I'm sort of relieved I'm working over half term - won't be trying to find things to do with a bored 6 year old (that will be the childminders job Grin) I find it so much easier to have no spend days when I'm at work!

AdoraBell · 30/01/2018 21:38

I’m in.

PirateYellowbelly · 30/01/2018 22:56

Just posted on the old thread forgetting there was a Feb one. My DS is 6. I work in a school so am off work with him. I'm actually less worried about the costs of entertaining him - he's happy with Lego and Netflix- but more concerned that I have the opportunity to go shopping. I am usually at work from 7.45am until 6.30pm which limits my spending opportunities but know I spend without thinking during the holidays. Think I will take out cash for the week and all the non-essentials will have to come from that.

purplepigs · 31/01/2018 11:25

I'm in!

MiltonBurnedTheBuildingDown · 31/01/2018 12:37

I spent a bit today. I've bought myself an iced coffee from tesco and DD a cream cake. I feel like crap and she's got cold. Bah, nevermind.

chickenowner · 31/01/2018 13:02

The main reason that I'm being frugal this month (and next too) is that I'm going to sell a house that I've been renting out. The tenants have now moved out and tomorrow it will be valued.

I feel like things are moving now. In the short term I have lost the rental income - although what with management fees, insurance, things like gas checks that have to be done, tax on the income, paying for repairs, paying the costs of looking for a new tenant and the month or two between tenants each time, I probably won't lose that much.

In the longer term I will have massively simplified my life and my finances, and will have a large pot of money to invest/spend as I decide.

It will be worth these few months of belt tightening!!

chickenowner · 31/01/2018 13:03

Oh, and another NSD here!!

At home today, so have been doing laundry, made a big pot of chilli and am now catching up on i-player.

I’m in.
Feeling quite pleased with myself. I was £500 overdrawn in December. I have managed to reign it in and am only £50 overdrawn this month.
I’m attributing this to doing a weekly shop in Aldi whilst my son is at football training rather than popping into Waitrose a few times a week and spending money on nothing!

ivykaty44 · 01/02/2018 06:28

Ok so penny pinch and a punch for the first of the month..

Today is a NSD in the planning

ivykaty44 · 01/02/2018 06:31

Chicken do you have to pay council tax on empty properties where you are? It’s what would put me off rental property all the utilities between tenant

PirateYellowbelly · 01/02/2018 06:57

Feeling motivated by the fresh start and new month. Should be a NSD. Also doing Sugar Free February so aiming to finish February with money to spare and feeling healthier!

fleaflyflo · 01/02/2018 07:26

Ridiculously large self-assessment tax
Bill now paid, deposit down on new rental, mortgage instalment (hopefully last one for this house) paid.

Only the 2nd day of month and already overdrawn by £250 Shock

This month needs to be the most frugal this family has ever known!

chickenowner · 01/02/2018 08:37

ivy

Yes, the rules have recently changed about council tax- landlords used to have 6 months with no council tax charge between tenancies, but no longer.

Luckily it's Band A in a cheap part of the country so won't be very much. Yet another reason to sell!!

MiltonBurnedTheBuildingDown · 01/02/2018 08:39

You can do it Flea!

I'm new to these threads. Does everyone share tips or is it just NSD, how you did and tips from other threads? I am super excited about this but don't want to derail.

Today will be a NSD. Pay went in. I moved rent over, going to draw out weekly travel and hoard the rest like a dragon on a pile of gold. I'm usually planning what I can spend, but not what I can save.

twinkledag · 01/02/2018 08:51

I'm in!

Have dinner out tonight with friends though so won't be an NSD.

I won't buy a flat white today even though I really want one

PollyShelbyLifeCoachServices · 01/02/2018 12:22

Penny pinch and a punch and I'm smashing out my first February NSD! Yey! Let's go gang...

mamapants · 01/02/2018 13:08

I think sharing tips is good milton

ivykaty44 · 01/02/2018 13:50

Twingle I have flat whites from Aldi or sainsbury at hand in a box - I have travel mug and make myself coffee at lunch and have this instead. That way it’s £2 per box and goes in the essentials shopping spend 😂

OP posts:
twinkledag · 01/02/2018 14:27

ivykaty - good idea, I'll look out for them!

I like the name Twingle! Might namechange Grin

Gah81 · 01/02/2018 14:45

NSD here so far. Though it is a struggle as am having a pretty stressful day at work and feel like a hot chocolate would make it so much better!

ivykaty44 · 01/02/2018 18:54

Sorry - I really should read peoples names 😅 I inadvertently changed rainboho... from something else

NSD here

Got essential food for supper tonight as very low on food and don’t want to shop till the weekend - veggie cottage pie tomorrow to use up some lentils so just need carrot and onion. Then there is a recipe for slow cooker dahl in the food house keeping site under vegetarian food so may try that and not shop till Sunday- it makes me use up food in the cupboards which makes life cheaper but is good for stock rotation 🙃

I’m in. We’ve had our ‘lightbulb moment’ About credit card debt so counting every penny. Didn’t leave housr today (work from home) so that’s a big help!

mamapants · 01/02/2018 18:58

Spent on a kindle book in the monthly offers.

PirateYellowbelly · 01/02/2018 19:33

Managed a NSD and avoided biscuits in the staff room. Result!

MiltonBurnedTheBuildingDown · 01/02/2018 19:45

NSD here, not bad for payday.
