I always found things chipped in the sink. Or I smashed them against the taps.

ChristmasSeacow · 31/08/2017 23:25

Cag I forgot to say re. Science gifts, how about a microscope?

100yearsdotcom · 31/08/2017 23:58

Found you! And just about caught up! Posting to mark my place so I can go to sleep now! Grin

Cagliostro · 01/09/2017 00:58

Gaaaah can't sleep. DD was asleep by 9.30 and I dozed off a bit before DH got home, but now am wide awake feeling a bit weird, slightly heartburny... yay. Baby is kicking so much it's making me feel weird. Calm down in there FFS. :o

Seacow that's a good idea Thanks in fact it was a hit present last year! :o Currently has a slide in it with our latest sample, a tiny translucent dead frog Blush. Errrm just to clarify it was found dead, it wasn't a science related sacrifice!

I'm really glad she is interested in science though. She struggles a lot academically but if she can be passionate about something it has to help. We did photosynthesis today.

They do keep mentioning hexbugs too so I think that might be the toy part of the presents. I'm very glad DD is still into toys so far, they seem to grow up so fast these days!

Oooh I've also discovered that Phoenix Comics do books of their various characters. So might get some of them, probably used copies if they are significantly cheaper. Although there's a scientist edition of her favourite "corpse talk" (kind of horrible histories type thing) released before Christmas so may preorder that one.

Spendy day - added £166 on new notebook laptop thingy and case. Will just be used for Word etc (it has Office preinstalled) and internet/learning stuff with Caglets.

ChristmasSeacow · 01/09/2017 03:49

Ah, I thought she'd like a microscope Wink

SunnyLikeThursday · 01/09/2017 06:11

Thanks for mentioning the Dun Elm sale Girlie. Our curtains need replacing since I shrank them i the wash. I was thinking I ought to look out for the Dun Elm sale.

Ds is worried about going back to school, but we've visited a behaviour person and she says he hears more slowly than other kids. We've been looking and she's definitely right. I've written to the headteacher to ask if they can help with that. I really hope they can. It's rubbish to be permanently confused in school.

Cag I ought to be able to think of science presents but I'm drawing a blank still. Sorry about that.

We just bought ds an adding machine off ebay and he's chuffed to bits with it. My db also recently bought him a Japanese abacus and a totally incomprehensible book about it. Ds took to it like a duck to water and is really enjoying it. It's not exactly mainstream fun though is it?

Do you think she might enjoy an arduino? It's the simplest level of computer programming and very doable. The ardx kit is very good and the instructions are super-easy to follow:

There's a really good offer with one of the over 50 life insurance companies, buy a policy & get £75 Amazon/marks and Spencer voucher.

The first months free, pay the next two months and get a voucher. Then cancel the policy.

I think it's sun life. You just need an adult over 50 in the house.

WreckTangled · 01/09/2017 06:58

Girlie you get 20% nhs discount in Nando's.
I find Wilkos good value for dinner plates etc.

I need to go food shopping this morning. Am
Also going to bills for breakfast because they offered me a free one after I complained that they ran out of pancakes!

ememem84 · 01/09/2017 07:14

As it's sept 1 I thought I'd post my Account balances

My ac: £237
Joint ac: £1461.12
Penny ac: £61.79 (once baby arrives this will be transferred to an account in his name)

Money in purse: around £15 including change.

Spends today should be no more than £4
Mortgage payment of £1200 ish comes out on Monday. We bought petrol last night so that's coming out of joint account too (although no idea how much as dh did it - usually around £37 for a full tank and it lasts a month or thereabouts).

I'm just getting up. Was woken at 539 by catface. She (I think) slept on the bed for most of the night with us. Until dh moved then she bounced off jumping on me as she left. Eugh. He's feeding her and talking to her now. She's meowing at the rain.

Goodbye summer. Hello autumn.

We have 28 days (including today) until due date. Shock that is going to go fast!

I'm getting my hair done tomorrow - courteously of dh. I was going to just get a trim but he said he'd pay and for me to get whatever I want. So we're adding colour. I think I'm going for something like one or both of these. Naturally my hairs sort of in the middle. So it could take it.

Could be any time em.

I'm going to focus on food this month and allocate £100 a week for food and meal plan.

WreckTangled · 01/09/2017 07:28

My hair is like the second one em but it took two separate appointments to get the ends that blonde.

Cagliostro · 01/09/2017 07:49

September first and the little plug in heater is ON. Soooo cold this morning! Really really hoping that by this time next year we will live in a house with proper working heating. Just having an actual radiator would feel like such a luxury!

Sunny thank you I'll check that out. Although we have a microbit we haven't used yet Blush (generous gift from techy friend). Haven't done any computer stuff at all really, but Scratch is one of the top priorities for when the new laptop arrives. I have the Usborne Scratch book but not sure if we should try Scratch Jr first?

Wreck I hope for Bill's sake they have pancakes this time Wink!

ememem84 · 01/09/2017 07:51

life I know! It's scary but exciting! We're sort of prepared now. We have the basics - somewhere for him to sleep, a few outfits for him to wear, nappies, car seat etc. So if it was to happen within the next few days we'd be fine. Disorganised as things are still in boxes not washed etc. But fine.

wreck I'm going to show both to my hairdresser and see what she thinks. Ideally a combination of the two. I like the idea of having blonde/caramel/gold/pink running through. Fairly natural looking. Easy to manage.

Hair is just under shoulder length at present so don't want much more cut off. Need to be able to tie it up. Dm keeps saying I should go for a pixie cut because then Abby won't grab it but if I do that I'd have to wash it every day - I can go 4 days at present without needing to wash my hair. And I'm assuming that with a newborn that's not something I'll be able to do often...!

SunnyLikeThursday · 01/09/2017 08:03

Cag Regular scratch is fine. We learned it from this boxed set of books, it's really easy to follow:

www.amazon.co.uk/Carol-Vorderman-Computer-Coding-Collection/dp/0241288606/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=BZK87B7MRBFEWENYB69Y&tag=mumsnetforum-21

Caveat is that ds loved it and worked independently on it for hours, while I found it dull as ditchwater, so it might appeal more to some kids than others.

Ds enjoyed one of these recently - hatch your own butterfly at home. Might that be a thing? www.insectlore.co.uk/

This clock kit has also been popular in our house: www.amazon.co.uk/Amazing-Build-Happy-Puzzle-Company/dp/B00CNB02PW?tag=mumsnetforum-21

SnugglySnerd · 01/09/2017 08:26

I was thinking about some of you last night as I know some of your dcs are good with Lego. I got interested in Lego Masters on C4. Is anybody else watching? It was fab. Such clever people especially the kids.

Did big supermarket shop last night. £110 but included nappies, formula etc and some sleep suits for DS.

Today should be NSD.

Happy September everyone. Love love love the autumn!

SunnyLikeThursday · 01/09/2017 08:58

That lego programme sounds good snuggly. I'll look it up.

needastrongone · 01/09/2017 09:33

The downside of having older DC is that you quickly forget at what age DC are interested in stuff.

snuggly I might have the JO book....Grin. Actually, it's not one I've looked at for a while, thanks for the suggestion.

fluffy, I've looked into The Ordinary too, obviously the prices make it attractive. It's the SPF element that makes me hesitate. I'm in and out of the sun too much to be absolutely sure I would have enough SPF on all the time. It's serious stuff. I'm sticking with N&F.

Em, I have thick dark hair, I lost so much post birth it frightened me. It's normal apparently, just giving you the heads up.

Today is going to be spendy. This is when having ponies hits home. We've got 2 at the minute.

£90 Farrier
£90 equine dentist
£15 wormer.
£30 feed shop.

needastrongone · 01/09/2017 09:36

Hummus was lovely, there's loads though!

I've got the Jack book too fluffy, it's another one I have looked at for a while. Thanks.

needastrongone · 01/09/2017 09:38

Enjoy having DH around seacow, he will have a new appreciation of what you do at home by the end of his leaveSmile

Cagliostro · 01/09/2017 10:03

Thanks for pressie ideas :)

I have heard good things about the Lego programme, also I remember some of you watched that BBC thing about gender - I was wondering is that appropriate for DD to watch do you think?

ememem84 · 01/09/2017 10:09

need I have ridiculously thick hair anyway. Not in a thick manageable glossy way either sadly. It's thick, wavy, has a mind of its own and the minute rain hits it...poor! Frizz. It doesn't seem to have gotten any thicker or more manageable though. Everyone said it would.

I had heard it may fall out. Hopefully not too much....

needastrongone · 01/09/2017 10:15

Snap em, exactly the same!!!

Loveabaconsandwich · 01/09/2017 11:19

Unfrugal fail. Decided to open a bottle of Obsession perfume from PIL which I got for my birthday without sniffing it out in a shop first. And I don't like it. Will now have to go on eBay for a fraction of what is worth sealed Sad

AuditAngel · 01/09/2017 11:28

Hello all, I'm sorry I keep disappearing, life seems too busy to keep up at the moment.

I'm on holiday at the moment in Spain with the DC. Unfortunately, due to problems at work, DH was unable to get away. So, holiday this year has been very different.

We come home on Tuesday, for the girls to return to school on Wednesday and DS on Thursday. I'm also back to work on Wednesday.

DS and DD1 are straight back into their West End show on Wednesday, DD2 has her own professional show the following week. Will be a bit mad, especially as mum isn't driving yet following surgery.

ememem84 · 01/09/2017 11:38

Ooh obsession love I'm not a fan of that either. Far to strong for my liking.
Did I dream it or is there a perfume thread on here? Maybe you could swap it for something?
