I have hada very spendy w/e so far.
?190 Aldi...that is not a typo
?40.. entry, food and coffee at a cyclocross race
?30...pub with friends later
?15 prague powder

hmmm.... at least it is almost all the food we will need all month and enough prague powder to last a lifetime.

With all the babies due we will need a frugaleer's creche. Good luck everyone.

babsmam · 18/10/2015 07:48

Looks like there will be a vets bill in the offing today. Possibly a new living room carpet too. 3am doggy poonami, nice.
Need to go food shopping too.
190 that must be an aldi record

Unescorted · 18/10/2015 07:51

No.... but I do hold that one already too (?220)

babsmam · 18/10/2015 07:52

Grin unescorted

Collieputthekettleon · 18/10/2015 08:04

Hope babsdog is OK babsmam

I didn't catch up on lost sleep and I woke up at 5 this morning so I'm going to be a right mess later.

My thermostat is set to 17c. Is that too low? I think I'm being too stingy Blush

blueteapot · 18/10/2015 08:38

Poor doggy, could you shampoo the carpet?

£190 in Aldi! I can make you feel better - think how much it would have cost in sainsburys and feel smug at the saving Grin

Anyone got experience of life insurance? Think we might have been duped. Nationwide did ours while we were sorting the mortgage... 4 policies, one each level term (323k) and one each mortgage cover (100k) adds up to £85 a month... DHs are a bit more expensive because he was very overweight (3 stone off and 3 to go) and declared treated depression. He had been declined elsewhere. Should I shop around or is that about what others are paying?? And do you need to inform them of job changes etc?

Unescorted · 18/10/2015 08:49

Spotty No idea about worms, but you have my sympathy.

Babs would it be cheaper to hire a steam cleaner? Or get someone in to do it for you so you dont have to deal with the mess.

babsmam · 18/10/2015 08:49

Thanks. I did the carpet by hand at 3am and sprinkled bicarbonate. I will get the machine out later but I fear it is beyond redemption.

Collie mine is 16. Our house was fully insulated a few years ago (loft, cavity wall) and it is mostly fine. Bath time boost to 18 as it is colder upthere without a landing rad

babsmam · 18/10/2015 08:51

Spotty - pants and Pj's washed too.

Unescorted · 18/10/2015 08:52

Every now and then I think getting a dog would be lovely.... and then someone tells me something that reminds me that I don't like dogs that much.

babsmam · 18/10/2015 08:54

I can count on one hand the amount of house mess I've cleaned in the last 15 years and a bit of having him. This was was the worst and seems to be a reaction to meds. Bless him.

babsmam · 18/10/2015 08:55

You have to not mind picking up poo unescorted that's the worst bit.

blueteapot · 18/10/2015 09:08

Re worms make sure all gets a good hot wash, dose of treatment for household contacts. Poor DD would a bit of barrier cream eg sudocrem help break the itch?

Ememem84 · 18/10/2015 09:13

Am hoping today will be nsd. I NEED earl grey tea. The twinnings one. But when in coop yesterday saw that it was £7 something for a big box (think it contained 80/100 bags.

On Amazon I can get 400 bags for £12.

Anyone know if whether it's pricey in tesco/sainsburys/adds/lidl? Parents are heading to the U.K. So can ask them to grab some.

needastrongone · 18/10/2015 09:14

blue Do you know what you are paying individually? Doesn't look too bad to me, but I am no expert. As an example, DH and I are both insured, my premium is extremely cheap as I am young (ish!), with absolutely no health complications whatsoever. DH costs way more than I do, as he is 10 years old, but, like your DH, declared high blood pressure (not medicated) and his bi-polar. So, I think it may be the 'complications' that push the premium up iyswim?

babs Your poor pooch. Hope he's ok. He's a veteran at 15 isn't he? And not nice clearing up the mess for you. I have 2 dogs, I would feel the same when they get to their older ages, they never mess, either of them.

I agree, a £190 Aldi shop would be about £50000 in Sainsburys Grin

Grin at the wine em. I was asleep at 9.00pm after 2 bottles of 9% cider. Pony is still bucking, I will get his back checked next, but previous owners did this anyway, so I am thinking it's either excitement, or a memory reaction.

too nice refund from HMRC there, good for Christmas.

I was up very early to collect DS from his camp, so he could do his paper round and get back for his breakfast at said camp.

Friends have cancelled a long dog walk with a pub lunch in the middle, so that negates yesterdays spending.

Will meal plan next.

Spends today with just be chicken feed, but I have some returns to take to Next too.

Pointlessfan · 18/10/2015 09:14

I also have beer festival envy! But not dog envy after reading that, I hope both dog and carpet are ok babs.
Yesterday ended up a bit spendy. DH has wanted some new jeans for ages so we went to Next and I bought 3 tops. I haven't tried them on yet and I'm planning to take at least one back. Then I went in Aldi to get a bottle of fizz for my mum's birthday and impulse-bought her some flowers too, possibly I was overcompensating for the tea towel!
Going to defrost the freezer today and give it a good clean/sort out. Am hoping there will be enough space to start some Xmas cooking eg mince pies.

Unescorted · 18/10/2015 09:17

I have volunteered to do the Xmas puds - bit late but they will be OK.

needastrongone · 18/10/2015 09:18

DH is 10 years older, not 10 years old, I am pretty sure there are laws against that Grin

needastrongone · 18/10/2015 09:20

The beer festival was brill. It was a fiver each to get in, but you got an engraved pint glass and a free pint for that. Then, you put money on a card, and used tokens to buy further drinks. I had one beer which was horrible, so I gave to DH, then 2 bottles of very strong cider. One more and I would have collapsed in a heap or done something embarrassing!

sandgrown · 18/10/2015 09:38

Can you return the teatowel Pointless and put it towards the apron for Christmas? My DH does things like that so i can empathise!

bbcessex · 18/10/2015 09:57

ohhelpohno.. it was a brilliant tip... we used to spend loads on dishwasher tablets, and your ebay tip about the broken / rejected tablets was fantastic. haven't looked back since.. didn't know about washing powder too.. I'll go and have a look Grin

Going to read rest of the thread later. Feeling inspired by everyone..

ifonly4 · 18/10/2015 10:08

Spotty, can't recommend any cream. Somehow DD and myself got them at the same time and I remember they were worst in the evenings & night time. From memory I don't think the tablets took too long to work, so if you get them in her as quick as poss!

Obviously goes without saying, but everyone needs to wash their hands regularly, especially DD (and under finger nails) - not sure if it'd make much difference, but maybe use an antibacterial soap.

babs, hope your old man is better soon. Are you going to take him to vet or hang in there? I have 16 year old cats, one of whom has had cystitis in the past so lots of blood stains to deal with and hates going out in the winter, so accidents happen - I've sort of become immune to it.
