.

Now ds is napping. Or pretending to. He was falling asleep in the car as we arrived back but is now full of beans it seems.

I’ve left him in his cot I can hear him. But am not going in. If I go in he’ll get all riled up and want to play. And I have stuff to do!!!

He helped me put out another load of washing though. Such a helpy helper.

ememem84 · 03/09/2018 15:02

Ok so. Postman’s just been. And he’s delivered a cheque addressed to me for £2000. From our government.

All records on it (name address tax no etc) are correct. Except I have no idea why I’ve recieved it.

Googled the reference and it appears to be from a student finance gift fund. I finished being a student in 2006.....

TakeItSlow · 03/09/2018 15:09

There's a few people on here wouldn't mind one of those, I bet.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/09/2018 15:10

Ring them, it'll be a right pita if you have to return funds. Excellent result on the house.

£3 menstrual cup.
30p liners in case it leaks.
£5.50 cat food
£15 petrol
£10 stationary.

Switched electric tariff. £20 a month saved.

ememem84 · 03/09/2018 15:12

I’ve emailed. Because they aren’t picking up phones.

Apparently it’s absolutely for my tuition. They e sent me correspondence from “someone with the same name as me” accepting a place at uni and the application form for the grant. It’s been sent in a “duh thicky don’t you remember this?!?!” Way.

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/09/2018 15:20

So is it legit then em? Excellent if it is.

Jam and anyone else please can I take you up on the offer of Sainsbury's Lego cards. DC have now decided to collect them
£9 refund and £60 spent in said shop

WreckTangled · 03/09/2018 15:54

Got ds' winter boots in the sale for £30. So cute.
