Ugh! What a horrible day!
Just remembered someone asked me about my apple chutney yesterday and I forgot to reply, can't remember who asked now, sorry. Anyway I used Jamie Oliver's recipe for spicy pear chutney but used fewer pears and more apples! It's delicious 😋

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/11/2016 08:08

Trying

It's surprising what a piece of fleece can do isn't it?. I can't believe how many houses around here leave the curtains open at night in winter. All that warmth being lost through the double glazing.

Yy to cancelling Paid tv services. I bet with cashback you can get the Internet much cheaper combining it with now tv. Possibly even upgrade to fibre bb.

I'm looking into secondary glazing film for the French doors, you can feel the cold coming in off them & it's a newbuild. I just need a day alone to sneak it past Dh.

CremeEggThief · 09/11/2016 08:11

AngryShock about Trump.

mammymammyIRL · 09/11/2016 08:28

off to google secondary glazing film Smile
totally creme in shock here.

WreckTangled · 09/11/2016 08:30

I agree Cath you don't need to tell your GP you're leaving.

Should be LSD. Need to get dd a school disco ticket for £2.50.

Needastrongone · 09/11/2016 09:00

The American vote is likely about the same things that Brexit was about. Working class folk, many white, seeing their living standards eroded, year after year and feeling their voices are not heard by the establishment. Ironically, as the world economy takes a massive hit after this, the very people that voted will be the ones who suffer most....

Em I think you might need to get to the bottom of this anxiety you know sooner or later. Might be beneficial before you start a family. Being pregnant makes you worry about all sorts of stuff, and having a baby is a major upheaval. Talking to someone might be the answer. It helped DH tons.

Lord North don't all those white goods all go at once.

I'm snowed in. Well, DH needed my 4x4 to get out today, so I've shifted my working days around to cater for this. I've got lots of paperwork to do and a tidy up.

Jamie's minestrone for tea tonight. Supposed to be running club but we will see.

WreckTangled · 09/11/2016 09:35

free dvd ice age 4 if you're a sky customer. We are until tomorrow so I quickly got one! Will be a stocking filler

SnugglySnerd · 09/11/2016 10:09

Christmas it has really cheered me up to read that you are close to your twin siblings as I'm really worried about how DD will be affected and whether she will accept them.
She's very helpful most of the time. She just unpacked all the shopping for me! I've also trained her to load/empty the washing machine so I don't have to bend. She'll be 3 when they are born. I hope we can potty train her by then, all attempts so far have been disastrous!
Just spent £74 in the supermarket and that wasn't even a full week's shopping as DH will want to buy meat for a Sunday roast at the weekend. I did buy a lot of nappies, cat litter and dishwasher tablets though and also some massive pants that will fit with the bump (not attractive though), so that's probably why it was so expensive.
Rest of today should be NSD hopefully, planning to do some baking to use up some lemons and things.

Cagliostro · 09/11/2016 10:22

Good grief. We were supposed to be going to London for an event but the train would've cost £116 😱😱😱

Instead we've come back home after going via town for a new documentary to watch, then since we got a bus pass DH is going to take the Caglets swimming (we get home ed discount during the school day)

Em am around if you want a chat at any time re: anxiety.

Snuggly obviously it'd be great if you can get DD potty trained before the twins arrive but I wouldn't worry too much. Kids often regress with that sort of thing when a new sibling arrives anyway, so I'd hang on to the nappies regardless just in case.

The only benefit I can see to the us vote is that the pounds got stronger....

We'll see what happens...

Actually turned out to be a nice day today. Cold but sunny.

Nsd so far!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 09/11/2016 13:11

Hi all, am very depressed about Trump. Exactly the same sinking feeling i had the morning after the Brexit vote Sad as always will try and stay optimistic but I honestly think he is seriously dangerous, even dd was speechless!

Anyhow life goes on, i have a lovely hire car to swish about in Grin will have it till Friday when hopefully my car will be all fixed. Have popped into town spent £23 in Boots on various toiletries they were all on offer! Have £16 of points as well which will go towards Christmas gifts.

£16 in Wilkos on various bits.
£2.60 in Greggs.
£2.40 parking

I also spent £80 on Amazon last night Shock I bit the bullet and ordered stuff for dds Christmas present, decided against heelies and got her a playmobil set that she wants and few other bits (dvds, books) I know at 10yo she is probably getting a bit old for playmobil but as she still plays with it all the time so I think she will still get a fair bit of enjoyment out of it plus it sells well when she does outgrow it

It was blowing an absolute gail last night but is lovely out now, have hung the washing out!

Right must clear up and ring housing people and channel my inner angry person Hmm Angry Wink

CathodeRayTube · 09/11/2016 13:24

I wish Trump wasn't so awful to look at and listen to. I kind of want to know what he's saying, but not enough to put myself through the experience of hearing him say it.

mammymammyIRL · 09/11/2016 13:39

I know lots of you shop in the works
30% off at The Works with a £30 spend, 20% off with a £20 spend and 10% off a £10 spend, using code MUM30.
This is today's bargain on Mumsnet 12 days of discount codes

ChristmasSeacow · 09/11/2016 13:54

Interestingly the poorest people voted Clinton. But there's a blue collar protest vote going on for sure. Shame HRC is such a divisive figure, I really fear what Trump will do.

I have thrown myself into a cleaning frenzy to take my mind off it. We stopped our cleaner 2 weeks ago as part of the frugal drive. I am not enjoying having to keep in top of everything and probably don't do things like hoovering often enough but I do like doing it really thoroughly (takes me much longer than it did her but I am pulling all the furniture out and deep cleaning one room at a time). Very satisfying. DS is at nursery today so I have a good run at it.

I bled a radiator upstairs and the pressure in our boiler has now dropped to nothing. I got the manual out and there is no information about how to recharge it and nothing obvious on the boiler itself so I've rung my friendly boiler man and he will pop round to show me. So that might cost a little bit. He will come back and service it properly when I get to the top of his list after New Year Shock

snuggly, we have a great relationship. We are all girls and they are super close to each other (more so in adulthood than as children actually) so I've always been a bit of the outsider but not in a bad way. Nevertheless due to timings of university, jobs etc I have flat shared with each of them at different times and both was good, though they have very different temperaments! When they were born what made me feel positive was that they were twins (so a bit 'special') and the fact that I could be useful - mum made me feel responsible and helpful. As they got older they looked up to me and I had them to experiment on play with a bit. They don't have families of their own but are very supportive of us and DS and genuinely accept and love him. I wouldn't be without them.

CollieMonster · 09/11/2016 14:22

Frugal win! Getting some dodgy flooring in the bathroom replaced for free as it's under the new build warranty thing. We had budgeted £hundreds.

Needastrongone · 09/11/2016 14:42

GrinGrinGrin @ Cathode. That's exactly how I feel about Trump.

There's plenty of checks and balances written into the constitution though. And although the Senate and Congress are now Republican, neither leader is a huge fan of Trump. So he can hardly march through legislation willy nilly. The President of the USA has less power than we might imagine. Think Obama....

NSD. Lots of cleaning and tidying done and admin. Non working days are so much easier!

CathodeRayTube · 09/11/2016 14:47

need I agree. The USA now needs Sir Humphry Appleby just as much as we do.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/11/2016 15:54

£35 work stuff
£20 petrol.

Reserved window film in homebase, I'll pay using nectar points & I've contacted an electrician about fitting the chop cloc. He's going to look at the fitting instructions & quote me.

I've worked out we've spent £9 per month over the last two months on gas before standing charge. It's a pain having to get up every 20 minutes to switch the heating on/off though.

CremeEggThief · 09/11/2016 16:40

Fluffy, can you not put it on a timer? I have mine on for an hour, off for an hour, on for another hour, etc. between 3 and 10 p.m. I could do it 30 minutes on, 30 off, but I don't feel that's enough time for my house (30s semi) to warm up.

Mummytogg · 09/11/2016 17:30

LSD brought some Christmas gift bags 4 for £1 and some Christmas cards in card factory.

Got treated to lunch by my mum and put some birthday money in the bank as I couldn't come up with anything I really needed.

Eggs, milk and a few snacky things for ds in sainsburys

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/11/2016 17:30

Our timer only switches on and off 5 times a day, I need twice an hour for 8 hours at the weekend.

I'm sure I'm using less gas than last year. I will try to login to my old provider to check.

SnugglySnerd · 09/11/2016 17:32

Thanks, Christmas that is very reassuring and I hadn't considered that about toilet training, Cag, thank you.
Busy day today, did a few jobs, went for a blustery walk and did some baking. I'm tired now, so is DD, she's just sitting on the settee staring into space. I wonder what she's thinking about!

CathodeRayTube · 09/11/2016 17:53

I just saw Clinton's acceptance speech. Seems so sad. Like we're saying goodbye to an age of kindness that we didn't even know could end.

www.nytimes.com/video/us/politics/100000004708101/hillary-clinton-concession-speech-live-stream.html

I wonder if they could train Trump to behave, then way they have Boris?

Needastrongone · 09/11/2016 17:58

I listened to it Cath, as I listen to Radio 5 all day. She way pretty emotional at times.
