Redeemed another €10 voucher for Easons today with Irish Opinions
That means dh's dgd pressie will just cost €5 as I've given her a budget of €25 on books Grin

AGenie · 30/09/2016 11:37

Glad you're on the mend Collie. I was properly worried for a bit there.

These war stories are amazing. I suppose our parents' generation didn't talk about all that stuff between families before. It's amazing to realise how much went on then.

Shesgotelectricboobs · 30/09/2016 12:55

genie my grandad fought in the war and he was apparently part of a brigade who went to Belsen and rescued people.

He never spoke about it. In fact we only found out he'd been after his death last year. Part of me wants to find out more. But part of me thinks there was a reason he never spoke about it. So leave it alone.

He only spoke to dh about his time in the army. It was strange. Always about 40 minutes before we left to fly home too. I guess he knew we had to go so couldn't hang about to chat. We knew he was in France on dday. But that's about it.

May have accidentally bought a new pair of boots. £65 in next. But I paid £40 as had a £25 voucher.

AGenie · 30/09/2016 13:09

Goodness electric! Words fail me. What a hero!

We have a wonderful old fellow in our church who was part of the DDay landings. It always makes me think when I see him, as he looks so calm and peaceful, and his little grandson is just a little lad like any other. It's hard to comprehend how that generation managed such heroic feats, when they were just like all of us before it all started.

I keep also wondering if your modern life and neuroses and consumerism is just stupidity, when viewed against the backdrop of the life our grandparents must have had. All our desperate frugaleering to pay for the things we think we need, when they didn't have antibiotics or central heating, many of them. Hum.

Can I just brag a bit???
Baby dd has grown so so much and is now only 6 percent under average. I'm so so trilled and happy and even a bit tearful because I now don't need to worry so much about it. The doctor was very pleased and happy and I don't need more scans or check ups, only the normal midwife checks... I can actually now enjoy the last weeks without worries... Really really relieved..
Sorry no frugal in that post but it made me realize that money means nothing compared to this joy feeling in me... I don't need to give birth earlier or stay longer in hospital. I'm a proud mom to my not so little baby dd

Collieballs · 30/09/2016 14:08

italian that's amazing news! Well done baby DD.

AGenie · 30/09/2016 14:10

Nice work Italian!

mammymammyIRL · 30/09/2016 14:10

italian I'm overjoyed to read your post, well done you on growing your dd so big Smile

WreckTangled · 30/09/2016 14:25

That's great news italian!

Thanks everyone for the make up ideas unfortunately the nearest shops with beauty counters are forty minutes away with a pay for car park. I have some boots points but only about £7 I think Hmm

Mummyshortlegz · 30/09/2016 14:44

Great growing Italian! So you'll go to term now?

Been to the hospital, we were there for 30 minutes and the parking cost £2.70.

Shesgotelectricboobs · 30/09/2016 14:49

italian lovely news!!! Xxx

Shesgotelectricboobs · 30/09/2016 14:50

wreck that's enough for a foundation and a mascara I think buy a cheapy brand...

Or...buy a magazine. Have a flip and see what the freebees are...?!

CremeEggThief · 30/09/2016 14:59

Great news, Italian. Delighted for you.Smile

All the stories of the war heroes are very inspirational and interesting. It's so sad that quite soon it won't be in living memorySad. I think any of us would step up though, if we were in the same situation. People find courage and strength they don't know they have in extraordinary situations. We are very lucky on the whole in most of the western world.

AGenie · 30/09/2016 15:10

electric Are you better now? I've been hoping to hit my ten days and finish this flu tomorrow, but I wondered if you had as you're two days ahead of me.

Shesgotelectricboobs · 30/09/2016 15:21

genie I felt all tight chesty this morning and a bit sore throaty. Feel ok now. Just tired more than anything. Le sigh.

Collieballs · 30/09/2016 15:53

Here's a frugal fail. Caught DS posting unused teabags through the letter box.... It was raining! Grin

WreckTangled · 30/09/2016 16:04

Dd's school got a good offsted report. There's a campaign on Facebook at the moment called worth less? basically schools in West Sussex are getting £44million less funding than the national average and £200million less than the London boroughs. If anyone wants to 'like' it I would be grateful Blush

I might pop into boots in town tomorrow then em but I don't know what selection the local one has. Got to be a Rimmel though which is cheap and cheerful Smile

AGenie · 30/09/2016 16:21

That's good that we might be on the mend then electric. Smile

collie excellent. My ds went through a phase of pushing the letters back out through the letterbox before I found them. :-)

One of my cheap activities for ds was "sowing seeds" which were actually the leaves from inside tea bags. He liked it a lot. Strangely they never grew.

Hi all Smile

Sorry to hear so many of you are feeling poorly still thats rubbish, I am paranoid about flu now since dd was so seriously unwell with it! Will be getting my flu jab and dds nasal spray in the next few weeks, can I urge all of you to think about getting yourself and your kids done as well please! Would not wish what we want through on anyone Sad

On a lighter note - its Friday woo hoo

Got my childcare bill for Sept £88 - ugh. Can't wait for next year and to be childcare bill free finally!! Otherwise a LSD £1.50ish on sweets and milk.

WreckTangled · 30/09/2016 17:24

I had my flu jab today Smile

Collieballs · 30/09/2016 17:34

Our flu jabs are next week. we had a text from the GP surgery saying we need them. Thanks asthma! Grin

Sainsbury's just delivered. It's a good job I managed to get to the front door before the delivery guy drove off. DH was sorting it all out and I immediately noticed that it wasn't as much shopping as usual. The driver went back to the van and found 2 more crates! Phew!!

Beginning to feel better now. What a weird bug.

I keep looking at the Oasis clothes website. I honestly wish all my clothes were from there. They are gorgeous! I have noticed I only really suit black and dark coloured clothes Blush totally not frugal related. Sorry.

AGenie · 30/09/2016 17:38

My ds is counting down to Christmas, which was a bit of a shock just now as I normally buy his Christmas presents in the Tesco Boost, and that's not on this year. I'll have to think a bit harder now.

SnugglySnerd · 30/09/2016 17:41

I've gone off my cat too a bit, Em, got in from work and he'd been sick all over the carpet.
Great news about your little one, Italian and I love that amazing cake, life!
Hope poorly people are on the mend and can rest up over the weekend.
I love hearing about Jersey and Denmark. They are both places I would like to visit. DH has read Operation Zigzag, he loves books like that and has an excellent knowledge of history as a result. When I read historical novels I have to keep asking him to explain bits even though I did A level history
NSD but DH is having a night out with friends and I doubt it will be frugal!

CremeEggThief · 30/09/2016 17:43

Spends: £7.80 bus fare, £1 on a cup of tea and a chocolate muffin at a Macmillan coffee event and £1 to a beggar.
