Allgunsblazing · 10/01/2016 21:25

Thank you for the new thread, fuzz.

Thats sad Laska Flowers

Thanks for the new thread Fuzz Smile

Ipsos thats great re your ds and family outings def need to be included in the budget, its the days out and the holidays that I save my money for!!

I have had a busy evening tidying and getting organised for being back at work tomos. Dd has eaten me out of house and home this week Shock think she must be starting a growth spurt or something as is constantly hungry!!

Will get organised and put a Morrisons order in for wed, will eek out whats left till then!

Have used up some old bananas in a banana loaf that seems to have turned out beautifully (if I do say so myself Wink)

Laska5772 · 10/01/2016 22:10

Yes it is , thanks , I realise I am a bit maudlin this evening now so forgive me , (and perhaps I shouldnt write this) , but despite this loss of DCousin and he being one of our contemporaries in age , I suppose I'm getting to that age (58 now) , when I must expect more of this (so shit , Ive finally gone and bought a 'suitable' coat for occaisions like this )..

Dh amd I are fast becoming the 'older generation of our lot (and it seems weird how that has happened IYSWIM !! ) We are Grandparents, our DBs,DSs and Dcousins are mostly grandparents (or about to be) , and our remaining 'oldies', DM, DMIL and DAunt are all 90 or there about, DF not much younger ...

OK .... thats enough, No need to respond,

Just Thanks for listening.. Dcousin was a great guy , I was so pleased to know him ..

Pointlessfan · 10/01/2016 22:12

Sorry to hear that laska Flowers

Ipsos · 10/01/2016 22:28

Laska sorry to hear that you are feeling it tonight. My dm realised the same at a similar age and went out and bought suitable coats for herself and my Dad. I thought it was a very good and positive way to deal with it.

I just turned 40, which is a different age, but one that also bring realisations, so I know of know what you mean.

Whataboutnodetox · 10/01/2016 22:29

How lovely to be able to say that about someone laska, I think it's the most we can hope for in life to be thought well of. My parents are around your age and I know my DM feels similar, still 17 but suddenly grandparents and losing the odd contemporary instead of the generation above. I'm sure your coat will serve you well, I'm 33 and have a good black coat for these things, mine is from Laura Ashley and a few years old now but it'll last years. A shoulder squeeze to you.

CremeEggThief · 10/01/2016 22:50

Sorry for your loss, LaskaFlowers.

AuditAngel · 11/01/2016 00:58

Hello everyone.

Yesterday was expensive £4 parking for Panto, £25 for lunch for DD1 and I. I would have preferred the pub, which would have been cheaper.

Today £4 parking for the final Panto show. Got a lovely surprise today, I was expecting DD1's "lunch" money from Panto (if they have 2 shows, they get £5 for a meal between shows) so got £50 today for that. But I also got an envelope for helping out, totally unexpected, £111! That covers all my parking and my meals do is a result.

I am planning on getting "go Jasper" cards for DS and DD1 to use for the next show. I'll get 3 months got free, then £1.70 per month each. I can always stop them after the free period if it isn't working. This will give them the card for their lunches which I can pre-load. I will use some of this money to pre load the cards, plus I need a new pair of black shoes (mine always smell as I have rotten feet, as a result, they need replacing rather than re-soling)

lilacclery · 11/01/2016 05:42

Wow adora that was a fantastic unexpected surprise

574ejones · 11/01/2016 06:49

Audit excellent news.

Quiet weekend, and only spent £1.99 on some groceries. Had a lovely family afternoon playing board games.

Sorry to hear your news Laska

babsmam · 11/01/2016 06:52

SpottyTeacakes · 11/01/2016 06:54

I need to go into town and get my mum and best friend a birthday present. Not sure if I should go today or weds...

Pointlessfan · 11/01/2016 06:58

Thanks for the recipe eastmids.
I almost got rid of my nice black coat recently as I never wear it. I hadn't thought of funerals. Pleased I kept it now.
Have hospital appointment later so will have to pay for parking.

Silvertap · 11/01/2016 07:14

4.85 on coffees at a nature park yesterday. We're both on a diet so without cake it's a lot cheaper than we'd normally have done

£6.00 on a pair of jeans on eBay. I like the gap real straight but they're £45 in store. Thought I'd try eBay as my last pair are on there last legs.

To whoever asked about freezing I do the following:
Quiche
Curry
Meringue
Stews
Bolognese/chilli
Breadcrumbs
Stock

Ememem84 · 11/01/2016 07:29

need not sure how it went with your dh this morning. But mine turned his alarm off. I'm up and am leaving the house to go to the dentist. to spend a fortune dh hasn't yet showered. Despite me telling him I was leaving at 730. He's angry because he now has to walk into work.

Nsd yesterday. Won't be one today. Am expecting a bill of about £80 for dentist. Sad

colliepirate · 11/01/2016 07:54

Hey everyone! Been super busy here so fell off the thread.

Really struggling with making our January pay last until payday without dipping into savings or the buffer fund (DH was paid before Christmas so its a tight month). Would love to manage on the money we have left. Instead of getting stressed over it I'm actually finding it quite fun to plan super frugal meals, outings etc. At least all the bills were paid for on the 4th Jan.

Anyway, Last week was a No Spend Week apart from £2 on the bus on Wednesday. And this week will be a No Spend Week too. (Apart from fuel and fold, obviously)

Ipsos · 11/01/2016 08:15

That's weird Em. Make sure not to let him put responsibility on you for that. He needs to go to bed earlier.

NK5BM3 · 11/01/2016 08:16

Marking! Thanks fuzz! Will read later. School run!

babsmam · 11/01/2016 08:21

NSW well done collie on making necessity fun as stress can be so counter productive.
He's a grown up em, you do not have an extra child.

Ememem84 · 11/01/2016 09:07

Oh it won't be my fault. I didn't turn his alarm off. And he knew what time I was leaving. Told him about a million times. It's funny really. Just as I left the house it started chucking it down. Guess where his waterproofs are....? In the car.

Dentist appointment was cancelled. Which is a bit annoying but it's saved me a bit of money.

Home again now with breakfast. Was tempted to stop at shop for lovely croissants. But have been good.

NK5BM3 · 11/01/2016 09:26

good luck need

it's only 23 minutes into the working day (although I've been on work related stuff since about 7 this morning) - and I already feel like killing someone. I don't think it's got to do with the 'post Christmas blues'. I think it's got to do with this toxic work environment.

I get an email from someone overseas who's been asked to come over here for a week to do something work related. I thought this was all done and dusted and booked for. I forward it to relevant people to say 'is this done?'. I get a reply saying 'this was the last comms I received - basically 'waiting' for me to action things'. when actually, I'd already told them to do it... way back in Nov. I am so crossed.

they want me to do 'strategic level activity' and yet this is clearly very basic operations stuff. Again, I don't have a problem doing the latter. But they can't expect me to do both, and to do them well. grr.

Ipsos · 11/01/2016 09:57

Odd thing has happened here. One of the few things that I can eat has been discontinued in Tesco and one of Ds's staples has changed recipe so that he can no longer eat it. Now I need to find alternatives. Complicated and a bit of a nuisance. Hopefully not actually expensive though.

lilacclery · 11/01/2016 10:04

nk5bm3 handholding at work or at home ememem is very frustrating.

I have spent €3.63 this morning on aliexpress.com

2x 6 shaped animal ballons for dd & her friends shared birthday party
2x USB car charger as mine & dh's no longer work
7x bracelets(these will be a work expense)
1x weight loss toe ring magnets (worth a shot at only 39c I thought)Grin
For this money I got the joy of shopping online tomorrow and will have multiple nice packages delivered to me as well
