Hope it's okay to start the new thread since the other one is already full
£1 at Cornwall Ambulance shop for 3 books for dc after I dropped off my old slow cooker and some books and £1 at Prospect hospice for some wool and fabric
Just made cauliflower cheese with some bacon and cavolo nero for dh who had it for lunch and there is enough for his dinner too, the rest of us are having homemade burgers, buns and wedges

spotty oh no!!! Hope you feel better soon.

Not sure what today will bring but am hoping for LSD. I'm off work tomorrow and Monday so need to get a lot done today.

lilacclery · 22/10/2015 07:15

Ah guys thread three! I've read & posted very little on thread 2. Will try catch up some day soon.
Here here with big dogs getting a bad name we have a Japanese Akita & a Siberian husky, the Akita is on dangerous breeds list but I'd trust him with my children before I'd trust the husky!

Been crazy busy at work, ds not sleeping & coming down with folliculitis again(€65 doc & antibiotics) only other personal spends has been diesel & health food shop for supplements

Collieputthekettleon · 22/10/2015 07:20

Made £35 on eBay! Really happy Smile will have to spend £10 today but its budgeted for.

sandgrown · 22/10/2015 07:29

DP found a company on internet that buys scrap cars. They came the same day and paid him £125 so might be worth a look?

bbcessex · 22/10/2015 08:39

Thanks for the new thread.. this one currently loads much more quickly on my phone.

Sorry to hear about the about the car - bloody wasters - bad news about the costly teeth - they can cost a bomb can't they - sorry to hear about the cost for the chauffeur-driven German Shepherd !!! and lol about the aldi wine-testing!

Thanks for the tip on the other thread about ebay: I put an old coat on it, it's sold for (quite a lot of money - yey!) and I qualified for the 'get £30 to spend on black Friday' offer. Thanks to the poster who mentioned it before.. I'm going to dig out more things to sell..

needastrongone · 22/10/2015 08:52

adora The lady that is going to have our dogs will not walk them off lead unless they have been neutered. Ddog2 isn't, he's so dreadfully timid and I have resisted until now because of this. However, he is used to 2 hours off lead every day, lives to run around in a field and would struggle is he saw ddog1 charging around with gay abandon, so I will have to get him done. Funny rule but there you go.

HairsprayQueen · 22/10/2015 09:05

Should be a nsd. So close to ordering takeaway last night as I didn't know what I fancied for tea. But then I didn't know what I fancied from the takeaway either so just gave up and had a cup of tea for dinner, not the best health wise but a win for the budget!

The man is coming tomorrow to quote us on a new boiler as ours is getting very near the end of its life. I'm kind of thinking it will need doing before we sell so we might as well get the benefit for as long as possible while we live here, might think differently after he's been though. I'm going to ask my mum if she can loan us the money to save interest, won't lose anything by asking. But need to get my haggling head in gear to talk to salesman tomorrow!!

Girlfriend36 · 22/10/2015 09:26

Morning all, got dd off school today as she has been complaining of a headache for 2 days. Hoping a quiet day will help although I have woken up with a headache as well hoping its not something like what spottys got!!

Fridge is empty so need to venture out to the shop at some point though....

northender · 22/10/2015 09:35

Thanks for the new thread Smile

Annatha have you tried the website scrapcarnetwork? It's run by a firm local to us but with a national network of dealers. You will get an online quote (we got £20 more for driving it to the scrappie). When we took the car in they advised us always to go through the website as the price is £10 more online.

fuzzpig sorry to hear you're signed off again.

Feeling quite down this week. I've come off my anti depressants and really don't want to go back on them . We're still having a hard time with dd and school. She's so stressed and easily upset, Y6 seems just to be an exam factory Sad, totally different from when ds was Y6 3 years ago. Dh's work hours are unpredictable and he's very stressed at the minute too. He works in prison service finance and the cuts are really hurting now, there is no money for anything beyond the minimum and sometimes not even that. No pay rise for 5 years doesn't help motivation levels either.

Trying to keep focussed on being frugal. We're away for half term with a group of friends (20 of us) we always spend October half term with. I'm in the middle of a huuuuge Tesco order and will, as usual, be in charge of the cooking. Trouble is, this year we're staying in an area where there doesn't seem to be huge amounts to do without spending money, but we'll do our best.

Sorry for long, self pitying post. Will try to keep smiling!

Collieputthekettleon · 22/10/2015 11:57

northender that sounds hard. I'm sorry that you feel so low. I remember when DH was stressed at work - he'd was physically sick before going in at 8am. It was awful. And I'm really sorry to hear that your DD is struggling in yr6. Is she hormonal? I used to cry at nothing in year 6 and then my periods came along and I was fine. I remember sobbing because a teacher said my name. Blush that's all it took! I also remember my friends DD getting stressed when she was 7 because of the exams that she had to revise for. That was years ago. But its so so wrong to put children under so much pressure.

Half term sounds like it'll be fun. Chin up chuck Flowers

I just got my weekly shop down to £49. No idea how. Confused but feeling very pleased. My hands are totally swollen from arthritis. They look like shiny bananas.

Collieputthekettleon · 22/10/2015 11:58

fuzzpig Flowers for being signed off work.
spotty get well soon!

Lovetoknit · 22/10/2015 13:02

spotty fuzzpig and anybody else not feeling well, hope you all get well soon Flowers
NSD today plus frugal win - got some offcuts for kindling from local timber buildings merchant for free Grin
Our electric tariff runs out at the end of the month so after some price checking dh called Eon but never managed to finish the call as it took forever and he had to go back to work. And they won't talk to me because the account was going to be in his name. Why can't they do joint account is beyond me? Confused
We also have Siberian Husky and he is a real softy but really strong so only dh can take him out for his walk/run and only on his lead since Apache no longer comes back when you call him. I wanted a smaller dog so dc could take him out but dh fell in love with the bread after we saw one at rescue home. We had to get a puppy because they wouldn't let us adopt a rescue dog or a cat since dc were 1, 5 and 6 at the time.

ipsos · 22/10/2015 13:06

Sorry to hear about your hands Collie.

We're having a decent sort of day here. Dh is on holiday and we had a nice walk into town, just the two of us.

ipsos · 22/10/2015 13:08

I've got ebay something and I wondered if anyone could give me tips on getting advert right so people want to buy it?

It's a computer bit I'm selling called Hauppauge PVR-150 TV Tuner PCI. It's a wire and computer card that connects a computer to a video player or set-top box so you can watch tv on the computer.

We bought it on ebay but it doesn't work in our computer because we have too much memory in the computer.

Thanks!

fuzzpig · 22/10/2015 14:33

Thank you fellow frugaleers Thanks

I'm cheering myself up with catch-up telly. I know it's for the best really (erm, the signing off, not the telly! Although that is helping! :o) as I'm just not well enough to do a physically demanding job. I'm extra upset because I miss a huge event that I instigated and planned a lot of, so I don't get to see it actually happen! I may have cried on my manager about that. Blush A lot of people have reassured me that I'll still get the credit, which is really lovely of course but it's not why I'm sad IYSWIM, I was just so excited to be there for it. But they're still letting me be involved from afar, there's stuff I can do on the computer so I'm doing that, and I know that is much more sensible than forcing myself in and, due to the nature of the beast, getting far more ill in the long term.

ipsos can you get inspiration from the listing you bought from? Not copying it exactly of course. Or search it on Amazon and see what they say on there? Sorry I'm useless with tech!

ifonly4 · 22/10/2015 14:37

Fuzz - sorry to hear about your news, you don't want to be worrying about money when you can't work. Hope things will be better soon.

We've got £25 cash in the house and nothing we can withdraw from bank accounts until 31st. Old friend phoned up though, so we went for coffee and cake, so that's £3.90 cash gone - had a good time catching up though. £5.24 in Lidl (on credit card) - tomatoes, can tomatoes, carrots, bananas, salmon fillets & cheese. Trying to keep cash free for next week with school hols. Anyone got anything nice planned in the hols by the way?

SpottyTeacakes · 22/10/2015 15:01

Ipsos I know nothing about computers so can't really help on that one.

Just found out that dd has a superhero dress up day and space themed disco next month. Why is it always something we don't have? So far it's been alien, bug, spotty, whacky. Never princess, cat, witch, fairy, dragon.

annatha · 22/10/2015 15:24

Thanks for the website north, will have a look. Hope you're feeling better soon, hopefully going away and spending time with your friends will help. Could you take a load of board games along for cheaper nights in to try and make it more frugal? If there's lots of you a tournament style night could be fun. Its awful the pressure that y6 are under these days.

annatha · 22/10/2015 15:27

ipsos when I sell something other than clothes I always search for the item on eBay already to give me an idea about pricing and how to word my listing. I think with technology its important to include the specifications so you could always copy and paste these from the manufacturer's website or somewhere like amazon selling it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/10/2015 15:55

I do that too anna.

fuzz The GP wouldn't sign you off for no reason, long term your health is much more important.

north Is that an expected side effect of withdrawal?.

£16 on a cosy throw for the sofa and I found a draught around the loft hatch so I stuffed loo roll in it.

bbcessex · 22/10/2015 16:04

sorry fuzzpig, I didn't see that you'd been signed off . I can understand how disappointing it must be to miss out on the success of a big project you've been working on.. no wonder you're upset.
I'm glad to hear that your work have been support and are keeping you involved; sounds like you'll be needed x

northender · 22/10/2015 16:19

You're all so lovely, thank you for your support and encouragement Smile
annatha the good thing is that we're all in a similar position financially I think so yes there will be board games and, food wise, we will live as much as we can from the tesco order. It should be okay.

northender · 22/10/2015 16:21

fluffy I'm not sure if it's a side effect but I'm determined to stay off them for now so am trying to draw on some of the strategies I learned in counselling.

574ejones · 22/10/2015 17:02

Sorry so many of you are feeling unwell. Girlie if you are both getting headaches, have you got a carbon monoxide alarm?

£3.05 on lunch as was far too ravenous to eat just the sandwich I made today.

Girlfriend36 · 22/10/2015 17:05

Sainsburys shop was £98 Shock however got £14 off in vouchers so actually spent £84 and off that £56 was in the half price toy sale!! Have bought enough to do all the kids Christmas presents that I buy for as well as 3 lots of January birthdays, was more than I realised though, all the £2.50s and £4.99s added up quite quickly Hmm

Will catch up properly later on.
