🍸 pretty sure there's an olive in here Grin

Wolfcub · 11/06/2018 20:26

Cag that’s good news about taking the house. Look for companies who do whole house on off cleans or deep cleans. We have a few locally that also wash the carpets when they do this. I think it will take a weight off.

If the downstairs loo is big is there room for the tumblr drier in there? I’d love a little room for games storage although I guess he majority of our collection will be going with h eventually. Perhaps ask for a wall vent to be put in over the door of that space into the hall if there isn’t one already.

Life I’m in London tomorrow and Wednesday. I will wave in the vaguely Doncaster area as I pass on the train

Lonely that cake is amazing and I’m a fussarse about cakes. I love it! Great news on the money from your mum

Sea hope dh’s back has improved a bit this evening

Meadow birds are super noisy. We have no cows this year and I miss the very loud noises cows make in the night because they drown out the bastard owls

Sainsbury’s for tights for work can’t bear to wear 40 denier or heavier in this weather and I do not have he legs for bare. 10 pounds in nectar points and 1.80 shrapnel from my purse.

SnugglySnerd · 11/06/2018 20:27

I had some delicious olives today!

Just did online shopping order. A 250g packet of shelled pistachios in Tesco is 5 quid!!! Anyone know where you find cheaper nuts? (I cannot stand shelling pistachios but I know that would be more frugal)

Off to catch up on the rest of the thread.

WreckTangled · 11/06/2018 20:36

My mum and dad have got dd the same birthday present! Do you think Sainsbury's would let me swap a dvd for a cd without the receipt?! I don't want to upset anyone...

Wolfcub · 11/06/2018 20:53

Did you use your nectar card Wreck? If you did I think they can swap without a receipt

Wolfcub · 11/06/2018 20:55

I agree it’s really hard to be alone when it’s not just a one off. I am facing an entire week alone no ds no dm or df around the week after next and I am dreading it

WreckTangled · 11/06/2018 20:56

I didn't buy it wolf Grin

Wolfcub · 11/06/2018 20:56

Ignore second post, wrong thread.

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/06/2018 21:03

We will keep you company wolf with our witterings on. X

mammynowanauntyIRL · 11/06/2018 21:09

Cag Eek it's so exciting Grin

Life thanks tooth didn't hurt at all, it's a chipped lower front tooth which dentist makes to look like there's a full tooth there with composite filling, if I didn't do it tooth would erode & hurt in time, it cost €90 for same thing last December & it actually looks more life like this time & cost €50 Grin

Seacow mine are only entering that phase & they're 8 & 4.

Wreck I'm also an olive hating weirdo Grin ds ate focaccia with olives on Saturday cos I could see them stuck in his teeth but once he noticed them on the bread then he didn't want to eat them at all Hmm

Cagliostro · 11/06/2018 21:15

I was going to post the same emoji wreck not that I’d drink a martini even without an olive 🤢

I missed the cake photo, it’s amazing!

ChristmasSeacow · 11/06/2018 22:15

I’m Team Olive. and martini

Yes Cag I’d suggest asking on local community fb group whether anyone can recommend a Cleaner for a one-off deep clean.

DH has just sent me to bed because I was snoring through our tv programme. I’m into week 2 of being bunged up. Knackered too, night night 😴

Taytocrisps · 11/06/2018 22:45

Cag congrats. on the house! Sounds like the positives (flooring, fridge, oven, decking, garden shed etc.) far outweigh the negatives (too small for dishwasher, need for clean etc.).

Lonely that was so generous of your Mum to share her windfall. The cake turned out fab.

We had a successful day shopping in Dublin and DD bought two tops and a pair of shorts. She also bought some notebooks and paint tubes in Tiger. Cag I thought of you in Tiger - they had a hardback notebook with the periodic table on it. I'll root out the receipts tomorrow.

After two glorious weeks, I think there's rain due tomorrow Sad. It was so nice being able to leave the house without a coat or umbrella.

I'm an olive fan Smile.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/06/2018 06:50

I can see the cake now, as always it’s lovely lonely.

The tabletop dw sounds very interesting Cag, you could run it after every meal & you’d still save water. Good housekeeping reckons you use a whole bath full of water a day washing up. A small dw 3 x a day would be 21l & about 2kw of electric so well worth it. When you don’t need it you could sell it, buyer collect, and use the money towards a big one. That oven you linked to would sell too, caravanners use them.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/06/2018 07:03

That cake is great lonely. What a lovely thing from your man. YY defo treat yourself.

Working from home today so no shops nearby. It will mean rubbish steps though too

Lillylollylandy · 12/06/2018 07:37

House sounds great Cag! Just a thought - you mentioned the kitchen is currently too small for a dishwasher and you'd need to remove a cupboard after a year or so. Would that cause you problems with kitchen storage? If so maybe using the narrow cupboard as a pantry as someone suggested from the get go would be a good idea after all?

Meadow you deserve those gold stars.

Em hope things are getting better for you now that one source of stress has been removed.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. I'm currently sidelined with some weird achey virus but on plus side I can't spend any money! DH came home early from work last night to "help" so that I could go to bed early, which appeared to involve him playing on PS4 and leaving all dishes/kid stuff for me to sort out today. Am not impressed Angry

ememem84 · 12/06/2018 08:52

I took ds to Nursery by myself this morning. I made dh wait outside.

Drop off was successful and I’m in work. Yay.

I feel a bit strange having dropped him off. But I will get over this. Kinda have to. Haha!

Cagliostro · 12/06/2018 09:26

I’m not sure really about the kitchen storage, there really is heaps more than what we have now, even if one cupboard is removed. But it’s something we will have to see about in time I guess!

I do feel much better this morning, I remembered how I had to ask what this weird control panel was, and she was like, errrr it’s the heating (with a very politely implied “duh Confused”) - I had no idea as we don’t HAVE heating here. It’s not something that’s on my mind ATM of course because of the nice weather, but fuck it I can put up with a few negatives if I’m no longer crying in pain on a cold day because the house is freezing.

I’ve started finding cleaning companies and the Moving Notebook lists are filling up. Going to get some more boxes today. I need to find out what the tenancy agreement is though (so far they’ve only given us a “good neighbour agreement” which basically amounts to Don’t be an antisocial cockwomble) - I actually realised recently that our current one says you can’t work from home basically 😱😳 I’d like to think the HA one will be more reasonable but it’s worrying me a lot.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/06/2018 09:34

We've got a restrictive covenant saying we can't work from home, our conveyancer said running a haulage company = not ok. Working from a home office = ok.

So basically as long as you aren't causing problems with loads of people parking up to use your business or parking commercial vehicles then it's not something they'd pursue.

I suspect they'd only make an issue of it if you start to piss the neighbours off with comings and goings.

Cagliostro · 12/06/2018 09:52

Fuck, well, I phoned up and there is indeed a statement on there saying you can work from home if employed by a company, but you can’t run your own business :(

I asked why and she wasn’t sure so asked her line manager who told her we can discuss it when we meet to sign everything, and they will explain the meanings of it all, and “discuss any extenuating circumstances” - she used that phrase so I’m hoping it means they would accept the fact I am too disabled to work outside the home (and even if I could, it’s not easy finding childcare for two autistic kids - and they have it on record that all three of us have disabilities as it is the reason they are housing us!) and yeah, it is literally just a few people a week coming to sit at the table/piano so not like there’d be loads of people coming in and out, and we have our own parking space that obviously we don’t use so visitors can.

Hopefully they will be reasonable, I do find it a bit weird that they’d block people trying to better themselves by earning money to need less benefits Hmm :(.

Loveabaconsandwich · 12/06/2018 09:57

Carpet fitter is here and has been a bit of a knob. His job card says the room would be clear, there are three bits of furniture to be moved which I can't move by myself. So paying him an extra £10 for him to do it Hmm

I will take it up with the store as my paperwork said up to 5 pieces of furniture could be moved, once he has gone as a) I need the carpet in b) I need him to do a decent job. I have found a load of 20p pieces to pay him with Grin

SnugglySnerd · 12/06/2018 09:59

I'm sure it will be fine Cag. The neighbours will probably just see it as you having guests over. It's not like you will have a fleet of taxis or an industrial kitchen or something really disruptive.

Well done on the nursery drop off Em.

Cagliostro · 12/06/2018 10:05

The thing that worries me with neighbours is the piano TBH (not just for tutoring but playing generally, not that I get the time these days) - I know the best place to put it but hopefully the walls aren’t too thin.

I know I could just carry on anyway but the fear of someone saying something would be too much for me. Just hope they will be reasonable, the fact she mentioned extenuating circumstances does give me hope but I will have to try not to think about it until we meet them.

If they said no it’s possibly the one thing I’d consider writing to our MP about :o it’s not like I earn much anyway, TBH I’ve earnt virtually nothing since baby arrived, but I was really looking forward to getting going again once we’ve settled in :(

Cagliostro · 12/06/2018 10:07

Most of the lessons are actually tied in with “play dates” anyway as they are home ed friends, so they’d come round for a bit and during that time we’d do a bit of maths/music which I happen to earn a few quid for

Loveabaconsandwich · 12/06/2018 10:16

I'm sure it will be fine cag Thanks
