I like the pearl barley and chopped potatoes idea lonely, for the Shepherds Pie. That's sound delicious.

I'm sure I'll have an awful race and my running buddy will help me out. The hill at mile 4 was certainly something. ConfusedGrin

needastrongone · 07/05/2017 18:48

Beef dripping chips, drool (sorry cremeWink).

Laska5772 · 07/05/2017 19:25

Mmm...Chips... Im on a diet Envy

Need Thanks.. I'm glad i'm back also ( not sure why I ever stopped posting.. I think it was hard keeping up with all the posts at one time.) . Actually before I did start here again , I was feeling rather jaded with MN. , so many nasty argumentative posts, doom and gloom and intolerance.. I was thinking of not bothering with it anymore.. .

.But Im so happy to be back in the 'lovely friendly ' chatty frugaleers corner.. ( have re -found my people i think)/

BTW need have you seen that thread in S&B about 'What you have bought from recommends on MN' ? Ive contributed/ confessed .. Go. on, I dare you !! Grin . Btw I am very happy with the Hush dress , but I think it that style would probably swamp you.. (im taller/ larger scale than you if i remember.. ) its pretty long on me at (just) 5'6

creme DS seems happy, esp now he has broadband connected again.. I dont know how he will feel once the monthly utility bills start coming in . Ive done him a spreadsheet though.. I wonder if he will use it?

Em hows the violin practice going? Grin Is he better yet?

Laska5772 · 07/05/2017 19:27

cag hope you are feeling a bit better ..

CremeEggThief · 07/05/2017 19:36

Glad to hear it, Laska. He sounds in much better form than when you posted 2015/16.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/05/2017 19:41

Oh Cag you must feel rotten, will you have to cancel?. You poor thing Sad

Mammy I'm so sorry for your kitten, hopefully two will be more manageable for her Flowers

Got a £10 sainsbos voucher Off valued opinions for my night away next month, I can use it to buy breakfast in their cafe & the rest for tu clothes in the sale. I'm not paying £9 for a breakfast in the hotel.

Beef dripping chips are the bomb, I'm too wussy to put beef dripping in my fryer.

Lonely Don't worry we're the poor relations too Grin, when you've paid off your debts you'll feel like millionaires.

Thanks! Hoping we can still go Confused. Feeling worse by the hour though so ringing the doctor's in the morning, feels more chest-infection-like (I have had many over the years) so need to be checked really. Bah.

Laska5772 · 07/05/2017 19:53

We finished our last box set last night (Dvd, we're a bit old hat here !!)

Follow the Money.. 2 series, utterly compelling, if youve not seen it .

So what shall I get next? thinking Broadchurch or Line of Duty? which one , do you think ?

Any other recommends ? We do like a bit of crime ... ( Scandi crime is jolly good for winding up the Danes in the family,..Grin )

Laska5772 · 07/05/2017 19:54

Oh. how grim.. poor you , cag

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/05/2017 19:59

Does it always affect one part of the lung? Dhs do so he leans forward and I bang on that part to loosen the pus.

Then after a few of them he breathes out all the way so he's got little air left in the lungs & we do that until he coughs up.

Friars Balsam as an inhalation works really well at dislodging gunk. It stains though.

or what about The Unforgotten? looks good..

Laska5772 · 07/05/2017 20:39

Ive gone for The Unforgotten.. but would still like to know what any of you thought about the other series ..

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/05/2017 20:44

I'm enjoying you being back too laska. Broadchurch season 1 - very good, season 2 meh, season 3 better. Not seen t'other one.

ememem84 · 07/05/2017 21:14

cag feel better soon. Vicks on feet with socks on overnight help soothe a cough wierd

laksa violin was ok. Not too bad actually. Dh not happy. Washing machine was noisy. Hoover noisy. Radio noisy. Hairdryer hot and noisy. He didn't start to feel normal until 6pm. He spent a long time in the bathroom this morning... I used to hate hangover sicks in the morning. Way worse than drunk sicks the night before (not that it happened often but on occasion I've had too much wine....)

Idiot boy didn't have dinner. So basically had lunch as his only meal. And about 10 pints of Guinness then jaegerbombs and other assorted shots. He did manage a nsd though as the tab was picked up by the business he went with. So that's a bonus.... Hmm

lonely the quilt sounds lovely. I'd always prefer something like that over a standard shop gift. More thought and loves gone into it.

Dh made the bed. While he was getting acquainted with the toilet this morning I took advantage of the situation and stripped the bed. He spent a good portion of the morning lying on the "naked" bed groaning while I pootled about doing bits and pieces.

HollyTheHarrier · 07/05/2017 21:39

Evening everyone 😊 Turned out to be quite a speedy weekend:
£7.20 food top up shop yesterday
£35 accommodation for wedding in July
£45 towards hen do for a different wedding
£4.50 for parking at half marathon this morning
£4.50 on tea, doughnut and bacon sandwich 😳 After half marathon. I was only just feeling human after all that, don't know why I felt so drained. Anyway it was a lovely sunny day for a race and saw some beautiful countryside.

Need serious hills! Well done. I love running cameraderie. A total stranger kept me going towards the end today when I was really struggling.

cag hope you feel better soon. Sounds miserable.

I'm aiming for an early night as travelling tomorrow so need to be up about 5. Not had my tea yet though!

HollyTheHarrier · 07/05/2017 21:40

*spendy weekend!

Mummysh0rtlegs · 07/05/2017 21:50

£10 on mcdonalds after a birthday party, neither of them ate much and after the party I just didn't have it in me to cook.

I have three costumes to return to amazon, all in a really poor state when I opened them.

Put £100 onto my revolut card for holiday, trying to move a bit over now and then.

ChristmasSeacow · 07/05/2017 22:21

Lonely I think a home made quilt is much nicer than any bought present. A friend's mum made a Thomas one for DS and it is fabulous.

Em that was a very noisy day Grin

Mammy sorry about the kittens. It's a life lesson for DD but tough.

Laksa I think Line of Duty was the best of those but they were all decent. LoD had the most sophisticated plot, I'd say. Unforgotten and Broadchurch both do that thing of introducing a range of suspects and then keeping them all in play till the end. Unforgotten is probably a better police drama, whereas Broadchurch is more character driven, with a low key plot. I don't know which series you are talking about for each but I agree with Life about Broadchurch. Love crime, me.

We've been watching 'Big Little Lies' this week and it was pretty good too. We're not in the middle of anything now, unfortunately. I've just mopped the kitchen floor so DH and I didn't need to talk to each other Grin

Get well soon to the poorly /spotty Frugaleers.

Well, we have finally emptied (nearly) all the crap out of DH's study, to turn into the baby room. My lovely sister came up to help DH break up 6 (6!) Ikea Billy bookcases and take them to the tip. (I tried to give them away on the local Facebook page but no takers, such a waste.) it took 3 trips in the car, poor DH. Only his PC to move and desk to get rid of now. The room is very bright and not as small as I thought so that's good.

Unfortunately there are two unexpected jobs: the carpet will need replacing as there were some dodgy stains behind a book case that I doubt will shift and also very deep dents where the myriad Billy's were standing. Might as well replace it now while the room is empty. And I also noticed that there is only one single plug socket in the whole room, in a stupid place, which DH never mentioned Hmm. So we also need an electrician. Not so frugal (though it's a small room so the carpet won't break the bank)... but the main problem is time. I need to get it all done quickly so that I can put some furniture in there and get all the baby stuff out of the various hiding places and put away! I am tripping over boxes and bouncy chairs etc. and can't find anything I actually need.

Sooo much work and housework. I am aching. Back to mostly sitting on my bum tomorrow, at the computer. with my remaining mini eggs

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 07/05/2017 22:25

Hi all quickly popping in to say hello.

I've had another work day which was o.kay I suppose, dd came back at teatime completely knackered but had had a lovely time with her Granddad and step Grandma. She starts her SATs tomorrow Sad will be bloody glad once they are over, makes me so angry that they have been made deliberately hard and the crap she has been made to learn is truly mind boggling Confused Angry Wish I was in a position to homeschool sometimes like you Cag

Anyway spent £12 on cat biscuits but thats all, work again tomorrow....

SunnyLikeThursday · 08/05/2017 00:04

Girlie good luck to your dd on the SATs. I totally agree about all the rubbish that they have to learn. I've been so hoping that this general election might let us get rid of the SATs. Good luck there in the meantime.

We had some good gardening today. I've been trying to get out and do an hour of gardening with ds every day and we're managed three days in a row now. It's nice to get the sunshine and the garden looks a lot more spruce for it.

Loveabaconsandwich · 08/05/2017 07:12

Good luck frugaleer DC with SAts this week

DD2 got up at 5.10. Fortunately I was due to get up at 5.30 anyway. DP didn't look impressed when I took him into her so I could leave for work though Grin

Made a travel mug of tea for my journey this morning Halo

Have already been spending though. £35 of kettle and touch lamps reserved to pick up at lunch time although will pay with nectar points. Kettle button is threatening to give up so getting one in advance.

Actually looking forward to getting to work as want another cup of tea Brew. Would love a danish too but have resisted

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/05/2017 07:20

Good luck with SATS, so wrong we put kids through exams so young. The teachers know where kids are academically surely without formal exams.

love Aldi & Iceland sell frozen ready to bake pastries. Little treats like that oil the wheels.

Sea you might get a carpet offcut on eBay, or a few packs of solid flooring.

We switched our electricity to a different supplier a few months back and they've sent out a guy to fit a digital display on our heating system. Apparently it's linked up to an app we so we can set our heating to come on or off with our phones e.g. if we're on our way home from work. He's also fitting a thermostat so we can set our temperature to a fixed setting e.g. 20 degrees, and if the house heats up above that, the boiler will switch off. It's all free!

Mummysh0rtlegs · 08/05/2017 08:30

Sea - ice cubes for the dents and doctor Beckmann stuff for the stains. Our nursery carpet is grim after 4+ years of use and will need replacing once the baby / young toddler stage is done.

Cagliostro · 08/05/2017 08:53

Thanks all DH just on hold to docs for me as I can't speak :o was number 26 in the queue when he phoned at opening time! They now do a triage thing so you can't even get a same day appt without waiting for a GP to phone you back first.

Think I might be over the worst though, thanks for all the tips :) Thanks I also ate pineapple as the acid in it apparently cuts through the mucus :o it's gross coughing up stuff though.

I am biased admittedly but TBH even before we deregistered the Caglets I was totally against the SATs. It is disgusting the amount of pressure some schools are putting the kids under when it doesn't benefit the children. And I feel it's got worse - I really don't remember any of the stress, we did a bit of practice etc but it didn't seem to take up such a huge amount of time. I hope all those starting them today find it ok Thanks

TV shows, I absolutely loved the second series of unforgotten (made me cry), latest broadchurch was ok but I'd watch the whole trilogy if possible. Currently halfway through the latest line of duty and loving it so will have to try and find series 1-3 somewhere. Also enjoyed apple tree yard, and the replacement was a bit silly really but enjoyed it overall
