copper oooh I love the nat history museum. Great fun! Especially the dinosaurs!

Laska5772 · 09/05/2017 12:11

Dont want to scare you but ... when i first got a mortgage ( in the pre-jurrassic period - early 1980s- interest rates were 16% ! (And rising) hopefully we wont return to that after Wrecksit..

Laska5772 · 09/05/2017 12:20

Im fairly sure we wont though...
There will be a revolution. ( though perhaps that what we need to get this lot out)

ememem84 · 09/05/2017 12:50

Mum and dad said that. But they were on a tracker one. We figure as long as we fix we can sit back and relax. Ish.

I do think that we're in for a bumpy ride though re brexit. I'm still slightly pissed that I wasn't allowed to vote.

MeadowHay · 09/05/2017 12:52

Laska Your talk of 'wreckshit' and revolution made me giggle Grin. I think we are on the same page politically!!

Cag Hope you're feeling better and enjoy your holiday!

Lonely That is super cool about the broach!

Em Sorry to hear catface has a bad eye bless her. Hopefully you will be able to pin her down with DH to clean it a bit. Even some of our health things with DGPigs are two-people jobs here because they are so wriggly sometimes but at least they don't really scratch much like cats can, ouch.

Spent £60.66 on an Asda grocery shop which will be coming tomorrow night. That should be all spends for today.

Going back to work this evening so will make some ££ finally!

Stress levels atm are ridiculous but I guess I am coping pretty well considering. And I keep telling myself its only a few weeks. After this month is done I am all finished and can relax. Just taking it one day at a time now I guess and hopefully May will be over before I know it...

ememem84 · 09/05/2017 13:03

Have had a look at catfaces eye again. It's not looking as bad as this morning. I'm def going to try and wipe it later with water and cotton pad but will make a vet appointment for Saturday morning. Better to be safe than sorry. She doesn't appear to be in pain or distressed or anything.

I feel guilty because I can't take her any other time so am hoping it's just dust or she has a weepy eye. Apparently some cats do just have them.

SunnyLikeThursday · 09/05/2017 13:11

Laska I'm hoping for a revolution too. Slightly alarmed that Scotland has started voting Tory as a protest vote though. That's like kids eating sprouts as a protest vote. It just makes no sense.

Laska5772 · 09/05/2017 14:05

Meadow GrinGrin you mis-read my spelling!! But Wreckshit is even better! I wont be calling it anything else now!!

Laska5772 · 09/05/2017 14:06

Sunny sprouts are wrong on so many levels anyway....

SunnyLikeThursday · 09/05/2017 14:27

Very true. Smile

I've been practising being relaxed and am now falling asleep. Zzzzzz

I did my April numbers and have come in £500 over budget again. That seems to happen a lot. Actually reducing the amount I'm spending is really hard though. I may need to visit Aldi.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 09/05/2017 14:49

Oh God Frugaleers I have sinned, made the mistake of going to the garden centre and spent £36, then went to the reuse shop and spent another £5 on random things and thats on top of me offering to pay for the coffees and cakes this morning which came in at £15 Shock ridiculous as I can't afford any of it and that is coming out of this weeks food budget!! The garden will look beautiful but unfortunately none of it is edible.

SunnyLikeThursday · 09/05/2017 15:00

Girlie I sooo know that feeling. I'm pretty certain that the garden centre is a trap.

Probably the best thing is to put the lovely things in the garden, set up a chair and a cuppa and have a sit down to enjoy them properly until you've got your money's-worth. SmileBrewCake

If it helps any, we are test driving an electric car tomorrow. The price is eyewatering, and we're both slightly hoping that it drives like a milk float so we can go back to buying a secondhand petrol car with a clear conscience.

SnugglySnerd · 09/05/2017 15:35

That's amazing, Lonely!

Thanks, Need, actually things are starting to feel slightly easier and we are getting a little more sleep. I think now I can drive again and walk further and get out and about a bit I am happier.

Another NSD today, I'm on a roll!

WreckTangled · 09/05/2017 16:48

Oops girlie!

Well I went back into pre school to give Ds his medicine (as I was working at the school anyway) and the manager said that if I fill in 300 a few forms, being in the information leaflet which is in the bin then the SENCO for the school is allowed to administer medicine. It seems barmy to me. They have outstanding ofsted too but apparently they made it their policy to stop parents sending in unwell children.

£45 fuel
65p on a packet of salt and vinegar squares. Yum.

Beef stir fry for dinner.

WreckTangled · 09/05/2017 16:49

Oh and look at the shit drive to and from work I have Wink

Fluffys frugaleer thread. All welcome.
Fluffycloudland77 · 09/05/2017 17:12

Very good of your DD to take a photo Wreck Wink

need Brilliant, it'll soon be gone. I overpay mine, I could do with the money TBH but I want to clear it ASAP so Dh can give up work.

Saltwater for cats eyes here too Em, bite wounds, sore paws. Most things in fact.

Spendy.

£5 sains, making organic ginger & lime cordial.

£8 different sains. Cat food, foil, waterproof eyeliner for tight lining.

Doing face pack. Am oily & covered in red spots. Sad spray tanning myself later to cheer myself up.

Potential spendy.

We may have had a call from our selling estate agent. And may have gone to look at another house. And may have put an offer in. £5k more than the offer we had in on the other place. location nicer (practically in the country) semi detached still. 3 bed. Downstairs layout better. Black granite worktops bifold doors to garden Belfast sink

SunnyLikeThursday · 09/05/2017 18:13

Exciting! For a minute there I thought you might have bought two houses but an offer isn't binding there, the way it is in Scotland, is it?

needastrongone · 09/05/2017 18:26

Interest rates will probably depend on inflationary pressures and how the economy is doing, it's a tricky one indeed.

Thanks guys, look - I know we have more than most but this dividend has been spent really wisely, i.e mainly saved Grin, apart from 2/3 specific things we agreed on after planning. No idea why 150k is such a watershed number, but it feels like it is.

How you feeling tonight Life? You are right you know about that bucket, I've got head space and stuff doesn't seem so overwhelming like it did last week. x

Exciting Em. We've done big mortgages is all our married life, you get used to it and it's essentially investing the money anyway. Soon it will be second nature, and at your age you have the option of paying just a standard amount with no over payments if you ever needed for a time. If you don't get the house just console yourself that black granite shows every single mark and crumb, all the folk on our little development chose black, apart from astute DH, who chose light grey. Inspired choice. Smile Any granite looks incredible though, lucky you!

That cordial sounds good Fluffy. You okay?

Spends today.
£50 M&S, got tons and also a massive bunch of flowers for my friend who is 40 today.
£44 Nails and toes, metallic pink, different for me. Yes, shallow need Grin
£10 exercise class for me and DD later.

Made the 7 veg sauce tonight Snuggly, which I will chop some of my free sausages into tonight and lemon and ricotta and basil tomorrow. Frugal teas.

needastrongone · 09/05/2017 18:29

Oh Copper, I can imagine. Ever present. It will soon be over. x

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/05/2017 18:36

Lonely that's awesome. Clever you.

No class tonight and broke my sugar free run. Meh tomorrow is a better day. Supposed to be baking tonight. CBA.

Oooh em sounds lovely.

Wreck, that's a bit rubbish about the meds. Usually a dispensing label is enough.

Laska Grin wreckshit.

We over pay our mortgage but will never, ever get a pay rise above 1% (public sector) which sucks when we are trying to move. Good savings though need

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/05/2017 18:38

Since it was used on me I've used the bucket theory on my staff too. I like it. It's an easy way to explain stress.

ememem84 · 09/05/2017 18:54

sunny no. Not binding until paperwork is signed - usually 3 days before completion. And even then people have been known to drop an offer in the 10 minutes before court sits.

If our offer gets accepted dh will phone the agent for the other house and will tell her we've found somewhere else. sadly we don't think the other place will move quick enough for us.

This new one the vendors can move quickly. No chain. Fingers crossed.

ChristmasSeacow · 09/05/2017 19:11

I wrote a long post yesterday and it never appeared! Mammy's kittens, poorly frugaleers, fluffy's zits, Laksa and crime telly (or was that the previous day?)... anyway, gone now!

I thought schools would administer medicines that are prescribed, but not ad hoc Calpol etc (that's my understanding round here anyway). That stops them worrying about possible reactions etc and also means the poorly kids have to stay at home unless they are in the mend and checked out by the gp. That seems okay but just saying no really isn't Hmm

Re mortgages, I remember when interest rates went up to about 15% in 1989-90. My parents were hanging on by the skin of their teeth - it was a scary time. After so many years of low rates it would be a huge problem for this generation if they shot up again - no one expects it could or would happen.

I wish we could overpay our mortgage but we can't while I'm not working. We do have quite chunky savings that we could put against it which would bring it under £200k easily but we haven't done it because we'd rather have access to the money while we don't know when I will go back to work.

Mind you, we didn't overpay in recent years even when working because childcare was so expensive, and we've done bits of work to the house instead. And we were saving for possible IVF (not needed thankfully but all being spent on time off and DS's therapy now). It'll definitely be a priority when I go back to work, assuming childcare costs give us the option with 2 kids to worry about!

Yesterday was very busy and productive but also spendy. My house was a revolving door - by 2pm I had engaged a cleaner, booked an electrician to do my extra sockets, spent 90 mins reviewing DS's EHC plan with his private SLT and had a home visit from Carpet Man and ordered a carpet for baby's room! All of these visitors required me to spend money. So £££££. But I am really pleased to have got things all lined up for baby's room. My sister is painting it next weekend and the weekend after that, when the carpet is done, I can get the Ikea furniture in, and then buy drawers, which will mean that I won't have baby stuff all over the house! Hooray!

Also worked today so that's money in the pot. I would rather work than do my own cleaning at the moment, given how painful it is to bend down, lift stuff, Hoover etc so it's a good swap! Spent about £7 in Pret on yummy lunch and a drink, no remorse Grin. Tonight I have to do a mega tidy and declutter because the new cleaner starts tomorrow with a double shift to deep clean everything.,She ran her finger along the top of the fridge and it wasn't pretty BlushGrin

needastrongone · 09/05/2017 19:16
