Blimey, it's taken me a while to catch up, this is moving fast! And so many name changes too, I struggle to remember who's who at the best of times!

Updated our spreadsheet today, ready for the start of October. We've been able to make some savings with the loft conversion, not sure yet what the final figure is going to be. Things are moving much more quickly now, I'm hoping the builders may be finished by this time next week. Then there will just be the small matter of paint, carpets, wood stain, varnish etc etc.

Managed to get 2 bits of costume for dd's drama show from charity shops today, definite frugal win.
£54 at aldi £15 in Booths. Need to meal plan, will post in the morning as I'm on a late shift.

AGenie · 29/09/2016 22:18

electric That's amazing. I had no idea. I'm so astonished that I hardly know what to say tbh. Gosh! Glad you know longer have a creepy hospital. Smile

needastrongone · 29/09/2016 22:21

Girlie. Its like primary. When they start secondary, they look so grown up. By Y11/12 the Y7's look like toddlers. Just like the reception kids to your DD will look tiny. Smile

Secondary has been nothing but a good thing for both of mine. They are lucky to go to an outstanding state school. Cannot praise it highly enough. Your DD will be fine, but grow up quickly!

I too struggle with name changes, you are not alone Genie.

Shesgotelectricboobs · 29/09/2016 22:29

genie it's weird. It's only now they've started really uncovering what actually happened here. I guess 70+ years on there are not that many people around who would remember.

Some of the stuff we've read about at various sites is horrific. Some of the pictures are very upsetting.

It's v interesting though. You just don't think about how normal people lived through it. Even the enemy soldiers. Normal people. Drafted to do a job.

That's one of the quotes at the museum "I'm just a normal german man"

Paid another £20 off my credit card today. I think that's how I have to tackle it. One chunk at payday. Then small bits on an ad hoc basis during the month. Makes it easier.

Balance is less than £500 now. So in theory I could wipe it out next payday. Will aim for that. Have started leaving it home again.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 29/09/2016 22:31

I'm too lazy to change my name Wink

Yes Need looking round with dd tonight it reminded me of when I looked round primaries when dd was 4yo, she looked tiny then and it was similar tonight! Don't want her growing up too quickly though Sad my baby girl!

AGenie · 29/09/2016 22:50

Thanks need I'm glad it's not just me. In a way I feel it's good that I am forgetting people's back stories. It means that they can keep their anonymity even with us, which I think is maybe good, given the sorts of things that we bring to this group sometimes. The friendship and the kindness stays through all the namechanges and that's the bit that matters.

electric. I've been thinking about that a lot recently actually. Whenever I see bombing aftermath pictures from Aleppo, I realise that that must have been what life was like for my grandparents when they were living through the Clydebank blitz. My dm always said she didn't understand why her dm wouldn't talk about her baby years, but I'm starting to see myself why it was. Must have been a whole different level for your family in Jersey if they were occupied. What a thought.

SquirrelWatcher · 29/09/2016 23:09

Agenie my Gran and her family lived through the Clydebank blitz too. It's inconceivable isn't it?

Tryingtosaveup · 30/09/2016 00:06

Hello blue, nice to see you again.
Yes, all the name changes confuse me, but then I am easily confused.
I would like to name change but I can't even remember my password. It's good when name hangers give us a clue though.
Boobs, your cat didn't mean to poop. But I know cleaning it up is gross.
Pile of money parking today but was at meetings so can claim it all back.
That cake is amazing. Please can I have a slice?
Boobs, I think the recent history of jersey is very interesting. I believe the island was split after the war between those who "co operated" and those who "resisted" is that right. I think people now realise that many people were just trying to survive.
I always feel sorry for the ordinary families in places like Aleppo. The my with 2 kids just trying to feed them and keep them safe. We are soooo lucky.

Collieballs · 30/09/2016 05:48

trying every time I see Aleppo on TV or online I feel so sad. Those poor people.

I wasn't taught history at all. Not really sure how my secondary school got away with it (it was the 90s). I've been teaching myself about WW1 & 2 and it's heartbreaking. My Gran didn't help either "oh I was machine gunned at whilst walking down this Street" Shock

Anyway, I am up early & trembling with fever between being sick.

Although it's payday! Hoorah!!

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/09/2016 06:25

Ah thanks. Yes it's big enough you can all come for a cuppa and a slice. I have another to make next week.

I'm rubbished at remembering stuff.

I want to visit Jersey now. We've looked before but might look again.
Need to buy party food today and stuff for the weekend and wrapping paper. Also need to meal plan and sort aldi shop

mammymammyIRL · 30/09/2016 06:25

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/09/2016 06:26

Gws collie

Shesgotelectricboobs · 30/09/2016 06:35

Oh no collie get well soon xx

trying at least catface is using the litter box now. Scooping it is definetly my least fave cat related job.

Hoping for nsd today.

WreckTangled · 30/09/2016 07:07

Oh no collie! Feel better.

Need dw tabs today.

I've completely run out of foundation and mascara but have no money. Not sure what I can do there

mammymammyIRL · 30/09/2016 07:24

Could you pick up a few samples wreck to keep you going? Go to a makeup counter to get your make up done for an occasion?
I don't wear make up regularly anymore so don't fully get your plight Grin

Shesgotelectricboobs · 30/09/2016 07:38

wreck listen to mammy. Go to boots/Superdrug/john lewis/wherever not Mac and feign interest in their foundation and mascara. Say you want to try it and ask for samples. They'll usually oblige.

If you go to a number of counters different shops you could set yourself straight for a few days...

Shesgotelectricboobs · 30/09/2016 07:38

Or wreck do you have boots points to use?

sandgrown · 30/09/2016 07:41

Thanks for voucher info Collie. Just saved £5 with Sainsbury and got to try new products. How did you find the offers please ?

AGenie · 30/09/2016 07:48

collie your foot isn't infected is it? That could give you those symptoms, and if it's that, needs urgent medical attention. If it's just the flu then that's not to serious, though still not nice. Get well soon, there.

Squirrel what an amazing coincidence! Glad your family managed through it too. My gm, who was a teacher, lost her entire primary class in one night. It boggles my mind to think about it now.

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/09/2016 08:19

I was going to suggest blagging make up counters too wreck.
Collie It does seem strange you get those indicators the day after you cut your foot. How is the foot? Agenie is right it could be getting infected. Ring your doctor's.

mammymammyIRL · 30/09/2016 08:28

wreck Free Make Up

AGenie · 30/09/2016 08:52

electric My dh says there's a great book called "Agent Zigzag" about a man on Jersey who became a double spy during the war. There's a lot of information about him on the wikipedia too.

I'm still not spending any money, mainly because I've got the flu. Works a treat.

ItalianWiking84 · 30/09/2016 09:51

Sitting at the hospital waiting for my scan, hope the little minion is doing fine.
October is batch cooking month so we can fill up the freezer with loads of dinners before next baby arrives.. So if any of you lovely ladies have some good batch cooking recipes plz let me know( preferably easy ones, which also a 2 year toddler can eat)

Boobs: sounds really fascinating with the stories from jersey. Never been there but makes me wanna visit one day...
Creme: I need to look that book about hygge up, really surprised that anybody would write a book about that...

I've given up on name changes , I just try to keep up lol

Get well soon collie....
I'm still struggling with the flu, bloody annoying...

My great granddad hide police men during the ww2 here in Denmark on his farm and they would blend in as workers. In the night they sabotaged German rails way tracks ect. He got a medal from the state and King afterwards for it... Used to love hearing the stories growing up

Collieballs · 30/09/2016 10:21

Thank you everyone :) my foot is healing nicely although still v painful to walk on.

I stopped being sick an hour ago and now I'm slowly eating ginger snaps & Jacobs crackers. It's all I fancy! I don't get sick sick often. Once a year max! I'm more of a chest infection kinda girl. BrewBrew

I love the wartime stories. They're amazing.

agenie I'm pretty sure we own that book! Grandad lent me a few books before he died. I couldn't part with them now. I'll read them all soon.

I don't have any October goals. My goal is to stay calm and get through the house move. I'll have plenty of November goals though. Smile

ItalianWiking84 · 30/09/2016 10:22

I've found out what makes me buy unnessesary stuff, and that's fb selling sites. I'm prop on to many and they pop up in my news feed and then I'm easily hooked. So deleted all exect the kids on covering only our town and 1 all stuff covering our town, all the rest is deleted now. Also deleted news letters from bootz, zealando ect.
