Scruffy, yes, ideally it's a NSD or whatever you can do to keep it a LSD. Having said that we all have to live our lives. I tend to do lots of small shops so always having a LSD - today need bananas, milk, yogurts, kidney beans and cans tomatoes - I walk up hill carrying this home so keeps my mind focussed on only buying what I can carry!

I'm fairly good at buying what we can afford as I worry about not being able to pay credit cards and overdrafts (as you never know what's around the corner to add). If you can clear or reduce your CC, that'll be less interest to pay and money in your pocket.

I've got quite good over the last year at only buying what I need clothes wise. Have bought a cardi recently and Gap have one I like, but it's £45 - hanging on as I know they often have sales. Found some coats I love on M&S online, but after looking at the five coats I already have I'm resisting.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/10/2015 10:28

Should be a nsd today as I'm not going anywhere. Got more washing to do and need to hoover the whole house.

Ememem84 · 19/10/2015 10:39

scruffy I'm attempting as many lsds as I can (in the hopes they'll be nsds). I'm slowly paying off my credit card (only £690 to go - I get paid on weds so can pay a huge chunk off then with hopefully the remainder being paid off in November payday).

I'm selling bits of eBay and am trying to be more Eco in an attempt to save (walking to work instead of driving and spending £7.5 a day parking, taking lunch with me etc).

We are saving for our forever house so want a nice huge chunky deposit and a teeny weeny mortgage.

Incidentally a letter arrived this morning from the bank re our existing mortgage. We can pay off up to £25k a year in a lump sum. We have this saved - but is allocated for new deposit. Tempted to throw this at mortgage now to reduce outstanding balance to get more capital back when we sell. Thoughts? What would you guys do?

ipsos · 19/10/2015 10:58

I would always pay off the mortgage first Em. Get rid of the pesky interest payments.

blueteapot · 19/10/2015 11:25

Em it depends on the rate on your savings vs the rate of the mortgage - if its truly spare (not your emergency fund etc) and the rate of the mortgage was more than you are getting in interest then I'd put it in there until you get sorted with your next move for defs. Wish I had that much to overpay, we only really chip away small amounts but it would be lovely to see the back of the mortgage :)

Thanks for all the clothes tips! I need the smarter end of smart casual but comfy enough to move about in as I am a junior Dr (GP trainee with one year left to go!). Just hate clothes shopping as I always feel like a whale. Also a pear 16 bottom / 14 top. Will check out pinterest, good idea! I have resolved myself to going shopping after payday as I am now technically on 'annual leave' so should get paid for part of the month at the end.

That's poo Re: the GP fees Pink, I'm in the north but my understanding of the south is that it can get quite £ for patients :(

Ememem84 · 19/10/2015 11:34

As far as I am aware, savings are earning little to no interest in the bank. I was leaning towards throwing them at mortgage so thank you for your thoughts.

Obviously dh needs to be in agreement too...

We're not looking to move anytime soon maybe this time next year and I think we can move our current mortgage over (but nearer the time will obviously check this out).

blue as you're looking for smart, I'd suggest taking a look at Zara and maybe banana republic for basics. Then h&m primark for tees/cardigans you can team them with. Esp as you're a dr. Don't want to wear super expensive things then get them covered with God knows what...

Or try eBay. I've bought dms one great things from there.

And...look at topcashback and vouchercloud if online shopping. Usually a few discounts/cash back to be had. Good luck!

blueteapot · 19/10/2015 11:40

Lol Thanks Em :) Good thoughts! luckily I don't get covered in quite as much any more as I'm purely community based now, no more hospital! What I need is some sort of personal shopper to pick the things and tell me what looks good vs what I would pick which is black / grey only lol.

If you are going to port your mortgage then I'd definitely consider paying it down now with savings, although someone wiser than me might be along soon to explain why that's a bad plan lol!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/10/2015 11:40

The GP's at work all tend to wear dresses. Lots of boden Grin

blueteapot · 19/10/2015 11:41

I have awful legs spotty! And a big bum so they always ride up when I bend over! (not good if you are examining someone with a relative sat behind!) I do have a few work dresses knocking about. I like lots of pockets for my bits and pieces too lol. First world problems :)

Collieputthekettleon · 19/10/2015 12:35

Just spent £11 on porcelain pens. Got 15% off and 2% cashback. I fancy designing some Christmassy bowls etc. Just for my own amusement! Smile

Collieputthekettleon · 19/10/2015 12:38

Pear shape jeans sound amazing!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/10/2015 12:47

Pear shape jeans do sound amazing. Thank god for hospital scrubs is all I can say. Virtually impossible to look good in and fit every shape equally badlyGrin

bobblypop · 19/10/2015 12:55

afternoon all

I also hate buying clothes, and as a result look permanently like a tramp - hence I am at the moment trying to buy some decent stuff for work.
I am also very short, VERY pear shaped with mahoosive hips/bum. large saggy belly and fairly small boobs. Attractive look!!
but pear shaped jeans sound amazing - must investigate!

Have been to collect my debenhams order. 2 cardis and one skirt are nice. One pair of trousers and one jumper are a disaster so will be going back. I did get a £5 voucher for using click and collect so got 2 basic vest tops reduced from £5 each to £2.50.
It was a bit dangerous being at the shops though...i very nearly bought a new bag, but put it back!
I did get some tights in primark and a nice fluffy dressing gown for dd for her bday...

am now meant to be cleaning and tidying but have managed to take a slice off my thumb whilst chopping carrots for the sausage casserole and it is really throbbing (good excuse) so having 10 minute sit down!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/10/2015 12:59

Wear tights Smile or chinos and tops. In New Zealand where mil is a practice manager the GP's wear shorts and flip flops

blueteapot · 19/10/2015 13:04

Living the dream spotty! How I miss scrubs Rafa :)

ipsos · 19/10/2015 13:12

If it's any help, I'm lamp post shaped and I still can't breath with my jeans done up.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/10/2015 13:26

I've got skinny arms and legs and a fat stomach. No boobs Grin

bobblypop · 19/10/2015 13:29

ooooh yes hospital scrubs. I knew I should have gone into surgery not psychiatry Wink all my clothing dilemas would be over!!

blueteapot · 19/10/2015 13:44

Bobbly when I did my psych rotation I was actually wore... wait for it... the odd pair of HEELS!

AdoraBell · 19/10/2015 13:50

Spent £18 on top up and a bottle of wine, because it was on offerBlush

When I worked outside of the home I wore trousers with tights underneath for winter.

fuzzpig · 19/10/2015 13:54

DCs having cereal for lunch as we've mostly run out of food (at least, food that I'm capable of cooking today) Blush got a cheese sauce out to defrost for dinner (will do with pasta/tuna/frozen veg).

Still, better than a takeaway right? Blush

Ememem84 · 19/10/2015 13:55

Currently in jeans and floofy slippers. But am home. At work I've been favouring brightly coloured tights recently only because I threw out most of my black ones in a fit of pique in April and only have three pairs left

Ememem84 · 19/10/2015 13:55

fuzz yes. Def better than takeaway.

We are having courgette soup.

babsmam · 19/10/2015 13:57

We have no dress code but the office is either freezer like (am) or boiling (pm).
Im an apple, size 10 ish bottom, 10-12 top large nork and rounded tum depending on the cut and shop. I'm off to assess what's left of my wardrobe and get hof vouchers for christmas me thinks

babsmam · 19/10/2015 14:00

Yes fuzz definitely better than a takeaway for health and wallet.

£14 on lunch with dh, who I now know what he looks like again
£2.99 odour neutralise spray
£59 in sainsbury but I put the baking mag back and saved £2.50
