Hi all!
Definitely up for February. My ‘no spend January’ was a big success. Had a few moments but it’s radically challenged my spending habits. We saved £200 in January. Pretty good going for someone who is usually dipping into savings by 10 days before pay day! Shock we agreed to buy a sunrise alarm clock (which is good actually) and split the rest for our ‘play money’. I don’t want to spend mine though so I’ve put it in a separate savings account Smile

NSD for me today. Tomorrow I’ll probably buy some fruit from the local farm shop but that should be all.

madamefraser · 01/02/2018 20:09

Hello have found you - and need to carry on in Feb . We have just changed our lecy and gas supplier so saving £25 per month !! Also my tax bill wasn't as bad as I expected. I have a weekend away coming up but have budgeted for extra spending Smile
Today spent £2.60 extra on chips for DD so not bad !!

I'm in. I was inspired by the January thread and did well, especially with grocery shopping - had one week where I only spent £20. I use YNAB and feel like I got on top of it in January and I almost fully understand it now Hmm Big spend in Jan was a weekend away with DS which cost over £700 including flights, hotel, spends etc. My aim is to save money on groceries as there is only me and 16yo DS, a freezer rammed to the hilt and cupboards full of packets. I should be able to spend minimal amounts on food but it doesn't turn out that way.

Today was essential spend only with £8 to the window cleaner. I did almost crack and call in at the chippie on the way home but didn't Halo

coffeecow · 01/02/2018 21:43

A good start for me! I put £20 petrol in my car but that's it!
Tomorrow is Friday and usually we would go to the cinema or a meal out but I'm binge watching The Crown on Netflix so I will continue that instead Grin

fleaflyflo · 01/02/2018 22:01

Trying to open thread with SoupDragons flapjack recipe but for some reason it won't let me.

Does anyone have the recipe? Another big fail in this house

AdoraBell · 01/02/2018 22:06

Ugh, failed at the the first hurdle. Overslept so no time for breakfast before Pilates, so by midday I was staaaaaarving. £6 on breakfast-lunch.

PootlesLovelyHat · 01/02/2018 22:09

Can I join?

I sort of did January without realising it. If I can continue into February and ideally March I will be back on track with savings and no overdraft.

We managed to do the whole of January with a weekly menu plan and it saved us a fortune. I'm sadly quite excited to continue into February. It's so much easier and whoever gets home first can start preparing tea.

I must admit that I've just made an Amazon order which included a top for me but I promise that will be the last until April.

I've worked out that I have £150 for food for the month for the 4 of us, I can then use the rest for savings/paying debts. We have loads in and I'm looking forward to the challenge. I also thought I had £10 in my wallet and it turns out it was £20, this was the best feeling ever Grin

fleaflyflo · 01/02/2018 22:09

Sorry wrong thread!

AdoraBell · 01/02/2018 22:35

Pootles, it’s great isn’t it? I found a twenty in a bag I hadn’t used in a couple of years 😁

Itis6oclocksomewhere · 01/02/2018 22:44

First day fail at no spending.
I'm also doing no sugar during February and that's gone much better. Although I'm not sure how well I'll hold up with that challenge!

1stMrsF · 01/02/2018 23:59

NSD! Yay! 1/28 is a good start Hmm

mamapants · 02/02/2018 07:48

Well my month not starting well so far.
Day 1: kindle book
Day 2: just ordered presents for kids birthday parties, three of them this month!
Tomorrow am doing a dinner party for some friends who are coming to stay so need to do a big shop later ready.
Sat and Sun will probably be no spend though - fingers crossed

Gah81 · 02/02/2018 09:16

January taught me that I am really good at cutting down the daily coffee/little treats etc. Where I struggle is clothes - and just one expensive dress (I am v good at not frittering away money on lots of cheap tops etc but show me a striking, stunning 'investment piece' and I am lost) obviously more than undoes the work of my lack of coffees/meals out.

Am aiming for a no clothes spend February. I have more than enough beautiful things for every possible occasion (and then some).

Any tips on how to resist beautiful clothes purchases please do share!

PootlesLovelyHat · 02/02/2018 09:27

NFSF - No Frivolous Spend February

Day 1 - diesel, Aldi, Amazon order
Day 2 - hopeful for a NSD

I've just deleted my Amazon app on my phone to stop temptation, it's too easy!

FaithEverPresent · 02/02/2018 11:19

Gah I am similar. I am resisting clothes by not browsing online or going in store! I’ve sent the clothes shops who email me to junk so I’m not lured in by them either! Last month I bought three clothes items - one was a replacement cardigan, one dress (using gift vouchers) and some running tights (again replacement). I also sold stuff so I said it was okay to buy but only if I had made money first!

PollyShelbyLifeCoachServices · 02/02/2018 12:14

NSD!👊🏼

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/02/2018 13:26

www.incompass.me.uk/downloadApp/

If you download this it pays out in Amazon vouchers. Handy for Christmas.

It made my iPad slow at first but it seems ok now.

ivykaty44 · 02/02/2018 13:44

NSD number 2
Popped to bank to get cash from my motoring account to cover MOT I paid for last month - so that’s my weeks spend sorted for next week 😂

Need carrots & onion on the way home for tonight’s supper - vegetarian cottage pie

Have worked out I can make vegetarian chilli with food in larder for tomorrow night so not going shopping till Sunday at this rate...

Have you tried writing ✍️ a 500 word essay on why you need each item of clothing before you purchase - otherwise you’re not allowed to 😁

Freudian delete any cards saved on Amazon etc, so you can’t checkout quickly, and put your cards in an awkward place.

So, if you have go into DC’s room, fe,to retrieve your card for that pink lava lamp how will that work at 3am?

Bad day. Takeaway, chocolate muffins and beers. Spent the afternoon at A&E (nothing was actually broken) and I got nothing done all day.
Fuck it, Kebab and beer tonight, NSD tomorrow.

Sophia1984 · 02/02/2018 18:02

Needed to exhaust toddler so he would nap early and not be up till midnight like the rest of the week...

So.. £2.60 bus pass and £2 for toddler group - no regrets! He had a nap at 12 so fingers crossed for tonight ...
