Browsing ELC website, can anyone recommend good first toys for Cagletini? She doesn't have anything yet but will need to open a few bits for Christmas (as much for the big Caglets' sake as anything really). I was thinking foot finders/wrist rattles perhaps, but there seem to be a few 3m+ things available. I don't like flashy beepy things (I know she will be given some which obviously we will use just the same but I don't plan to buy any myself yet IYSWIM). Any recommendations would be great!

How's annoying re the Vax. I'm loving our new cordless but it's early days yet

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/11/2017 17:54

Mieles are very good. Cheap online too.

Lonely does your deep fat fryer make the house smell? Even if I put it right under the extractor ours still smells.

I'd love to do beef dripping chips at home.

WreckTangled · 09/11/2017 17:57

My vax is cordless and I would love it if it didn’t keep braking Angry

How about a Sophie the giraffe?

Cag*, we had these when mine were little. Very pretty to look at and rattle around.

Lonely, I got Morrisons vouchers and they said I had to spend £90, when usually I spend between £60-£80, so I'm quite annoyed! I'm not spending £50+ to get £22 worth of vouchers! Hmm Not exactly frugal!

Wreck, great willpower, far better than me! Annoying about the Vax. We have one, our second one (the first blew up, which I'm sure was partly because now ex-h hoovered up tons of plaster dust and clogged it all up Confused) We have a cordless 2 in 1, which is good, but also have a really old Henry that's still going strong too.

Had to send DS1 to the shop for toilet roll and emergency chocolate (that time of the month!) Apart from that not been out so no spends.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 09/11/2017 18:31

Got all the bolding wrong there!

WreckTangled · 09/11/2017 18:33

Ffs dh went to get more flea stuff for the cat and the vets said there’s an outstanding payment of £28 and he just paid it without question! I always pay the bill when I leave so there’s no way we can owe anything AngryAngry

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 09/11/2017 19:29

That's annoying wreck , will you ring them?
I used to change dd quite frequently at night as she hated being wet and this would keep her awake.
Tired today work was busy and stressful, lots going on. Just had a row with dd over her attitude to homework being ridiculous. Seems to have made a difference as she is actually putting some effort in now Hmm
Nsd

LonelyOversharer · 09/11/2017 19:45

wreck vax have a brilliant replacement policy. Ours was used for 4 years, then dp set the motor on fire (filter misuse) and they replaced it without question. Like for like but brand new. We had to prove we bought it (costco duplicate reciept took a while), but then it came straight away.

I think they tailor the coupons my what in Morrisons, I haven't used them for ages, so I need to do £55 shops for 5/6 weeks, then £2 back for a joint of beef and something else between christmas and new year to make up the £31. Last year it was £65 shops but I used them a lot more. I find them so spendy, as I like all their products.

I got home and had a sleep. No idea why! So we have only just finished tea.

Girlie I’m going to phone first thing.

Lonely it’s got a years warranty which is almost up.

needastrongone · 09/11/2017 20:29

life - you and me both, I’m knackered from scrubbing my whole house to within an inch of its life. Sat writing this and watching shite TV. Cleaners have the week off, I need them to not do that too oftenGrin

My cleaners swear that my Miele is the best vacuum cleaner that they use in all of their houses.

Brill news about releasing some cash lonely, big relief.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 09/11/2017 20:34

Damn, I didn't know that about Vax Lonely. I wonder if they'll replace our old one even though it's long gone to the tip. It was only a couple of years old I think.

LonelyOversharer · 09/11/2017 21:20

We did have to send the old one back to vax. They paid postage. It was in such a state with brick dust and readybrek and allsorts jammed in it.

Done an hour on the turbo. Need another nap now.

Scary moment here. Picked ds out of his basket to change his nappy and he screamed and screamed. Sounded in pain. Hasn’t pooped all day. I rubbed his tummy and then he stopped crying (hooray!) but he went all pale cold and non responsive (not hooray) we called out of hours - while I was in the phone to them he perked up but they still suggested we took him down. We were there seen and back within 30 minutes. The dr we saw checked everything and he’s fine. Thinks he maybe had a bit of reflux which caused him to faint.

Bloody scary. Dh was awesome. I cried. But he is fine. Absolutely fine. Have come home and cried again. Because he is fine. Bloody babies. Why are they so scary.

MissingMo · 09/11/2017 21:49

@Em how terrifying! I hope you feel a bit better soon and I hope it was just a one off funny turn for ds.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 09/11/2017 21:52

Bloody hell Em that sounds terrifying. Babies are scary, I wonder if it was something like a febrile convulsion? My friends baby ds has them and that sounds really similar.

Hope you are o.kay Wine

ememem84 · 09/11/2017 21:56

Thanks mo it was scary. But he is absolutely fine.

bloody babies

ememem84 · 09/11/2017 21:58

girlie the dr likened it to that old “girls pe” trick - where you hyperventilate crouched over then stand up quickly to make yourself faint. He had pain, breathed through it but very quickly and then fainted. He came back super quick but it was scary.

LonelyOversharer · 09/11/2017 22:03

Oh em nothing more scary. I'm pretty good in a crisis, but when it's one of my own babies I go to pieces. You did the right thing getting him seen.

Hope you have a peaceful rest of night x

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/11/2017 22:04

That's absolutely terrifying em I'd be in tears too. Did they say if it will happen again?.

Loveabaconsandwich · 09/11/2017 22:04

Blimey em that would have been terrifying Flowers

DD1 had something similar which they called a rigor (sp?) episode.

I have just finished my work but feel much better having got it done and feel less stressed. Now just need to unwind to go to sleep Hmm

MyWhatICallNameChange · 09/11/2017 22:28

Oh em that's so scary. Hope you're all ok.

ememem84 · 09/11/2017 22:30

Dr said it’s a possibility. But if it does not to worry (easier said than done...) keep him upright, hold him close, keep him warm, etc. But he wasn’t worried. He said that it is common. But totally understands our fear.

I queried the one poop a day thing too. Apparently totally normal too. Sigh. He still hasn’t been. It’s nappy Russian roulette here now. Will I get lucky on the next change...

He’s sat with dh now. He’s had a feed and was just a wee bit sick - too much milky. He did this yesterday right before his giganta-poop. I’m in bed so it’s dhs responsibility for nappy changing until he goes to bed too...

I feel exhausted now.

ChristmasSeacow · 09/11/2017 23:22

A scare will definitely take it out of you Em, glad all is okay.

That's the kind of question I love Cag Wink. Not into beeping things here either. We have the blocks NameChange recommended and they are lovely but quite pricey. I recommend looking at the Jojo maman Bebe website for ideas as their selection of toys is well chosen. The Manhattan toy company stuff is very nice, for example this:

www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/skwish-classic-a7310.html

Also they do linking plastic rings - DD is quite keen on those st the moment. And both my DC have loved the Whoozit (if you go to Jojo website and search 'Manhattan' you'll find lots. Sometimes cheaper on Amazon but Jojo do offer codes too)

Also the 'that's not my...' books are quite good early on because of variety of textures. Supermarkets sometimes do a deal on them.

ELC-wise, we got good value out of the shape sorting bus and some basic instruments like rattles and a tiny tambourine. No interest whatsoever in wrist and ankle rattles here!

Lamaze toys are also excellent -,ELC sell some but there are loads more on Amazon. We have Freddie the firefly but there are also ones that stretch out on a string and 'jitter' back when you pull a bit.

Other nice brands are Sassy and Skip Hop.

I also got some good basic wooden toys (coloured wooden blocks, Ric Rac track thingy etc) from Sainsburys. Their own brand wooden toys are very lovely and great value.

I can't remember anything I've read as I am knackered - up from 2.30-5.30 am this morning. Off to sleep now, but must confess that I wandered into mothercare today and found lots of very beautiful clothes for DD. I didn't buy ALL of them but... I was a bit bad Blush. Eek.

100yearsdotcom · 10/11/2017 00:26

Em Flowers hope you're getting some sleep x

ememem84 · 10/11/2017 05:49

DS woke up about 45 minutes ago. Changed fed and is back to sleep. Me on the other hand....

I’ve opened the bedroom curtains so I can doze and watch the day brighten up.

All ok here. Ds is sleeping fine. I slept ok.

We were going to have lunch at the pub with df today. No ones mentioned it since last weekend will call him later and see if he still wants to.
