Nsd planned today outside of usual fitness class

NK5BM3 · 21/01/2016 07:31

Sorry to hear about your dd spotty and your dh blue. Hope things get better soon in various ways. We know of a little child who had to have casts/braces on and they (and the family) have coped remarkably well. Good luck.

laska I think you need to focus on the good out of this and have I suppose a worst case scenario planned. Anything better would be a bonus! It's not nice but having had the mortgage paid is a great thing!! Apparently not something we can do till we are in our 60s and that's if we stay here!

Thanks for all your thoughts about my Oz job. It sounds like I'd dodged a bullet because even the boss man was looking for jobs (although perhaps not necessarily because the place was rubbish but if I'd got the job, I wouldn't have had him as my champion which would have been a pity, coz he seems v nice and supportive). It would have been nice to chuck all this in as well... Did I tell you when I went back to work last week I felt like torching the whole place!!

Anyways, my current boss has now found out about it - not sure how much he knows etc (place? Job? Salary?) but we have a meeting this evening. Hm, might be my opportunity to tell him about my career development plans. Or not?

Ememem84 · 21/01/2016 07:37

Meeting friend for lunch today. Have taken a sandwich to work so will just maybe just have a coffee with her.

Off to a burns night supper thing after work at the Scottish bank. Am wearing my kilt to work.Smile not even a little bit Scottish why do I have a kilt

I've heard there'll be pipers, poetry, whisky goodbye dry January and dancing. Should be fun.

Dh is fussing about his suit. He's left one at work (went to the gym last night and ran there from work) and the one he wants is at the dry cleaners. It's his meeting suit. It's been at the cleaners for two weeks. He has the ticket thing.

He's wondering why its not in the wardrobe. (He's not blaming me for not picking it up) just wondering how it's not here. I've pointed out that he had the ticket. And the cleaners is on the road next to his work. helpful and if he'd asked me to get it I would have (he has been super busy).

Only solution i have is to go to work in jeans. Pick up suit. Change at work. Logical I thought. apparently most complicated thing in the world

It amazes me sometimes how someone who is very clever and smart and super good at his job (fund accountant manager) can't cope with life.

Pay day today!!!

Ipsos · 21/01/2016 07:40

em I know a couple who are both like that. They are great at their jobs but really struggle to keep hold of their house keys and passports and frequently lose their cars and bicycles just because they have no idea where they left them. They have a lot of very complicated schemes to make sure that they can work around these problems when they occur every day

colliepirate · 21/01/2016 07:57

Well done Ipsos jnr! Smile

blue so sorry about your DH. Must be such a worry :(

I think a lodger would be OK. It's all under the section 106 agreement.

Apparently our house is in a high demand area & should sell fairly quickly. I have only just learnt this. I was in complete shock when I heard! Grin yay! Feeling a bit more optimistic after finding that out. I can't see the attraction though. Haha!

laska hang in there. Brew

NK Life is too short to waste in such a horrid environment. Are there any job opportunities within the UK?

SpottyTeacakes · 21/01/2016 08:40

Morning! Think dd might be getting a chest infection. Being the loving parent I am I have sent her off to school after administering some calpol so that I can go and meet my friend for coffee.

I need a new coat and I've seen one I love but it's £85. I'll see how much I get paid as I made £40 on eBay sales.

Dh got paid today so paid an additional £125 off the cc (did the £50 minimum before he got paid) and we're paying off £175 a month as that's all we can afford right now.

Silvertap · 21/01/2016 08:47

Good morning. Does anyone know where the best place to sell an old iPhone 4 with a really badly cracked screen?

needastrongone · 21/01/2016 09:44

Morning.

Silver, I'm not great with phones, Ebay, Gumtree?

Ipsos and Em, you could be describing my DH. Brilliant in his field of work and retains a depth of knowledge second to none. Ask him where he's left his car keys...............not a hope......Smile

Hope DD is ok Spotty

Oh Blue, a bit of a tricky road for your DH and consequently you then. Fingers crossed.

NK See it as an opportunity!

Glad the internet is back on Fluffy, my DC would melt if that happened here!

Audit I wish DH only owed £2! Next years will be horrendous, given he's already paid a decent dividend and will be paying a much larger one before April (due to exceptional year in turnover and the dividend tax changes).

Hang in there Laska Not an easy time.

North DS would not be pleased either!

Hoping for an NSD here, should be no problem.

NK5BM3 · 21/01/2016 10:49

hi collie - there probably are jobs in the UK but I don't really want to move unless it's fab. The reason why the Oz thing was even attractive was because it would get me closer to my extended family (to whom I'm v close to as I grew up with them - so my aunts, uncles, my dad of course, my brother and his family...). so for me, it wouldn't make real sense to say, move to Sheffield as it would mean all that upheaval (change school, change house) to 're-start' again.

my only options if I were to stay in the UK would be to get a job in London - it's 'commutable' but the cost of it is prohibitive. but hey, I might get my sanity back.

Silvertap · 21/01/2016 11:14

Just had a phone call from the bank apparently in relation to a phone call I made last week (which I did to put in a ppi claim). They wanted me to give my date of birth and postcode and the lady was a bit grumpy when I said I wasn't happy to give that over the phone, surely they know who I am if they've phoned me. She wouldn't tell me what she wanted to talk to me about. I've asked them to write to me instead - I think I've been too wary here but I don't think you can be too careful. I think the lady thought I was nuts though.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 21/01/2016 13:16

Silvertap my dh is the same he says you rang me so you tell me so I can confirm who you are and yep they do get right narky at him.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/01/2016 13:27

I would be a bit suss too! I would probably google the number they called me from.

I'm really annoyed I missed a call from hotpoint about my tumble drier repair. Hoping they'll offer me a new one.

£9.96 in John Lewis on coffee and cake.

£27.98 in currys on a now tv box with two months movies and a coffee mug for dh for Valentine's Day. I'm such a romantic. Grin

supermariossister · 21/01/2016 14:18

just sent my s4 off to envirophone should be £63 but its got a little chip so perhaps lower ill see when they email if its worth it.

received phone case which was £3 feel much better though as the back of new one is so slippy so peace of mind.

bought some 2.49 stompeez off amazon in hello kitty, 49p postage so thats nieces easter present for £3.

dp picked up some bits on town washing liquid on offer, sawdust/rabbit food necessary spends, also paid for us to have breakfast together which was nice as i havent been out since new year other than to school, feeling a sense of achievement today!

lilacclery · 21/01/2016 14:35

Thread is moving fast or else I'm not checking in as often as I should.

Silvertap I sold mine to Environfone, not an iphone but sold my last phone to them. Payment was fast and it appeared in my account this morning so I put it straight off credit card. If you're not happy with their offer they will send it back to you.

Spotty my dh will be lucky to get a card this yearGrin That sounds good you're giving him lots of cosy nights inGrin

How are ye all doing with your financial resolutions for the New Year?
I'm definitely making a more conscious effort to pay back credit cards. Have made a couple of mid month payments not just the required one.

I've eaten lunch from home all but one day of the 2.5 weeks we've been back at work, and that was time shortage.

Today I paid in €24.92 into penny saving challenge, didn't get any payments in last week as funds were low.

I saved every week last year for a holiday for myself and dh, and am really enjoying spending the money saved nowSmile we go tomorrow week and I have dinner and taxi booked for night we arrive, a wowcher bought for afternoon tea which can be used in Cambridge/London, tickets for a show, bus home, and dinner in Marco Pierre White's steakhouse all booked and paid for. Have £150 sterling ordered for collection tomorrow and money left in my account to use for card payments also.

I'm finding it so much more pleasurable because the money is there rather than worrying about getting into debt.

lilacclery · 21/01/2016 14:37

Supermario they reduced my payment from €46 to €18.59 due to a scratch on the screen. BUT it's still money so I took it

supermariossister · 21/01/2016 14:42

i am doing good with spending less but i think because i havent been out, we are trying to eat healthier though dp and i both need to lose weight and the children although eating good are getting very lazy maybe with my staying in lately or the general grim weather but they all seem very nah ill do that another day, dont want to go cause ill have to walk which bugs me and i dont want to set a habit so the shopping bill has risen in a bid to have lots of healtheir alternatives available.

I am not doing good with the dc pocket money its all gone to pot with being ill! i was planning on giving £2 a week for jobs done and no attitude ( current problem) but ive not been keeping track of whos been doing jobs and whos been behaving for dp whilst ive been ill so its all gone wrong - im thinking maybe start from this week again? but then am i horrible for missing out the last three?! all a muddle.

the £63 off envirophone will go on food shopping and another bit off ds trip in march.

supermariossister · 21/01/2016 14:42

well i figure it wouldnt be getting used here but if its drastically low i could keep it as a spare as i am pretty clumsy!

Whataboutnodetox · 21/01/2016 15:00

Went into town to do a favour for my sister's friend. I bought ds1 a train in the works it was reduced to £4 and he did a poo in the potty at nursery and has been pretty much clean and dry for the whole week.

BaBaBaBoomBoom · 21/01/2016 15:41

£36 on a pair of Clarks shoes for dd :(
Tried supermarket last time and they have literally fallen apart! And because I'm an awful mother I've bought her boys ones, and will keep them for ds... She's a tomboy anyway!

We are Resolutely Frugal! Frugaleers continuing their new frugal year. All welcome!
5minutestobed · 21/01/2016 15:45

NSD here but did get a Tesco shop delivered, £53, will try not to spend much over and above that. Home with DS today as he's full of the cold and its raining, so bored of this weather, roll on summer!
Put some stuff on ebay, my plan from last year which I will keep going is that I only buy clothes if I can fund them by selling old clothes. Need to get some more maternity tops so keeping an eye on ebay.
DH got a new phone through work so he is going to sell his old one which should bring in some cash.
Sorry your DH is ill blue my DH took ill suddenly a few years ago and it was very scary and stressful. Hope he recovers quickly.
Still struggling to keep up with this thread, might have to start my own spreadsheet of who's who!

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/01/2016 16:28

NSD.

CamdenTownie · 21/01/2016 16:52

Nsd - but I did order ( on account) school shoes for both dd's, I chose four different styles to make sure at least one pair fit, dd2's shoes were in a right state when I picked her up from school, I'm sure they didn't look like that this morning! Most of them will be sent back and I'll pay them off when they arrive and we know which ones we are keeping, they range in price from £20-£45 so fingers crossed the cheaper ones(in the sale) fit well.

babsmam · 21/01/2016 17:57

£54 on dog medication. £7 on fitness. Dh took the kids out for tea £6.50 so tonight burgers become mince in the slow cooker tomorrow with dumplings

CremeEggThief · 21/01/2016 18:54

53p on a bottle of water (as DS took mineAngry).
£49.95 on my Sainsburys online order, which will probably come out of my account tomorrow.

Laska5772 · 21/01/2016 19:04

Oh NK missed your job news sorry you didnt get it ..

Thanks all , ill be ok , its the not knowing thats a bugger,
but a big part of me actually wants to take the summer the rest of my life off anyway, so im many ways i might be a bit disappointed if I escape the chop!! (does that sound weird?)

Of course I do need an income, and we were planning on DH leaving his job this year also , but anyway, yep, its wait and see. I have looked at whats out there but wont jump before i'm pushed as: a) im on a 'good' (though not high) wage for the area, and b) if I go before im pushed I wont get my pension pot and more importantly, access to my AVC 'campervan fund', and I dont want to have to wait until im 66 to get hold of that.

The plan always was to go when i was 60, and ive saved in the additional pension AVC, by 'salary sacrifice' for several years deliberately .. (I realise that does sound mad because as you all know i did get myself into debt, but the good thing is that ive never been able to touch that money and it will be enough for my van when i do get it.)

north has DS PS4 turned up with Sony yet?

lila enjoy your hol, now ive become a 'saver' rather than having a credit card debt every month , I love the treats i've saved for even more also ..

£16 on haircut today, I cant believe ive been paying £30 on a 'wet cut ' for so long , (i have short spiky pixie cut so it gets done often ), but since moving hairdresser (as my old stylist left , and i didnt like the replacement) ive realised that the salon ive been going to is really expensive for the island (perhaps it was because it was an 'Aveda' salon and the new one doesnt seem to promote a particular product )

But having moved here from Brighton 9 years ago , I was used to paying higher prices and so never gave it a thought .. Luckily a work mate recommended a hairdresser for me and she is not only is as good as the last one , but almost half the price ! ..

oh, and £4.80 on a huge cheese scone and coffee

Did you all see that bit in news about how women pay a premium compaired to men for so many things ?
