March no spend ...

Peachsnowpop · 26/02/2018 06:56

Who's in for March ?

I have to pay a £450 credit card bill and want to put £800 in to savings. This is going to make things extremely tight. But ! With budgeting and NSDs I hope I can achieve it. Good luck to everyone else for March

Can I join you? Ive been watching the thread over the past month and really need to save some money for a back up fund - I did have some money saved last year but spent far too much and now need to put some by. Im trying to use up whats in my cupboard as much as possible as I have 2 children at uni now, just me and my daughter at home. My faults are buying too much food as I'm used to buying for 4 and when they do come home I cook meals, buy extra and then they go out and don't eat it, so Ive told them if they don't tell me they want dinner I am not cooking. Also when my son is here he eats loads but does not really like cold food like sandwiches prefers hot food.

Today I just did a food shop at Sainsbury's £14.35.

Fredudian sounds like a good plan.

Munchin I really notice my grocery spend increase when my DS is home from uni. It certainly makes it harder to plan. It also coincides with the school holidays which sees an increase in spending on food due to my DD being at home during the day and other increases in spending in other areas.

Nicpem1982 · 04/03/2018 17:40

I didn't do too badly in the city but spend 10.00 and a little make up treat for me and my dd and dn. So not to bad.

Tomorrow I'm at home with dd so nsd for me as well have the afternoon painting after nursery

mamapants · 04/03/2018 19:17

NSD today. Managed to spend the day in the house doing homework, baths, and playing.
Tomorrow will be a NSD too I would think. Got lunch and dinner supplies. DS has dentist appointment and we won't get up to anything else. I have loads of cleaning to do while the children are at school, so that should distract me from any spending.

calzone · 04/03/2018 20:18

I’m back in for this.

Tomorrow is definitely a NSD.

Chimichangaz · 05/03/2018 06:43

nicpem YNAB is You Need A Budget.* Budget tracking software, excellent. Google it, you get at least 30ish days free and possibly more. Think it's free if you're a student.*

Chimichangaz · 05/03/2018 06:44

Not sure where all the bold came from....Confused

Nicpem1982 · 05/03/2018 07:09

Chimi- thank you

HampsteadHeathen · 05/03/2018 19:55

NSD!

breadwidow · 05/03/2018 20:47

Joining. January thread helped a lot and I lost my way in Feb. Need to really hold spending down in March (and April & may) to be able to afford a holiday.

Bit of a mixed start.
1: NSD!
2: bought lunch and then bought 2 bottles of wine
3: got some household stuff from Poundland and had to get my bro a bday present so kinda essential only
4: got DS new glasses - £30 cheaper than expected, but blew £60 on family lunch out, very nice though
Today: NS apart from getting some bargain train tickets for travel to parents in Easter hols

Nicpem1982 · 05/03/2018 21:09

Nsd here apart from a few food essentials lovely friend bought me a bottle of wine as a thank you

Peachsnowpop · 05/03/2018 21:39

My month isn't exactly going to plan ... had to payout £180 on school stuff and scout/beaver subs. £130 on a v large food shop which will cover the week for all 5 of us. I won't step a foot in a supermarket until next week and H had better not either ! I've got mothers day stuff to buy and a child's bday gift £15. I'm not out at all this week which is v unlike me. No wine to have at home, dinners and lunches are all in the fridge/cupboard. £450 credit card bill paid, now hope to put £400 into savings not the planned £800. It's not really savings .. the money saved is going to be used to clear a large bulk of the debt at the end of this year ... or at least that's the plan

Nsd for me!

Hopefully same again tomorrow :)

I'm finding that putting my personal money into a separate account is very helpful as I don't really have access to my full salary on a daily basis. Does anyone else do this

Sib86 · 06/03/2018 16:50

Nsd! I have a sickness bug so that's helped!! Haha!

I did buy a coffee and doughnut for my dd yesterday. I have £44 left to last me 12 days! I need to get presents for mother and mil and postage cost. So basically I can't spend on anything else! I sooo hope I can do this!!

mamapants · 06/03/2018 16:57

NSD yesterday and today.
Will need to get top up shop tomorrow I think.

Peachsnowpop · 06/03/2018 17:21

NSD for me today - part from £1.50 on bus fare. No spending tomorrow, exercise class thur £5 and maybe £10 fri eve ... but this is nothing compared to what I usually spend in a week.

OP posts:
HampsteadHeathen · 06/03/2018 19:00

Essentials only today - co-op for groceries £12.11.

FoolandFitz · 06/03/2018 19:45

NSD until today. £21 on emergency cleaner as house was such a tip and I am still poorly.

MessySurfaces · 06/03/2018 20:27

Well, Monday was meant to be my first day, it was sort of an ESOD (essential spending only day) but a pretty steep one- £90 for a household repair argh! And two bus fares. Ho hum.
Today was ok bar bus fares and some money for a colleague's leaving present. Is that essential??? Couldn't really duck out of it...

Wigwigeconomist · 06/03/2018 21:47

Hi I hope you don't mind me joining, this seems a great idea and I am ready to go!
Have savings to accrue and credit cards to pay. Starting NSDs from tomorrow Shock

Munchkin08 · 07/03/2018 16:17

I've spent £56 pound this week on food, NSD today. I'm going to see how long I can go without buying any more food or going to the supermarket. I am out Friday for a friends birthday but can't do anything about that and out Saturday for Mothers Day.

chickenowner · 07/03/2018 16:58

NSD today and yesterday Smile

Going to London tomorrow but so far I'm doing quite well money- wise as my DP has paid for my first class train ticket (which will include dinner on the train) and has lent me his oyster card! We're staying with family for 2 nights so no hotel costs, although we will either pay for a meal out or buy food and cook for them. Saturday will be pretty cheap as we're going to the V&A (free) and walking in Hyde Park (free). Of course there will be other costs but should be a lovely weekend away and not cost too much.

Munchkin08 · 07/03/2018 18:05

That sounds lovey Chicken. If you have time Sunday Spitalfield Market and Brick Lane are nice to walk round.

I've just had to watch football but instead of getting my the youngest McDonald's I cooked my own and wrapped them in foil to take instead and a flask of Mocha for me. Also sold bread maker today for £15.

I've just finished reading the no spend year and it's a real eye opener, I can't go to the extremes that the author did but did take on some ideas.
