meadow take it easy. Sleep when you can. I found getting outside every day for a short walk at lunchtime was super helpful for combatting the tiredness.

MeadowHay · 12/10/2017 19:19

At the moment I am just as tired as I was before, no more so, as I already struggle with fatigue as you guys know. I do think on the one hand that I have a head start on some of the pregnancy symptoms given I already have health problems so I already have coping strategies for things if that makes sense? For example I think I already have morning sickness even though it's earlier than most people, had awful nausea the last few days and threw up this morning before I left for work and then was retching a bit earlier but as I already have acid reflux this happens to me every month or so anyway so I'm used to it and can get on with things quickly afterwards and know how to take care of myself. But it is super early so things may well get worse/harder over the next few weeks, eek...

Wreck Hunger I definitely have Blush. I just feel like I want to eat non-stop at work atm!

SunnyLikeThursday · 12/10/2017 19:22

It's impressive that teachers can manage it definitely.

Though it says something about my Beaver helper friends that one was late because of being stuck on a train back from London, and one was missing because of having had an epileptic seizure directly before we were due to start. It takes a lot to stop them getting to meetings.

That's nice that so many are visiting Cambridge. There's a lot to do here. We have a good tourist office that's worth a visit: www.visitcambridge.org/

I think I have caught something from one of my Beavers. I have a permaheadache that's going round here at the moment. Apparently it lasts five days. Woohoo!

Our pediatric dentistry saga kicks off again tomorrow with a visit to the NHS Community Dental place. We finally made it to the top of this part of the queue. I'm hoping my 5-day headache goes away over night.

ChristmasSeacow · 12/10/2017 19:34

I am within easy day trip distance of Cambridge but haven't been in ages. I must do that - it's a lovely city (though my ultimate loyalties lie with Oxford Wink).

I too have massive admiration for teachers. I think what strikes me is the need to keeep your energy up in the classroom, day in, day out, regardless of what's going on at home, minor illnesses hangovers etc. And the difference a good one makes - they are never forgotten.

needastrongone · 12/10/2017 19:36

Sunny Thank you for the link, that's very kind. Insider knowledge always useful too. Fair point re the helpers at Beavers, I was projecting miserable experiences about parent helper being somewhat unreliable onto your situation. It's fab that you have such stalwart and committed folk attached to the unit. Lets hope it's not a 5 day headache.

Girlie/Fluffy, thing is, the applicant doesn't really meet the criteria we apply for able bodied folk, ie being able to run about 5 miles (any pace). Done 3 park runs, total. Such a hard one, the qualified guide runner would have to basically run walk each route each week, giving up his run, and that's a lot to ask. Plus, how on earth do you risk assess constantly changing routes? But the urge to help and include is strong too so we've asked for UKA guidance on the matter.

£60 dog groomers
£5 on a massage from an apprentice at the beauty salon.
£16 PT session.

needastrongone · 12/10/2017 19:37

Any tips for what I might do Christmas?

needastrongone · 12/10/2017 19:38
  • sorry, phone posted too soon, when I am in Cambridge I mean. Off the track stuff is always interesting.
needastrongone · 12/10/2017 19:39

You are having such a tough time with little DD Seacow, hang in there, 'this too shall pass' etc. Poor little thing. Wine is good.

needastrongone · 12/10/2017 19:40

Em You are exactly as I imagine you!

SunnyLikeThursday · 12/10/2017 19:43

Christmas we're in easy reach of London too, but almost no one here ever actually goes. It's odd that.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/10/2017 19:54

That's a tough one need. Advice from the governing body is a good idea. Though I'd they don't meet the criteria then surely its a no, unless they are asking for help to get to the criteria?
I would never be a teacher 25 kids once a week is enough sometimes twice if I stay for cubs.
That is a giant beer em.

Cagliostro · 12/10/2017 19:55

Shit. How much does it cost to get scratches out of cars? Kids knocked into the neighbors on their bikes. Complicated by the fact DD has said one of them (certajnly NOT all) was another kid that did it. No idea what to do apart from wave goodbye to our savinfs

Cagliostro · 12/10/2017 19:55

Savings*

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/10/2017 19:56

Never been to Cambridge.
Nsd today after all.

I'm going back to my substantive grade next year. Can't decide to ask for my pt hours back or stay ft. It's a £9k pay do to go pt and £5 to stay ft. Loads less stress thought ie none.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/10/2017 19:57

Cag, depends how deep the scratches are and where. Can you see the metal underneath or is it a scuff that might buff out.
Cost £250 for my bumper but it was pretty bad and the wing had a crimp too. Another car but me though

ememem84 · 12/10/2017 20:00

Looking forward to my alone time in town tomorrow. The boss invited me to lunch too so I’ll meet him for a bit which will be nice to catch up.

Dh is looking forward to his alone time with ds. Yay!

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/10/2017 20:03

Who wanted a salt rock code. Look on the Christmas thread at 16.30 there is a referral code. Or I could refer you if you want

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/10/2017 20:08

Cousin in law claimed off his house insurance when his kid damaged a car.

Or tell them it wasn't just your child.

Cagliostro · 12/10/2017 20:11

It was between two cars. I'm such an idiot letting them go round there, it's too tight a space. Took the kids to apologise and the second neighbour says he didn't notice any scratches, I'm not sure if that's because he's not so bothered (the other neighbour had only told his wife before) but I have said to tell us if it is a problem. But the other car is bad :(

Cagliostro · 12/10/2017 20:12

fluffy do you mean it was your cousins kid who damaged someone else's property but your cousin claimed on his own? That might work

Cagliostro · 12/10/2017 20:12

She reckoned her own car insurance wouldn't cover it

Cagliostro · 12/10/2017 20:19

A friend told me about a company called Chips Away, who do repairs on stuff like that rather than respraying whole panels etc

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/10/2017 20:22

I took mine to a local spray shop who, looking at the other cars, just do the bits needed. It's really depends on what the damage is like.
Chips away might be a good place to start for a price. Do you have a Facebook page of local mums, some one may be able to recommend a place

Laska5772 · 12/10/2017 20:22

ok so I have my new laptop /tablet up and running! and have landed in the new century by finally given up windows 7 ..

Am very pleased with it .. Have had a go at using it as a tablet (watched Robert plant and Alt-J 6 music concerts ) but so far ( as I've been setting it up ) more as a laptop. ..

Also blitzed my home desk today.. so feeling virtuous.

But heck what a spendy week. Once I'd bought the machine and the peripherals my savings have now halved which is v frightening .. it s a lesson in saving for rainy day though for me , before I found this thread I'd have had to put all this on credit..

We also had to pay for out yearly car ferry pass (you people living on 'North Island' (as we call it here) at least don't have that , but Em will understand he pain of that.. We only buy 20 at a time but its still over £500. (and a lot more for Em I am sure)

them mums birthday.. I have bought her a nice handbag from JL , but I am quite prepared that she wont like It !! (she's 92 and has everything - so ill forgive her if she doesn't like it) .

Haven't had time to read back much or look at more Florence but thanks for ideas !

meadow I was on an extended sailing trip when DS conceived.. The only reason I knew was that I kept falling asleep! Missed the very thing I'd been looking forward to most . The tricky bit around Cape Finnisterre. Then I knew for sure... ..

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/10/2017 20:23

Cag, take photos of the damage your dd said she did. And the rest she said she didn't or looks older
