Cag you will be able to put up shelves, pictures, repaint etc etc we've redone our entire kitchen.

Busy day at work today and I need fuel plus ds has swimming later so will be spendy.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 05/06/2018 09:11

I remember having a panic over the size of rooms etc before we moved, the only room we lost space in was the kitchen which meant I couldn't have a dishwasher! But obviously gained more than I lost so its a small price to pay, have you managed to find out when you can have a look around?

We over slept this morning, dds alarm went off and she turned it off and went back to sleep, mine wasn't set as its my day off! Dd woke up in a panic at 8am, oops!! Oh well she managed to get herself sorted and off to school pretty quickly so hopefully won't be too late.

My plan today is to take various bags of stuff to people that want them, some of dds old clothes to a friend, some cat stuff that girl cat doesn't like to another friend etc. Otherwise a quiet day and hopefully a nsd.

SnugglySnerd · 05/06/2018 09:31

Good luck Sunny and Em with your respective gp appointments.

The house does look great Cag. Lots of storage ideas on Pinterest. I find the only way is to just get rid of/not buy stuff though!

ChristmasSeacow · 05/06/2018 10:14

Gah, just got back from the shops and THEN read Wolf’s advice about nasal spray. Which I should have thought of but didn’t. Duh. Might have to take a detour on the school run or ask DH to pick some up. However, I did have the presence of mind to buy a big fat chocolate eclair, which i am sure will help.

Ive just done a fairly pricey top up shop. My food planning is all in a mess this week for two reasons: firstly, I forgot to add the fresh stuff to the Ocado shop before the cut off (I planned to do it on the train on the way back from Devon but then with seat shenanigans and funeral misery it went right out of my head. I hadn’t thought beyond the weekend)... also, I can’t remember whether I mentioned it but my oven has been making a loud noise recently so I had someone look at it last week and he said the cooling fan needs replacing. It still works but I run the risk of damaging it beyond repair if the fan goes completely because the front of the oven will melt. So I’m trying not to use it except for DS’s essential occasional pizza. That has thrown my meal plans a bit too.

So, top up shop £23, including salmon (£4.25 for 2 fillets, ouch), houmous, fruit, peppers, tomatoes and a few other bits. Plus £8 for night nurse and ibuprofen.

I’ve been quoted £179 to fix the oven and 5 days to get the parts. Ouch. Hope there isn't VAT on top of that.

Cag I am sure you can put up shelves but sometimes freestanding shelf units can be stronger. Depends how handy you are with a drill Wink. When do you get to see inside the house? We are all very excited for you!

Cagliostro · 05/06/2018 10:18

Just had a phone call from the housing trust, they were just asking questions about income to check we can afford it (spoiler alert: of course we bloody can it’s £300 cheaper 😂) although I always get paranoid as I don’t know exact figures for everything so I asked her to ring DH after 😳

But then she will be emailing approval to the manager and that means we can view it, she reckons by the end of the week woohoo!

ememem84 · 05/06/2018 10:39

Eeeeee!! Exciting cag

I’m off to the gp tomorrow morning. Good luck sunny

I am also full of cold. Hoorah. Am a snotty snot face. In positive news my mouth ulcers seem to be clearing up. Wooooohoooo!!

SunnyLikeThursday · 05/06/2018 10:49

My GP appointment worked out fine. Yay! Didn't cry 'till I got home For the win

Bornlazy · 05/06/2018 11:23

NSD yesterday. £55 on Tesco delivery today.

Love sorry about your dad. Hopefully they can manage his symptoms well.

em I always find that my DH lets me down just when I need him most. I am the strong one in our relationship and I think he doesn't know what to do when I need help and am vulnerable. He is great at other times, but I get so disappointed and angry when he behaves like that. I also get little sympathy from my DM as she thinks I expect too much Hmm

Sea have you tried Day Nurse it has pseudoephedrine in it which is great for clearing congestion? Boots sell their own brand of pseudoephedrine for much cheaper than branded ones.

ememem84 · 05/06/2018 11:30

That sounds familiar born I emailed the place I’m going for counselling and said basically this. I have to be the organiser. The strong one. And hen when I fall apart it feels as though no ones there to catch me. Dm thinks it’s because dh can’t cope himself. She seems to think I need to support him before I help myself. I believe the opposite. I can’t help others if I need help myself it’s just adding more pressure. But Dm is a martyr. She would run herself into the ground before even thinking of herself.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/06/2018 13:01

I have eaten some metaphorical frogs today and feel much better. I have more frogs lined up for tomorrow though.

Despite being in credit for each quarterly bill and my recent email requesting they lower my DD my electric company has instead decided they need to raise my bill by £10 per month. Am fuming. It's a job for tomorrow.

NSD.

Cag We viewed a house from that year, or near enough, with a narrow room like that and it had plumbing for a washing machine. It would be easy to stack the dryer on top if that's the case in that house. I'm hoping they haven't wasted valuable living space with a long thin cupboard but no amenities. If it hasn't got power it would be a great pantry/coat storage.

I have a pantry cupboard but apparently we need to store dhs diy stuff in there. Maybe I should look into that this week while I'm off.

ememem84 · 05/06/2018 13:01

£2.40 on a flapjack and a Diet Coke.

£7 something (using boots points) on tissues and sudafed.

Cagliostro · 05/06/2018 13:33

I was wondering about those stacking things for the washer/dryer to be on top of each other is it safe?

I am getting more excited than nervous now I must admit. Now that I know the size is bigger we can pretty much start thinking what to do with the space.

We do need ample storage for DH’s sports club equipment but that could go in a shed if necessary.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/06/2018 13:38

You need special brackets but it's safe. The hard part is getting it up there!.

ChristmasSeacow · 05/06/2018 14:03

Shed Cag, don’t waste House space on sports stuff!

ememem84 · 05/06/2018 14:44

I just took some sudafed for my cold. Am now sat here feeling super floopy. Not very productive but it does make for an interesting afternoon.

floopy - that feeling of being super chill and spaced out and not quite in control. A floopy person is required to do things slowly. And carefully. And not operate any heave machinery.

ChristmasSeacow · 05/06/2018 14:59

Girlie I am back to talk plants, as I have just put through my order. I even paid for named day delivery so I can plant out this weekend as it looks like perfect gardening weather and we’re at home all weekend.

So I got a stunning clematis ‘Rebecca’ for an empty trellis at the end of my garden. I wanted a bold splash of colour. I’d like a late-flowering purple one next to it (another empty trellis) but the ones I liked aren’t available till the autumn. I also got a decent sized pink hydrangea and (extravagantly) I got three weigela ‘all summer red’ which look lovely and have a really long flowering season. Also good in shade. Also some small lavenders to plant in front of the trellises. From a different website I tracked down my favourite Rose, ‘Chandos beauty’, which I had to leave in my previous Garden. I am very excited about having that again as it smells amazing.

I still need a bamboo (non-invasive) for a difficult corner by the shed. I’d like an interesting coloured one. I found a lovely blue stemmed one but it might be too fast-growing.

Bit spendy but we left ourselves some budget when we had the Garden finished 2 years ago to fill gaps but I was too pregnant to care last summer.

Sorry to bore the rest of you Grin

Cagliostro · 05/06/2018 15:26

Not boring! I hope I can join in next year with the plant talk; we’ve already agreed the garden is not a priority at all this year. There will be too much else to do! The only thing will be chucking some wildflower seeds in the wild bit. Which will have to be quite small really as the garden is diddy from what I saw. A vast improvement on NO garden though!!! :o

Does anyone know anything about prepay electricity meters? DH pointed out that there may be one in the new property. Really don’t want one! Can we demand to change to normal bills if so?

Cagliostro · 05/06/2018 15:28

Ooh I just realised that while there’s no front garden (just two parking spaces per house - will be good when we have people over!) there is opportunity for window boxes, hanging baskets etc. Yay! Mustn’t get distracted by that this year though.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 05/06/2018 15:48

seacow those plants sound fab, do you have a morrisons near by? They do some brilliant deals on plants, in fact some of my favourites in the garden came from there! What happened about your tree? Did you get advice on it?

cag we moved this time of year (in fact our two year house anniversary is coming up this month!) and I left the garden to the following spring. I feel so proud of my garden as it's been done on a tight budget and almost all the plants cost less than £3!! Will post a pic later.

Not a Nsd in the end...

Spends
£1.50 charity shop gardening book!
£13 dunelm I popped in to use the loo and they had a sale on 😑 got a few nice bits though and my first Christmas present to put away for dd!!
£7.50 bird food!! That includes 40 fat balls and a shit load of seeds though so should last ages!
£5 getting the next size up school skirt for dd. Took the too small one back, that makes her school skirts £22!! Disgraceful.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 05/06/2018 16:05

Here's some pics of my garden....

girlie - lovely - very colourful. I have a garden and an allotment so lots of veg going in now. saw you are in Somerset - roughly where? I am North Somerset. LSD was meant to be NSD but forgot my lunch - duh!

Wolfcub · 05/06/2018 16:14

Girlie that’s a really beautiful garden. I love the planting

ememem84 · 05/06/2018 16:23

Lovely garden!!!

ChristmasSeacow · 05/06/2018 16:27

No morrisons Girlie, a great source of regret to me on so many fronts. We have abundant Tesco and small Sainies /Waitrose. Have to go further afield for superstores (not big distances but London traffic...). Also not great nurseries either, I have to get out to Essex and Herts for that. Otherwise I’d probably do that and not buy much online.

ChristmasSeacow · 05/06/2018 16:29

The hard landscaping in my garden was £££££. But we made that commitment when we still had good double incomes, before everything changed with DS. I do wish we still had that money but otoh at least as it’s too late we now have a lovely garden!
