cag that lunch does sound lovely

Envy Em.. My nan had a little boat when I was a child .. but all she ever could catch was plaice it seems, so we ate a lot of flatfish ( oh and cockles.. I used to like going cockling with her).

However, we always had lots of crab and mackerel on summer holidays in Devon. We eat more fresh fish now as we have had several fab fish shop recently opened here selling local catch . For some reason until recently not much fish was ever landed on the island and it would all go over to Portsmouth or we had to go over to Ventnor for the nearest place . .

I have such fond memories of dad coming home from fishing (he'd be away sometimes for weeks at a time). One particular trip he brought back three spider crab (mmm). We put them on the kitchen floor and raced them to the other end. They were then turned into dinner and then crabby sandwiches for school. Mmmm

mammymammyIRL · 10/09/2017 19:53

Laska sorry to hear of your family hassles this weekend

€50 spent on colour run but in aid of hospital ds had his surgery in when he was one so money well spent.

I'm thinking of bed soon, not sleeping great these day, intermittent nightmares, dh induced SadAngry

No morrisons in roi seacow hope you get those super cute leggings Smile

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 10/09/2017 20:04

Its annoying I can't check online Seacow for those trousers, not sure when I will get to Morrisons maybe next wend. Good luck to your little boy tomos, I really hope he gets on o.kay, yy to water bottle. Is he there all day tomos or is it a gradual start?

Laska families are a nightmare, I have separated parents and the family politics is ridiculous at times Wine Gin

We have just sat down, had a busy day in the end with baking and cooking for most of it! Pleased though, going to freeze some of my bread rolls and half the banana cake, freezer now looking pretty full. Have also tidied up and tried to get myself straight before going back to work tomos. Will be the first time dd has to leave after me and get home after me, eek!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 10/09/2017 20:06

My thermostat has to read 18-19 degrees before I will put the heating on, because I have been baking so much today its currently reading 23 Shock nice and toasty.

Laska5772 · 10/09/2017 20:10

Heating! No. Put on a jumper.
Forgot sponsored a mate £20 for the great North run

LonelyOversharer · 10/09/2017 20:32

Our heating kicked in by itself the other morning, twas 13° Shock it's cold up north. Always pleased when it comes on by itself after being off for months though.

Yes please life that's a bag and a half of licorice about two days worth then! , online code would be great, as a trip to Windemere would bankrupt me.

Must get some work done tonight, but have been playing casino slots. Won back £24 of £40 I lost yesterday lay betting...don't ever lay bet. My fish tank looks very cheerful, need another load of fish though, still looks very sparse. Might look in Dobbies tomorrow, as going over to costco, so will be passing (sort of).

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/09/2017 20:32

Our lounge has three external walls & patio doors, heatings been on here. I do want a heated throw when lidl have them again.

Hi all. Just checking in after a rather spendy weekend, mix of good and bad spending:
£57 Ocado - some convenience type food in there but it's kind of the least worst option - struggling too much with getting back from work late, house and garden keeping me busy and fitting in running training to be able to cook every day
£5 outdoor swimming on Saturday - good spending 😊
£1.50 pastry and a newspaper after my swim and parkrun - bad, but I felt this was deserved!
£9 stocking up on gels for marathon and training runs - fairly essential
£20 massage - extravagant but I have awful back pain and it seems to be helping
£5 bits and pieces in Waitrose (bad)
Nearly £300 on work clothes. Argh! I won't keep all of them and I desperately need a new suit as the skirt on one of mine keeps ripping and the other is not that smart. So expensive though. could do with new shoes as well!

I haven't really managed to keep track so sorry for ignoring everyone's news. Will try to do better this week, along with less frittering.

ememem84 · 10/09/2017 20:45

Back in bed here. All cozied up with book camomile tea and catface. ive properly cleaned and moisturised my face too so hopefully I should look all nice tomorrow. Counting down - 5 days left of work. Eeek.

Have been feeling very heavy/stretchy today. But this is normal according to the midwife who gave us the tour of the mat unit. Figured while there I'd ask the questions I had.

Dh has picked the chickens (I didn't know he'd cooked 2. They were on a twofer at the coop -£7 for the two of £5 each apparently) so we've got loads left over for sandwiches wraps salads fajitas soups freezer etc. He's also made stock with the bones. It's sadly not the fabled mumsnet chicken as we cheated and bought two but it's going to go a long way.

CollieBobs · 10/09/2017 20:47

We put thermal plasterboard on our living room walls as it's got 3 external walls and was ruddy cold all year round. Worked a treat! Hopefully the heating won't be on until it's a tad frosty Smile (I have awful Raynaud's)

Laska we have awful family politics too, rant away :)

Tomorrow is a LSD. Hospital parking is our expense of the day but unfortunately it canget pretty expensive damn quickly

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/09/2017 20:53

That sounds so cosy.

Holly Convenience foods cheaper than a takeaway though.

ememem84 · 10/09/2017 21:04

I usually don't put the heating on until January. However may have to rethink that this year with baby boys arrival.

Loveabaconsandwich · 10/09/2017 21:29

We had the heating on this afternoon as DP needed to fix the smart heating which wasn't working after changing broadband supplier . It now will only come on when it dips to a certain temperature or I override it

HollyTheHarrier · 10/09/2017 22:43

Fluffy that's what I was thinking. And also saves me popping into a late night supermarket to get a quick meal, and coming out with a whole load of rubbish!

I've had my heating on a bit today 😳 It was 16 degrees when I got up.

Need to iron some clothes, put shopping away and make sandwiches for tomorrow. Tuna sweet corn mix is prepared so just need to stick it in a roll.

yumyumpoppycat · 10/09/2017 23:45

Thanks for all the welcomes Grin what a lovely busy thread is, not miserly at all!

I am on here as trying to resist all those unnecessary purchases that add up, in particular my weakness of lattes! Going to shop at Lidl whenever practical and try to keep a close eye on fridge and cupboards so not wasting food and money. I am also on a mission to try not to buy clothes for myself this year. I think all I have bought since jan are an emergency cardigan and vest when I spilt a bloody latte down my top at work! I am cheating a bit as my dsis gave me a big bundle of her old clothes.

I have shopaholic christmasholic tendencies and have also just joined the Christmas bargain thread so it is going to be a tricky balance!

ChristmasSeacow · 11/09/2017 00:07

I thought about putting the heating on today but then DD warmed me up. She has her uses.

Loveabaconsandwich · 11/09/2017 00:09

Can't sleep. But on the plus side when I had to get up at midnight to turn off the alarm that DD2 kindly set, I think that counts as my turn of getting up in the night Grin

holly as fluffy said, planned convenience food is cheaper than a takeaway or lots of little top up shops

ChristmasSeacow · 11/09/2017 00:17

Oh and Life thanks so much for checking Morrisons for the elusive trousers!

thewaitresses · 11/09/2017 06:12

Morning 😊! I was feeling pretty miserable yesterday moneywise... weekend of spending from being over-committed to things (friend's birthday dinner and annual meet up with family).

I need some better ways of politely declining until we adjust to our new childcare and mortgage commitments and my part-time income.

Anyway new week, fresh start. We have plenty of food in so I'm aiming for LS Mon-Thurs (think the only thing will be £6 childminder on Thursday)
I'm also going to look at commitments for the term ahead to either change plans or warn people that we're feeling a bit skint!

mammymammyIRL · 11/09/2017 06:12

Morning everyone Smile
We've our heating on a bit this week but that's because our boiler was broken for a month & dh has been tinkering with the new to us control panel all week. I got a manual for it online yesterday because he was driving me mad, which apparently couldn't be got.
We'd an open fire yesterday too, but we save our own turf so it's not an extra weekly expense now.
It's wet, wild & windy here today.

Have upped my cleaners hours to 2.5 to include my own bedroom, increase of €6.50 weekly.

Fluffy oh it's tempting

Holly those expenses sound reasonable.

Em enjoy the countdown at work, have you most things handed over now. Did the junior who wasn't completing tasks correctly improve?

I made quiche yesterday using 10 eggs, 2 tubs of cottage cheese, ham that I'd slow cooked, sad looking spring onions & pastry which I bought in Aldi weeks ago. It was lush & I ate way too much of it.
We've a glut of eggs at the moment. Hens lay 8 per day.

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/09/2017 06:15

It's ok, if it's not raining I will check the one near work. If it's raining your will have to wait as I walk over.

mammymammyIRL · 11/09/2017 06:15

Thewaitress can you arrive late to an event say it's lunch & only arrive in time for dessert, by prior arrangement not just turn up late I mean?
I was meant to go to dhs nephews 18th on sat eve meaning €20 in a card plus cost of card, however dhs friend arrived unannounced & I couldn't go, saved me €'s!

WreckTangled · 11/09/2017 06:34

Morning. Will be a nsd unless I buy lunch from Tesco because I haven't had time to make any. I could still make some. Hmmm. Ds woke at 5:30 but came in with us. Both dc have back to school colds so he's struggling to sleep.
