March no spend ...

Who's in for March ?

I have to pay a £450 credit card bill and want to put £800 in to savings. This is going to make things extremely tight. But ! With budgeting and NSDs I hope I can achieve it. Good luck to everyone else for March

Feeling guilty about spent £1.99 in costa and £8 left from my weekly allowance until end of tomorrow.

HampsteadHeathen · 24/03/2018 18:16

Don't feel guilty Pink, sometimes you need it. The main thing is not to do it every day out of habit so that it adds up.

I spent £9 on stationary for DD, £2 on books in a charity shop and I did a small grocery shop.

I was hoping to go out this evening but that didn't work out so at least I've saved money on that! I have been looking at clothes online but I will try to make do without for the time being. I'm on a diet so Ideally I would like to lose a bit more weight before buying anything.

FoolandFitz · 24/03/2018 18:49

hampstead I'm on a no spend on clothes this whole year. As well as saving me money, it's saved me loads of time as I no longer look at online clothing shops. Instead I spend my time on saving and investing websites. Smile

I was going to buy presents etc on Amazon the other day but I never got round to it.

Since then I spent £2 on scratch card Blush which was ok as I won £3! £20 for trip and after school care. I also gave DS £1.50 for Sports Relief activities yesterday - he costs me a fortune that boy. Smile

15 out of 24 NSD

FoolandFitz · 24/03/2018 18:53

pink yes, £1.99 is not that bad, you still have money left for tomorrow AND you still need to live a little.

adora and others who have not managed to have many NSDs, there are still 7 days left to make an impact. Smile

pinkroseapp · 24/03/2018 20:41

Getting paid next Thursday, can’t wait! It has been 5 weeks!

breadwidow · 26/03/2018 23:53

Free lunch today, and will be free tomorrow. NSD as well today. Probably can do that tomorrow too.

Chimichangaz · 27/03/2018 05:51

Yesterday was a proper NSD, the first in a long time. Plus I landed myself a shiny new job with a big pay rise Grin

Been too excited to sleep properly (about the job, not the NSD Wink)

HampsteadHeathen · 27/03/2018 06:52

Chimichangaz congrats!

Just bought bread and milk at the corner shop yesterday.

MessySurfaces · 27/03/2018 18:48

Wow chimi result!!!!! Congratulations!

Real NSD yesterday, Woo hoo! Just the bus fare and the phone bill today, and the weekend was groceries. So ESODs at least.

HampsteadHeathen · 27/03/2018 18:56

Oops! I went to Costa today! £4.70

Other than that I spent on cleaning stuff and food in the co-op (£8.98) and I gave my DS £15. DS is home from Uni and broke!

breadwidow · 27/03/2018 20:45

Yey, 2 NSDs in a row.

AdoraBell · 27/03/2018 22:12

Bloody well done Chimi 🍾

Last week I ordered some fancy skin care on offer. So that was £35 instead of about £50.

NSDs other than that for a couple of weeks.

Chimichangaz · 28/03/2018 06:46

Thanks all! Very excited!

Spent £19.70 on a takeaway yesterday to celebrate - not been a great month for NSD but hoping today and tomorrow will be good ones. Away this weekend then again next week for a few days, but at least I had a good couple of months reining in the spending to help with those costs.

HampsteadHeathen · 28/03/2018 18:56

Spent £16 on Easter eggs today and stupidly hadn't planned for it. Also met friends for coffee which cost me about £5.

I think next month I need to work on my grocery budget. My DS is home for a month which always has a disproportionate effect on the grocery bill, especially if I let him do the shopping!

I have just been budgeting next month on YNAB and it is looking bad compared with this month, partly because my council tax payments restart, £197! And that's with the single person discount. Feeling glum Sad

MessySurfaces · 29/03/2018 00:15

hampstead I've just been paid for the last time until mid May (weirdness due to year end...) so I've been spreading it across April and May on YNAB, painful. Beans for us for the foreseeable!!

I spent £1.50 of my "pocket money" on lunch bits to take over to my friend's. Essential or not??? I had the makings of lunch at home, but nothing appropriate, and I could hardly turn up empty handed. Fun money, but pretty frugal anyway. No other spending, so feeling moderately smug.

HampsteadHeathen · 29/03/2018 10:27

Messy that's tough. YNAB is a massive help though, I find.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/03/2018 11:43

Have you thought about paying the council tax over 12 months? It’s easier to find £120 a month than £150 we’d pay over 10 months.

FoolandFitz · 31/03/2018 18:47

Super congratulations chimi that's great news about your new job - when do you start?

hampstead ouch that is a lot of money for Easter eggs but the flip side is that recipients should enjoy them. Wait! Is it a lot of money? I don't actually buy Easter Eggs so I have no clue how much they cost. Confused

Agree with hampstead YNAB makes things a whole lot easier to prioritise where the money goes.

April is going to be a spendy month as it's DS's birthday and present and party associated costs, have to pay for next terms clubs, lunches, instrument lessons, and after school care which are going to go up as DP has changed jobs and will be further away and DS has to stay in it for longer (we've been getting a discount because DS is in the after school care for only a short time). I am also going into town on Monday to check out some dining chairs that we need (our Ikea ones are falling apart) as it's on 20% off. Hopefully, it won't be out of stock.

NSD since last time I posted (I don't count Ocado shop - only top up shops and there's been no top ups) so that's 22 days out of 31 days NSD.

FoolandFitz · 31/03/2018 18:54

Shiny new thread for April [https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/credit_crunch/3209543-April-no-spend here]
