"Dh has just showed catface the sales brochure. She sat on it and purred. So that's good."

Sounds purrfect then Grin. Sorry!

Cagliostro · 26/03/2017 21:02

Think hard about the school situation em. It can be very stressful and should be factored into a family home move. Sorry don't want to be doom and gloom but schooling is to me very important in that it needs to be the right school.
Not sure how the system works there but here it's location, location, location.

Cagliostro · 26/03/2017 21:06

Delurking here.......my favourite thread, I've learnt so much, thank you 💐
Many congratulations Cag, I had to post because DD's just shown me the name of the free condoms found in Usbeckistan loos....they're called 'Oops'!
(Not that she's ever used one, she works out there!)

P1nkP0ppy · 26/03/2017 21:16

*Uzbekistan? (Sp?) My brain's gone into freeze mode 😟

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/03/2017 21:40

Thanks pink

creme Irish genes. If you didn't offer someone out for a fight you weren't drunk.

We bought our house based on cat safety.

ememem84 · 26/03/2017 21:52

life realistically all schools here are really good compared to the uk. Smaller class sizes etc. So no where is bad. Just some schools (the ones out in the country - so a 15 minute drive from where we'd be and where we are now) are better. But that's now.

Teachers move. Things change.

And dh I think has his heart set on private school. As it's all he knows. It's not an issue for me per se but I didn't go through the private system so don't know it iyswim. Incidentally if we were to private school all are within a 5-10 minute walk from where we'd be/are now. So no commute.

ememem84 · 26/03/2017 21:54

In bed. Dh is watching mutiny on channel 4 catch ups.

I watched one episode but had to leave as the motion of the boat made me feel sick. Eugh. Stupid dh watching things in stupid hd. And stupid inherited tv from mil with its ridiculously clear sharp display. Eugh.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/03/2017 22:04

The fees go up with age, I knew a head teacher of a private school who had a parent with 6 kids.

It was £100k per year and going up as they went through GCSEs etc.

He needs a pay rise.

Cagliostro · 26/03/2017 22:09

Welcome P1nk and :o :o :o at the condom names! I found myself wondering if Trojans still exist the other day as the Caglets have been learning about the Trojan war.

Gosh Em I remember the TV making me feel sick too. And a particular Wii game which I had to get rid of because even after having DS, the association had stuck. Even thinking of it now makes me want to puke. With DD I was mainly devastated that I had to stop watching Saturday Kitchen for the whole first trimester.

I'm feeling happier about the whole situation today and I know a lot of that is down to being able to chat here, as DH is at work. Thanks I'm torn between wanting to plan all the financial stuff - what do we ACTUALLY need and what will be the best way to find it - and not wanting to get ahead of myself because it's early days!

cag the TVs been making me feel sick for years. Mil bought this super fancy super crisp display smart tv. Then left for nz. So we got a pretty much brand new tv frugal win it's great if I don't watch in the super high definition.

Game over if I attempt to watch anything boaty car chasey etc in high def. Eugh.

Dh is going to the bank tomorrow to talk mortgages. I should go with him really but I've done a lot re house move so far and he needs to get off his ass and do something.

We think we may need to borrow the same amount we borrowed originally (7 years ago) to get this place. We think it'll mean mortgage payments increasing by a couple of hundred a month initially but we did it 7 years ago on smaller salaries so should be ok

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/03/2017 22:20

It might not be that early, I've known women be 6 months when they realised. Hopefully they'll scan you.

I think people will offload baby stuff on to you when they realise your pg after getting rid of all your baby stuff.

Hope everyone has had a lovely Mother's Day.

em I had a problem with music, Madonna's Don't Tell Me, the rhythm of it gave me palpitations Shock and the music for BBC World made me nauseous Confused

Grin at Oops P1ink

NSD for me, DH paid for dinner out. Not sure yet about tomorrow but Sainsbo's this week is looking like £75-ish.

Will try to catch up properly tomorrow.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/03/2017 22:29

The Irish weddings DM went to in the 1950s sound fab, always at least one fight.

Coppersulphate · 26/03/2017 23:11

Place marking. At meetings all day and now knackered.

ChristmasSeacow · 26/03/2017 23:15

Cag I couldn't help but think ahead to what we would need, names we liked, two kids by next Christmas etc etc. I tried not to as I felt it was too early (hot on the heels of an mc last summer) but just couldn't help but think ahead...

Now I here I am getting kicked in the bladder by baby Frogmella and buying breastfeeding cushions, baby carriers and the like! Fingers crossed all goes well for you.

fluffy good to know the lawn might recover. I will try some seed and feed thing and see if it helps.

Em DH and I are similar. He went to private prep school, then a very good academic public school (by which I mean ye olde fancy private school). I went to state schools, and lots of 'em (family moved round a lot). He's never known any different but realistically we couldn't afford private schools without help, even though we both have 'professional' careers. Well, maybe one and a half kids at primary, at a push, but definitely not two kids through secondary. It may be different where you are but in the U.K. there seems to have been a marked shift in affordability: A generation ago when DH and BIL went to private school, FIL was a mid-senior ranking civil servant and MIL was a SAHM. No way could someone in the equivalent job pay for 2x private schools now, especially not at secondary age. A friend of mine (also privately educated at a public school) is now a housemaster at DH's old school and he said the parents are a much wealthier cohort than when he was at school, out of necessity. And a much bigger proportion of the pupils are from overseas because the schools simply can't fill their places otherwise. I do wonder how the system here is sustainable while fees keep galloping ahead of earnings... time will tell.

I am not too bothered now as we have decent primary options. Secondary- not so sure but we'll have to see what our options are then (which might include moving). It doesn't help that we have the prospect of chunky university fees ahead either - like lots of people we'll need to save for that which affects what we might spend on schooling.

Gosh, I need to get back to work asap and stop spending our savings Confused Grin

That's good to know that others struggle with these massive ultra-sharp tvs. I do to, but we bought an old Apple cinema display off ebay and we watch all tv on iplayer on that.

It's great because with iplayer we can reduce the size of the picture to whatever size is appropriate for the particular tv show. The old screen is also not that ultra-sharp ultra-bright sort so it's really easy on the eyes.

Em That house sounds really good if your dh is so keen on private schooling. If you have money to afford it and so on. Sounds ideal.

We're off to an emergency appointment at the community dentist today at 8.30am so I'm bracing myself.

SunnyLikeThursday · 27/03/2017 06:20

Wreck How's your dd's homework going? We got something quite demented for ds this week.

WreckTangled · 27/03/2017 06:57

She only have handwriting during term time. It's the holidays she gets tricky stuff!

I need to go food shopping today. I felt so sick last night it was horrendous. Not got another gastro appt until after NZ. Will my GP prescribe anti nausea for me? It's ruining my life.

allthebestplease · 27/03/2017 07:12

cream your day sounds lovely.
em I loved my big garden (pre dd), I had flowers, veg, pond, decking, grass etc. But it soon became too much. We downsized and now have artificial grass, everytime dm comes over she always says how lovely and green it looks! Anyway, a big garden is great once they get to school age.
Have to go food shopping today 😐
And have to tidy the house 😞

SunnyLikeThursday · 27/03/2017 07:28

Wreck That was exactly what was happening to me about 4 years ago. I gave up wheat and dairy (accidentally actually) and the problem went away abruptly about 14 hours later. It might be worth a try for you too.
