After tea (Thai coconut & lime cod, yum!) I'm going to crack on with transferring the savings to the other bank.

wreck the food bank will be grateful for anything Flowers

SnugglySnerd · 29/09/2016 19:50

I'd happily pay more tax for those educational benefits for my kids, Italian. I'd also happily pay more tax if things like public transport and maternity/parental leave actually improved!

Eva50 · 29/09/2016 20:16

Denmark sounds like my kind of place!

I had hoped for a NSD but ds2 (19) needed me to take him to get new trousers and boots for work. He paid for these himself thank goodness but then convinced me to head to Tesco where I spent £16. Frugal win! I sold two things on Gumtree tonight so £25 to the good.

ItalianWiking84 · 29/09/2016 20:23

Your all more than welcome here, we're in general quite a nice bunch of ppl Wink
Snugly: public transport is not great here, especially not out of the bigger cities so most ppl drive themselves
I have 52 weeks of paid maternity leave (getting paid my normal salary) and dh have 10 weeks. The leave starts when baby dd is born so now I'm on pre leave which starts 8 weeks before expected due date

WreckTangled · 29/09/2016 20:25

I gave my friend a box and she gave me some food to put in mine Smile nsd!

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/09/2016 20:52

Oh, and I switched my mil energy provider (£315 saved) & turned the water temp on their boiler to 55c. It was set to 60c before.

Valued opinions website is not playing ball tonight.

ItalianWiking84 · 29/09/2016 20:54

Very nice of your friend wreck...

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/09/2016 20:55

Hey welcome back blue. You cut your days didn't you, I take it that was still stressful?
Collie sound pretty bad, maybe worth getting it checked out tomorrow.

Reading on.
Nsd as I didn't get a lunch break. Totally justified my mixer by admiring it on my worktop as finished cake 1. Haven't decorated cakes like this, ever.
outs self if you know me on Facebook don't say please

WreckTangled · 29/09/2016 20:58

I know Italian. She's as poor as us right now and had the food ready to give.

Life that's amazing!

Collieballs · 29/09/2016 20:59

Wreck you've given me a brainwave! Going to sort through my cupboards and donate the tins / packets of food that we aren't likely to eat. We've hoarded a few things that we don't like. There isn't a lot but they are grateful for anything! And it means it won't get wasted and I don't have to needlessly pack it and unpack it in the new house.

needastrongone · 29/09/2016 21:00

Good switches there for mil Fluffy.

Denmark sounds fab Italian.

Waves at Blue.

I think the skirt will go for more than £20 Boob, seemed too good to be true. They are £45 full price I think.

Boxercise tonight, which I REALLY didn't fancy, but was brilliant once I turned up and just did it. Really tough session though. £5 for pain!

Collieballs · 29/09/2016 21:00

E.g no idea where the tin of peas or the tin of carrots came from. I definitely didn't buy them. In date and from Tesco so they can get donated Blush Smile

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/09/2016 21:03

Oops sorry should rtft before posting. I see you answered already blue.
Italian your dd sounds fab telling the door off.
I didn't know there were no trains on Jersey either snuggly.
Ah that's a good friend wreck.

Shesgotelectricboobs · 29/09/2016 21:08

There use some to be trains on jersey. But they haven't run since the occupation in ww2 I think. My papa told us about them (he was 94 when he died).

I think they were used by the nazis for transporting stuff to the west coast to build defences (to make the slaves build the defences)

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/09/2016 21:08

life your cakes are amazing. If I tried that it would look like an example of failure.

Collieballs · 29/09/2016 21:20

That cake is gorgeous!!

italian I've just been reading about Danish parenting. I love it! Simply fantastical Blush hope your DDs head is OK.

Er ,almost bought two books tonight on Amazon. I hate 1 click ordering!! Step away from the books.

ItalianWiking84 · 29/09/2016 21:28

Life: amazing cake Cake and yeah dd is a tough cookie...
Need: Denmark is in a lot of ways quite fab but by no means perfect. But couldn't imagine living anyway else and have lived in Scotland, England, Netherlands and Luxembourg so think I've tried a bit lol

ItalianWiking84 · 29/09/2016 21:30

Collie is Danish patenting really different to uk? Hadn't thought about that...

mammymammyIRL · 29/09/2016 21:36

Cake is fab life
Em would love to hear more about your mindfulness course

Italian hygge sounds fab x

Spendy evening but happy evening too. False nails, tights, and lashes in primark plus a beautiful cushion for au pair for Christmas. Hair band in Claire's for wedding & a few essentials in TESCO like dishwasher tabs (housekeeping institute approved 90 for 6.99 should see us to Christmas) toothpaste.

Shesgotelectricboobs · 29/09/2016 21:42

No longer want my cat. She has just done the hugest stinkiest poop. And while I was sorting out her litter she farted. Cat farts are the absolute worst. 🐈💨

AGenie · 29/09/2016 21:42

Shesgotelectricboobs I had no idea that Jersey was occupied. Yikes! (sorry, I'm too straight-laced to call you Boobs. Excellent name though. BlushSmile)

Does anybody else find it hard to remember who's who after name changes? I'm struggling to remember everyone's back story after so many name changes. I wondered if there are any hints, or if I just need more memory.

Cag Thanks for the recommendation of the maths for mums and dads book. Dh read some of it and it said that a magnetic dart board was great for 6 year olds as it helps the 2 and 3 times tables and subtraction. We got one today and ds loves it. Yay! Also great for practicing our socialisation skills.

Apart from that I've had a LSW. Smile

Mummyshortlegz · 29/09/2016 21:53

Tomorrow I've got to take ds1 to see his dietician so we will need to pay to park at the hospital. We are out of butter and milk but I've got £5 in my purse so can spend that. I'm hoping not to go to Aldi until Monday. Fingers crossed!

Shesgotelectricboobs · 29/09/2016 22:01

genie yep. Jersey was occupied for a good few years. It was liberated by the uk a full year after the end of the war I think that's right

They reckon that at least 20000 slave workers were shipped here and forced to work. And work. And work.

There is an excellent museum here in the old german nazi underground hospital. It used to be super creepy and old hospital. But they closed it about 10 years ago and did it up. It now focuses on the occupation of the island and the lives of the people.

You walk through and move through the time of the occupation. There are lots of things to reflect on. My nan and papa were against "the Germans". All of them were evil.

There's an interesting piece in the museum about the german soldiers just being normal people. Some great pics of them on the beach. Chilling. I think they used to be sent here from the front line for recoup.

One of the questions they ask is "would you help this german soldier?" shiw picture of guy in uniform. Another question "would you help this young man?" Show pic of young german guy in his shorts and a jumper enjoying an ice cream. It makes you think.

There were a lot of, not sympathisers but I can't think of the right word, sympathisers. Who helped the Germans fed them clothed them etc. I guess it was the lesser of two evils.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 29/09/2016 22:03

Hi all signing in late again, welcome back blue sounds like you have made the right decisions there for your family. The good thing with being medically trained is there will always be a job when/if you feel ready to go back to it.

Glad to see its not just me getting muddled with the maths homework Grin the question still makes no sense to me!

So have been to an open evening at the local secondary tonight, its an outstanding school and I actually feel quite excited for dd to be going there! It looks awesome, so many opportunities Envy dd still doesn't seem in any way grown up enough for secondary though, she still likes playing with her lego and teddies bless her.

NSD today Halo

CremeEggThief · 29/09/2016 22:08

Welcome back to the former BlueTeapot.

There's actually a book out now about The Joy of Hygge. I quite fancy it. I feel all Hygge at night, curled up under a blanket, with my fairy lights, candles and lava lamp.

Amazing cake, Life.Star

Spends: £9.70 travel, 80p Greggs cheese roll, £16.25 Lidl, but I'll get most of that back, as my sister asked me to pick up waterproofs for my niece. They have some for most ages between 18 months and 8, if any Frugaleers need some. £45 for DS's birthday meal, but that included 2 large glasses of wine, a lemonade, a latte, a hot chocolate, 2 pizzas, 2 desserts and a tip, so very good value, IMO. The buses had stopped running to our village by the time we finished at 8.45, so we had a 2.5 mile walk home. Probably just as well after all that food and the stars were beautiful tonight.
