If the pound crashes right down, and stays there, do you think that will mean that things like the British ship building industry and the wool industry in this country will get a new lease of life?
I mean if we can't afford to buy stuff from abroad any more, then it might finally make sense for Scottish farmers to sell wool, and Mums to knit jumpers again. I might be able to grow vegetables and make a meaningful contribution to the household budget, rather than having to spend £1 on a packet of carrot seeds, when it only costs 8p to buy an imported carrot.
I'm torn between being pleased that local skills will finally be valuable again and worrying that if we can't manage to grow carrots or knit jumpers then we might just have to go without.
I'm also not quite so keen on not being able to afford bosch electric screwdrivers, but I suppose it's swings and roundabouts.
What do you all think about this stuff? I gather that the pound has now gone beyond the lowest value ever recorded now.
