Here for 28 NSD and counting how much is left at the end of the month

NSD today Smile

It's been a quiet day at home doing housework, cooking and watching Netflix!

Chimichangaz · 04/02/2018 08:41

Although yesterday wasn't a NSD it was a thoughtful spend day. Took something back to Sainsbury's for a refund as I realised I had something in my present drawer I could use instead - £9 refund. Bought petrol £45.90. Mooched round TK Maxx and used a gift card, only spent an additional .96p. Spent £5 in the £1 shop, mostly on food containers as I'm batch cooking and freezing. Treated myself to a £5 car wash (considered doing it myself but too wet and cold). Big win though was shopping - had set budget of £20 after going through freezer and meal planning, and spent £14.63 in Aldi, including a bottle of wine and some chocolate treats! Picked some stuff up and forced myself to put it down.

I am seriously shocked at how much I have spent on groceries in the past, and thrown food away. Hopefully this is the start of a new me!

Today won't be NS as am out later, but planning on at least 4 NSD this week.

Gah81 · 04/02/2018 09:24

No NSD yesterday but spent far less than I would have done: took £30 out in cash (from my precious £60 spending cash per week) and once that was gone, that was it! Only spent £15 of it so am pleased.

Today am studying and seeing a friend for coffee. Will walk there and back and it's her 'round' so should be a NSD.

Gah81 · 04/02/2018 09:27

And Holli, I am with you on vet's bills. Have actually reached my insurer's max limit for expenditure so it's all coming out of my pocket now. Another reason why this thread is vital for me this month (and no doubt next!).

ivykaty44 · 04/02/2018 09:28

Gah - if you rent and claim HB you can get help

Gah81 · 04/02/2018 09:52

Thank you Ivy - we are lucky enough to own/not be on HB, so we are just going to have to suck it up!

Freudian next time just put all your 'essential' Amazon purchases in the basket and wait 24 hours before you press the buy now button.

It's amazing how much shite I have in mine, god knows why I thought I needed them. I do have the odd slip up though Wink

See if you can name those items before you go back to the basket -

Can I join? I need to have a very frugal February , no spends on luxurys so far , although may struggle with half term but maybe I can budget ? Rather than no spend ? . I’ve hidden local selling pages , amazon one click .

mamapants · 04/02/2018 13:59

I spent the £12 on swimming and no further spends today.

Unicorndiscoball · 04/02/2018 14:19

I’d like to join please? Did well in January and came in on budget and then bought Hamilton tickets on payday 🙈. My car needs servicing tomorrow, which is going to cost around £150, so that’s going to clear me out a bit. Am doing Tesco shopping online and making our own treats rather than going out for coffees etc. I bought a food mixer with my Christmas money and have been making cakes every Sunday for us to take in lunchboxes and DH got a proper coffee maker with his so isn’t buying a coffee on the way to work every morning. Had a hair cut today at super cuts (1 hour wait but only £15, compared to the £65 I was quoted at a salon in town 😱) I literally have long straight hair. My hair is the easiest to cut in the entire world. £65! I then went to ASDA and got some box dye for £6 and am going to do that later. I hopefully shouldn’t spend any money this week now until Friday. I have a job interview on Friday which is why I needed my hair doing. The only thing I might do is get my nails done.
This is so much better than my normal behaviour. Previously for every interview I’ve ever had I’ve bought a whole new outfit including shoes and handbag and had hair highlighted for £150 etc etc etc etc. Am trying so hard to rein in my spending.

Hi guys - joining for this as need to save big time! Went to play squash today and found the court on 'free mode' - oh the simple pleasure! Can I just ask those who have overdrafts - are they interest free and have you got savings elsewhere?

mamapants · 04/02/2018 14:42

unicorn I use box dye too. I got it coloured at hairdressers first time I did it but when I realised I'd need to do it every six weeks there was just no way I could justify the expense. Everyone compliments it anyway.

HolliJo · 04/02/2018 14:54

Today has been a nsd up to now and I’ve no plans to go out later either so no money spent. I do keep browsing on the next website though, I must refrain!! There’s not even anything I need it’s just boredom and habit I think.
@Gah81 I’m so stupid, I didn’t have pet insurance, I thought I couldn’t afford it, the bill was over 1000 Shock Lesson well and truest learnt there

chickenowner · 04/02/2018 14:56

I have a £500 interest free overdraft on my current account - but have never actually used it!

ivykaty44 · 04/02/2018 15:04

I think I have a good deal on my overdraft but don’t use it.

Well done on the haircut - so you got £50 for an hours waiting 😝 good stuff

I’ve gone out on my bike today and the last time was 30 December- when I put £20 in my cycling purse 😅

So me and dd2 are going out for lunch...does it count as a spend?

mamapants · 04/02/2018 15:06

Just a quick tip. I needed to sort out life insurance and there is currently an offer at moneysupermarket price comparison site, you get £125 voucher for argos/ next or m and S. Normally you get £75 on these offers. Only valid for today though.
Just thought I'd post incase it was any use to anyone.

MessySurfaces · 04/02/2018 15:25

Nearly an NSD here- used coop balance and 9p in coppers from the bottom of my bag to buy fancy rolls to go with home cooked lunch, to stop DS nagging for a cafe lunch. So not quite an essential spend, but also didn't cost any actual accounted for money...

Littlechocola · 04/02/2018 17:24

Ahh found you!
I’m in for another month.
I was interested in where I went wrong last month but because I recorded every single spend I could see that actually apart from two bottles of wine, car parts, insurance renewal and a mattress for ds it was actually an ok month. Just no money left!

I did think about stopping my national trust membership but for £9 a month for a family, even if we only use the car parks it saves lots.

I wanted to see if I could make dd’s phone contract cheaper (£10 a month more than mine!) but she’s in it until September sadly.
