Hi Laska

Laska5772 · 23/05/2017 20:21

I missed why you sent the laundry out mammy has your machine had it?

ememem84 · 23/05/2017 20:22

laksa I love the market too. Next time you or any of your guys come here be sure to check out the cafe in the middle of the "main" market. The cake (esp the Victoria sandwich) is to die for £1.50 for a slice as big as your head!!

There's a new Portuguese cafe in the fish market here. Essentially you can buy fish from the market take it there and they'll cook it. £15 for salad, chips, milo, rice and a wine/beer. Plus whatever you paid for your fish. Yummmmm

we are truely spoiled here food wise. On Friday we're having a tapas style dinner. Dh is going to the Italian deli in the market and will pick up some tasty treats. Mmm. I'm buying lunch tomorrow. May stop there for some tomato sausage pasta. £4.50 but worth every penny a) you get loads b) super tasty and c) they say nice things in Italian. (And d) around Christmas time - pannetone...!!!!)

Laska5772 · 23/05/2017 20:24

Hi P1nk remind me what thread we have both been on? need and I hand out on S&B ( and spend money!) and ive been on various 5:2 diet threads over the years.. or was it here?

P1nkP0ppy · 23/05/2017 20:29

Probably S&B *Laska, the beauty stash horders one I think.... It's truly embarrassing me when I look at my hoard! Unfortunately that thread has a distinctly adverse affect because I am drawn to trying products I've never heard of before ☹️😊

ememem84 · 23/05/2017 20:33

p1nk ah I'm on that thread too. It's a nightmare. The temptation to buy new stuff.... oooooof

LonelyOversharer · 23/05/2017 20:33

Thankyou all for being so nice about my dress. I'm really pleased with it. Sewing is straightforward...you tube totorial to remember how to thread the thing up, the just practice on some nice, non stretchy material. I have 'lost' they're around here somewhere all but the most basic foot for my machine, so use that for everything. But I haven't made any clothes for about 6 years. So this has been fun.

I bought my fabric online, I ordered some samples (free bar postage) to get a proper look, and ordered enough in the nicest piece. Including the zip, and some interfacing, it's come in at about £32. Not too bad really (my shoes were double that, but I'll wear them to death). Plus I've enough material left for a short, full skirt, or possibly culotte type things.

LonelyOversharer · 23/05/2017 20:37

em for some reason we have always called the colour of you skirt "mango-tango" not sure why, when it's coral!

Laska5772 · 23/05/2017 20:39

Em there use to be a great Portugese cafe at the top of the town ive looked on the map but cant work it out maybe New St /Val Plaisant?

.. Right basic place it was but really good ..I swear the proprietor was always drunk and the cook was his wife , but you only heard her, never saw her.. She'd sent the food down in a dumb waiter and they would yell at each other through it . It was always full of Portuguese so when we first went we reckoned it had to be good . Their Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá was the best Ive ever had.. and he would ply you with wine.. but the bill was ridiculouly cheap (i doubt he ever made much money) ,We went a couple of years running but sadly when we last went back it had gone - taken over by a Polish cafe.. Sad maybe he retired back to Portugal.. he did want to ..

BTW Ive been to that market cafe.. but maybe in its earlier incarnation. .. Not been to Jersey now for 8years.. we last went for my 50th . Must go back soon

Laska5772 · 23/05/2017 20:47

Country life update..
They are cutting the spring grass here , and we are still getting huge tractors and trailers going up and down our road , this late in the evening.. perhaps they are on their way home now... I m thinking of an early night..

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/05/2017 20:55

Lonely It's easy to you because you have skill. I'd be a tearful mass of frustration & ruined material Sad Grin

ememem84 · 23/05/2017 20:55

laksa I work on new street there are a couple of great cafes there. But generally speaking my rule is if I want a take away coffee go to a Portuguese place. Best coffee.

My dad swears by one place at the very top of town (snow hill) makes the corner. He goes there for his coffee and sometimes a cheeky bacon roll on his way to the library or a cheeky custard tart on the way back. Mmm.

The polish cafe near my work is awesome. I wandered in for the first time a while ago and had no idea what I wanted. Ended up with pierogi. And a slice of cheesecake. Polish cheesecake is the absolute best.
Some people here are super racist about the Portuguese and polish communities here. Lots of "they don't belong here" etc. I love how our little island is so diverse. It's great.

MeadowHay · 23/05/2017 21:02

Em Hmm, I can't decide if I like the colour or not...if Wreck wants it she can have it as I dither too much. If she doesn't want it I'll take it if it's only going to go out anyway? I'm not sure if it will fit as I'm usually an 8 in skirts but I could maybe get it altered if it's too big (why am I normally an 8 in skirts of all types, but a 10 in jeans, can someone explain?!).

Enough revision for today now. So tired. Exam tomorrow morning but although it's not my last it's the last humungous four hour law one so be soo glad when it's done.

Has anyone else been watching the fake trial programme on Channel 4? Not sure what I was expecting from it but...meh. Although I guess it is interesting (and frustrating) to see the 'jurors' chatting about the case. I love the defence barrister.

Laska I love that floaty skirt. Has a vintage-y feel to it.

Em Tbh I thought Jersey would be super white Blush! You're making me hungry with the food posts! I'd love to go and visit sometime, some of my relatives went a few years ago and had a fab time.

mammymammyIRL · 23/05/2017 21:20

Laska I agree with you, I wore a tshirt today because it's summer Smile and survived Smile

Ds has just pulled out photos of a holiday myself & dh & dss were on in 2009? And I'm still wearing a sleeveless jumper that's in the photos Blush

Hi P1nk
Laska washing machine malfunctioned fri dh still hasn't looked at it, think when I mention how much this cost he might fix it Smile

I want to visit Jersey now Smile I went there in 2001 to break up with an Irish boyfriend who was working there & had no intention of coming home to me Hmm

Meadow I'm always smaller size in skirts/dresses than trousers or jeans 👖

Amen need via trump.

Lovely dress you clever person.

Catching up slowly. £100 in sainsbury on a school uniform for next year as away in august.

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/05/2017 21:26

Thanks need, have pm you my address

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/05/2017 21:31

If you email ultra sun and explain allergies they will send you free samples. Takes a while though. My DS was ok with boots own make and couldn't get away with alot of brands.

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/05/2017 21:40

Nice skirt em, not my colour though.
Nice top from sainsbury but I can't wear strappy.

P1nkP0ppy · 23/05/2017 21:47

If anyone would like my Lego cards please do let me know; I'd be very happy to pop them in the post.

Cagliostro · 23/05/2017 22:28

Have been purposely ignoring the news today. Just beyond awful. Trying to carry on as normal

Holiday paid for now. Had a splurge on dinner just me and the Caglets although actually being harvester it was barely more expensive than a takeaway and so much nicer. And they messed up my order which resulted in me getting food to bring home for DH when he gets in from work :o it was lovely just us three chatting about such topics as echolocation and what happens when you race a cheetah with a Ferrari. (Marred slightly by the couple at a nearby table arguing the whole time because he ordered her the wrong food!) Nice way to round off the day, we didn't get home till nearly 10 Blush but oh well no school tomorrow :o I had forgotten to do the tesco order though so need to do that now!

HollyTheHarrier · 23/05/2017 22:48

Checking in to record a couple of days' spending:
Yesterday £2 on pre running club snacks and £4.30 on a small top up shop afterwards
Today £7 on lunch (went out with team) and £9 on some ham, tomatoes and cheese for tea and an ice cream as the weather was so good. Feels expensive for what I got.

Horribly sad about the Manchester attack. Heart breaking for the victims and everyone affected whether physically or mentally. And worried for repercussions on Muslims who have done nothing to deserve it 😔

Meadow I admit I probably made assumptions too. I hadn't thought about it but was surprised when you said you were a Muslim so must have assumed on some level. Best of luck with your final exams 🍀

Lonely beautiful dress, you are clever.

Em love a good wardrobe clear out.

Is anyone good at skin care? I'm awfully spotty 😳 And can't figure out how best to fix it. I would have thought I'd be too old for this by now!

SunnyLikeThursday · 24/05/2017 02:58

Lonely I like sewing too but I really struggle to get good stretch fabric. I used to travel a lot for work and the only place I've found really good stretch fabric is a shop called Hickeys in Dublin. I've made fantastic things from their material, but I don't get to Dublin so often now, which is really frustrating. Have you ever managed to buy stretch fabric online?

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/05/2017 06:18

Yes pleased p1nk. I will pm you my address

Loveabaconsandwich · 24/05/2017 06:38

Put my alarm on to go to work early on the basis DD2 would wake me anyway. At 5.50 when I left the house she was fast asleep. Typical.

Anyway last day at work today for a whole week and tomorrow I have a day off to myself. I should cancel it or move it to next week as it's half term no chance

lonely I love the description mango-tango- I'm waiting for an opportunity to use it. I used to sew my little dollies clothes when I was younger, maybe that will be my retirement hobby. So impressed with your sewing.

Left my travel mug at work so no tea this morning on my travels

Seminar today is likely to tell me that my dream of retiring by 50 is never going to happen!

Will write to ultra sun life thank you for the tip. Was also considering returning a bag of popcorn as it was full of unpopped kernels in the hope of getting some freebies. That make me sound very pedantic though! Blush
