Sorry I've been MIA. It's been a busy few weeks. Looks like I've been missing some very big events here. Congrats. to Cag on getting your new house keys and to meadow on the birth of your darling baby girl and to Lonely on your new job.
Cag you mentioned the need for wardrobes earlier in the thread and whether you should buy them all at once or go for a cheap and cheerful alternative that you can replace at a later stage. Obviously cost is a factor - can you afford to buy 3 wardrobes all at once? Also, bear in mind that plans to buy things further down the line don't always materialise. I'm looking at a second hand cabinet in my sitting room which we got from my BIL's DM when we were buying our first house. We said it would do us until we could afford to replace it with a new one. That was 19 years ago and we still haven't replaced it! Childcare costs and the recession got in the way. So I would go for something that will do you for a few years if necessary, as opposed to something that will have to replaced in six months time. Or maybe buy a new wardrobe for you and DH and something of a temporary nature for your older DD and DS. I'm not sure if your two DDs will end up sharing a room? Will they need a double wardrobe in future?
Wolf good work on the debt consolidation. Enjoy your gin and take away and don't feel guilty. You've been through a very traumatic time and you're still trying to pick up the pieces.
Lonely I know I mentioned it already but I'm so pleased to hear about the new job. I suspect you've been shouldering the financial burden for a long time and you could really do with some relief. And even if they don't keep you on after the trial, you'll have gained some valuable experience. I'm sure they will though. The panda birthday cake is fab. - I love the marbling effect. By any chance, did you watch Zumbo's Just Desserts on Netflix? They made some amazing creations.
em I love your tropical print dress from Tuesday. I love floral and tropical patterns (they'd hate me on the Style and beauty thread). Sorry you're not feeling so well atm. Congrats. on selling the boat finally.
Bandit I also love the threads about what things are called. I'm always intrigued and amused by the regional variations it's definitely Santa not Father Christmas. Thanks for the egg fried rice instructions - I'll have to save them before we move onto the next thread.
Seacow belated happy birthday to your little DD. Enjoy the party tomorrow. Your garden is lovely. Did you get your oven fixed in the end?
Laska have a lovely time in Greece and send us some photos not jeaous at all. Good news about DS's job. Very annoying about your phone but sure, that's a small price to pay to keep in contact with us while you're on your hols.
Welcome aboard Witch
mammy your cross stitch project is amazing. I'm sure the teacher will be thrilled.
Love belated happy birthday to you also. I take it you're visiting the in-laws this weekend? Hope it passes quickly.
Born I hate the stress of packing and work is usually crazy before you finish up as well. Are you staying in the UK?
Hi to anyone else I've missed.
It's been a gorgeous day here and it looks like we've a heatwave in store for the next week. It's going to hit the high 20s towards the end of the week.
I went to a dance competition today to support a friend so I spent €5 on raffle tickets and €1 on a bottle of water. I won a bottle of wine in the raffle
. Unfortunately, the competition dragged on for hours (there were different categories for each age group). By the time they finally announced the winners, we were starving, so I got a Chinese take away for me and DD (€19.50). My friend didn't win but I'm glad I went anyway. Oh and I bought a Toblerone ice cream - I think that was €2. The shop freezer was very low on ice creams.
