Hope it's okay to start the new thread since the other one is already full
£1 at Cornwall Ambulance shop for 3 books for dc after I dropped off my old slow cooker and some books and £1 at Prospect hospice for some wool and fabric
Just made cauliflower cheese with some bacon and cavolo nero for dh who had it for lunch and there is enough for his dinner too, the rest of us are having homemade burgers, buns and wedges

I do love lidl. I must go more often.

Frugal win for today was 72p for 2 cod fishcakes, 69p for a big pot of lactose free yoghurt.

Going back to soups, they have bags of carrots and parsnips for 39p each at the moment. Would probably make a couple of batches of fairly cheap soups with the the addition of some herbs/spices.

£8.23 in Lidl

Ememem84 · 03/11/2015 21:59

50p on bondaweb in sewing class.

Laska5772 · 03/11/2015 22:43

good frugal day.. spent 49p on mushrooms and 36p on celery today - both reduced..

Breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs i already had in and lunch was more 'garden soup'.. I perused Tkmaxx lunchtime, but didnt buy ..

Best Friend over to dinner this evening (she brought wine) I made salmon prawn and edame beans (all out of freezer) rice noodles with mushroom peppers and sesame soy chilli lime peanut sauce .. YUM..

All good , and the freezer is starting to have some 'holes' in it now!!

lilacclery · 03/11/2015 23:00

Alarm going off in 6 hours & ds is already up crying for mommy, if I don't collapse with exhaustion from this guys teeth I never will! Little rascal will be sound asleep when I leave for work thoughSmile

babsmam · 04/11/2015 06:16

Nsd planned today but it is so busy I can't fit a shop visit in.
Pointless

babsmam · 04/11/2015 06:18

Sorry post too soon.

Pointless maybe ask for an assessment from your gp and a dietician for more advice if you are worried.

Stellar67 · 04/11/2015 06:28

This thread goes like a rocket! I've been really inspired and spending a lot less. NSD today.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/11/2015 06:36

Nsd planned today. Beef casserole for dinner.

Dd has woken up limping and crying that her knee hurts Confused

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 04/11/2015 07:00

NSD yesterday. That's what working 0845-22.30 will do for you. I am involved in an extra-curricular activity all week until Saturday each day after lessons which runs well into the evening - it's fun but I am already exhausted! And I am supposed to be revising maths for my QTS maths exam.

DH and I have both ended up with small balances on our CCs again (one card each) due to bad planning and a car repair. We are on a spending fast until Nov payday in hopes of completely clearing them both and cutting his one up.

Will be an LSD today as will need to buy a sandwich or something for dinner after work.

SayAGreatBigThankyou · 04/11/2015 07:04

LSD here too - just need to get a couple of bits from supermarket. Aim is less than a fiver.

Pointlessfan · 04/11/2015 07:50

Thanks babs I'm going to make an appointment with the gp to discuss everything.
Inspired by HFW I have been looking at the Lovefoodhatewaste website and there are some good ideas. One thing I'm going to start doing is putting bits like cauliflower and broccoli stalks, carrot tops etc in the freezer until I have enough to make stock. It also has a useful search thing where you can put in an ingredient you need to use up and it gives you some recipes.

Collieputthekettleon · 04/11/2015 07:51

Oh yes lilac I had one look at jobs up there and there were so many, so I started applying straight away Smile then realised the best houses up there were about £50k less than our current mediocre house!

LSD today. May go into town to buy new ballerina pumps.

Made £35 on StubHub by selling tickets. StubHub is so hard to use and they don't pay you until after the event takes place Confused such a shame you can't eBay tickets anymore. It means we won't get our £35 until mid December. Bunch of eejits.

Ememem84 · 04/11/2015 07:57

Today should be LSD. I have to post some eBay sales and buy lunch.

That's it.

Dh is going to the shops today for fruit and veg. And I'm planning on making a soup tonight for lunches tomorrow with the leftover veggies. Butternut squash and carrot.

Shop spend - estimating £40. We need cereal and milk and a few other staples.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/11/2015 07:59

Ok wrt to Christmas present buying who would you buy for in this situation? (We don't buy for adults)

Bil has a gf. They don't live together but have a 1yo ds. They're pretty on and off. Obviously we buy for nephew but the gf also has 3dc 7,15&18. I don't want to buy for her other dc we only see them 1/2 times a year and I'm not too keen on them

riverboat1 · 04/11/2015 07:59

Hi all. I have participated in this thread in the past, need to come back to it as am planning to take a trip to visit a good friend in the US next summer. Worked out the costings last weekend and it was something of a shock! Need to get into a saving mentality immediately to be able to afford it all.

My goals for November are:

  • Take a packed lunch to work every day (goodbye M and S sarnies)
  • 3 NSDs per week
  • Try to get bulk of Xmas shopping done online and economically
  • Bring weekly shop in under budget every week to build savings in the household account that we can use for the America trip.

The spendy things I have this month are a weekend away with a friend (paid for but liable to be expensive in terms of eating out etc, this friend has a no holds barred approach to spending), replacing our broken oven (but going to try to get one second hand) and booking travel to go and visit family early next year.

ThisTheth is going well so far: this should be my third NSD since Monday if all goes to plan! Have leftover rice and delicious chinese-style aubergines from last night's dinner in my packed lunch today.

needastrongone · 04/11/2015 08:57

spotty How about a selection box each? Even my two as teens love a selection box.

Welcome river, M&S sarnies are lovely aren't they?!

pointless If it helps, I am skinny too. I was a waif while breastfeeding and never really gained much back. Long history of irregular/no periods. GP referred me for a bone scan recently and it was totally normal, no risk of osteoporosis. I think it's just me, I don't often sit still and 2 DC in 18 months probably didn't help. I do feel reassured though.

I just need marg/butter (for baking) and facial wipes today.

HairsprayQueen · 04/11/2015 09:05

Just done car insurance, got £250 off renewal price and stayed with same company as asked them to match go compare price, I can't believe people still just go with the renewal price, there must be some people who do but it's like throwing money down the drain.

So with the money I put away each month for the car minus what the insurance cost for the first time in ages I have a bit of savings! Yay!

SpottyTeacakes · 04/11/2015 09:08

Wow hairspray how much was it to start with Shock

I'm just sorting my phone and broadband. Since calling sse I've remembered how much I like them they answered their free number after two rings! So now it's free for six months then £22.99 for the remaining 12 months.

Collieputthekettleon · 04/11/2015 09:20

I just spent my Tesco Boost vouchers on guest bedding. So got the duvet and pillows for free. Boring or what Sad

Pointlessfan · 04/11/2015 09:23

Thanks need, that's good to know. I never sit still either, always rushing about after DD and on my feet all day at work too. Seeing GP this morning, v impressed they can fit me in straight away!
Should be NSD today.

Lovetoknit · 04/11/2015 12:06

NSD today
another wet and miserable day
Watched HFW yesterday with dh and couldn't believe all the waste, especially the parsnips and all that chicken at KFC when so many people go hungry Sad
There is a homeless shoebox appeal for Devon and Cornwall on Facebook so going to knit a scarf and a hat to make one with dc and luckily the drop off is in St Austell Smile; we have done some before which were sent abroad but it's nice to do one that's local [santa]

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 04/11/2015 12:11

Hope the GP can help pointless.

I made leek and potato soup for lunch and the casserole is in the slow cooker.

Collie that is boring Grin but I spent mine on a Barbie for dd for Christmas so just as boring for me!

ipsos · 04/11/2015 14:16

That's good to know that others are skinny too, post babies.

Spotty that's a fantastically complicated family arrangement. I'd be tempted just to buy for the little one that you're related too, but I can see that that might be tricky. I wonder, can you ask your BIL what would be appropriate? It's possible that the other three have lots of other relatives buying for them and your one present for his baby will just nicely balance the things the other kids get from their family.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/11/2015 14:27

I know ipsos he's the black sheep of the family Xmas Grin we do our best to avoid them! We did buy for them last year but didn't get thanks so I'm inclined to not bother. I don't even want to buy them selection boxes!

CremeEggThief · 04/11/2015 14:40

I was going to say just get them a token gift like a selection box, Spotty, but as they didn't say thanks, just get the little one something small.

Hope all went well at the gp, Pointless.
