Thought I would start a new one since the old one is full!

OP posts:
fuzzpig · 17/08/2015 11:36

I'm very Envy of everyone posting from their holidays BTW :o but it just gives me more incentive to keep saving so we can go away somewhere next year! :)

lilacclery · 17/08/2015 11:54

I would imagine they would let you lodge.

fuzz I've no holidays this year either just 2 nights away this week but booked a really low cost holiday for Jan for me and dh and my christmas club is squirrelling away the money every week for me so that keeps me going. Could you earmark an account with holiday fund? and even coin sweep into it?

fuzzpig · 17/08/2015 11:58

That's a good idea thanks Lilac - DH has a savings account sitting empty ATM so will suggest that!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/08/2015 12:01

Aargh. not a good start to the week. Went to get some cash from the machine and it froze and wouldn't do anything, before spitting the card out. At which point the card stopped working in any cashpoint. Then had to go back to Barclays and queue for ages only for them to tell me there's nothing wrong with the card. By the time I got to the laundrette all the machines were in use so I gave up and went home.

Mysteriously the card is now working. Which is lucky, otherwise it might have ended up being a very, very frugal week.

lilacclery · 17/08/2015 12:55

rafals there are special powers at large causing you to be extra frugal!

I must buy diesel this evening my account balance is 28.22 & there's an Amazon preordered book to come out tomo so €20 for diesel & remainder will cover book without me being charged a referral fee.

Must chase my business account bank €30 still missing after my lodgement got stuck in their machine at end of June.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/08/2015 13:14

Fuzz They cant really refuse if you have a birth certificate and a marriage certificate.

£3.65 on contact lens fluid. I should have bought some in homebargains, it's only £1.99 there but I forgot so frugal fail.

Pretty sure my new bra is going back. It was so comfy in the shop and it's not now.

Frugal win with the washing machine, I've always used the eco button but this week I washed everything on the time saver setting and electric use is roughly the same BUT dh has been at home and he uses lots of energy plus I've had to do a 60c wash twice when usually I wash on cold.

I shouldn't need anything else this week, I just need to make a charity donation to Mind.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/08/2015 13:27

Fuzz I pay in cheques made out to my married name which I don't use. I just take my birth certificate in.

£19.95 swimming
£24 paint in B&Q plus a big argument about how we were paying for it
£24.99 on trainers for dd for school Shock
£16 Burger King

Got an appointment later for retinopathy screening they use drops to dilate your pupils so I won't be able to see for the rest of the day.

lilacclery · 17/08/2015 13:56

spotty no more mumsnetting for you today so, will make a long day for you.

lilacclery · 17/08/2015 13:58

Got a voucher in paper for €10 off school shoes, shop has lots of branches near my parents but any of the ones on my route this weekend don't suit as they're so far it will negate the savings! Sent it to my parent's neighbour who has 3 going to school this year so someone will benefit.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/08/2015 13:58

Grin I will just wear my sunglasses???? yet I obviously won't be able to see enough to cook dinner Wink

Whatabout · 17/08/2015 13:59

lilac the nappy bags and sanitary towels was for use in a travel potty instead of the very expensive liners the makers of the potty sell. I spent £9 on a pack of the liners yesterday, not very frugal!

Spent £14 on McDonald for lunch for us and DS, he very rarely has a happy meal, this is probably his third and it was close to the hospital. We'd been to see his asthma specialist and his consultant. Both had concerns the biggest being his weight, he is 2nd centile and weighs 10kgs at 2.4 so he needed calories!

No spends planned for the rest of the day, but I did spend £20 on 20 books from the works to put away for Christmas / birthdays through the year.

lilacclery · 17/08/2015 15:32

Aah I missed that one. I just wipe potty out with baby wipe and put that and toilet tissue into a nappy bag afterwards but dd doesn't use it for number 2's, well when she used to use potty out and about

Does your ds have high metabolism or is he a poor eater?

TheOnlyPink · 17/08/2015 15:48

whatabout have they given you any advice on upping his calories? Hope his appointments went well otherwise!

lilac totally forgot to get the papers yesterday! Although I still haven't gotten my refund from Thursday's tesco delivery, so not sure they are worth my while. But ds 2 will be starting preschool next week, so actually going to the supermarket might work if I were by myself! The vintage tea rooms sound lovely!!

spotty of course you can't cook dinner, it might be dangerous! Wink hope it goes well tho!

fluffy sympathy for your bra problems. I have big jugs and am sick of ill fitting bras. They are so expensive!

rafals check your account in case they took the amount you tried to withdraw first, without actually giving you the money.

We had a lovely day out, only spent €17 in McDonald's for lunch. Boys are shattered now too, so the house is so quiet! This is the last full week of the summer holidays, and part of me is sad to see them go back, the other part, who has run out of all fun ideas, is really looking forward to it.

Whatabout · 17/08/2015 16:07

Lilac these are for a potty that is in essence just a ring with legs so it folds flat and can be used as a training seat. At home we have normal pottos but he is using the loo more.

DS had cows milk protein allergy but is now ok with milk, but the concern is that he has an absorbing issue. So dietician, monthly weight checks and then investigations. He's got to have genetic testing for a recently discovered cardiac issue my DH has so hoping it's not to do with that. He's asthmatic and on fairly high dose steroids so we are going to trial reducing dose as he is at the max before stunting may occur.

Got to stay off the Christmas thread, I've spent £30 today on books and tepees!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/08/2015 16:16

Dd's on the 9th centile for weight no one has ever mentioned it.

Whatabout · 17/08/2015 16:21

Spotty he was 20th at his last check, 25th at the one before. It's the dropping they are concerned about more than the figure, if he'd always been 2nd then they wouldn't care so much apparently but this is too big a drop. He's a dynamo and just burns off everything he consumes so I'm sure there is nothing really wrong, just an energetic boy!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/08/2015 16:39

Ah ok that makes sense. At least they're looking into it Smile

NSD yippee

needastrongone · 17/08/2015 17:27

what Just to try to provide a little reassurance, DD was the 50th centile when she was born. At 3, she had dropped off the scale. She was a tiny dot of a thing, so much smaller than all of her peers. Ate like a tiny bird. However, she was my 2nd child, and you get rather more relaxed. The reality is, my whole family, the female side is tiny. I am 5ft and 7.5 stone, my mum is, my gran was. So I made sure what she ate was healthy, and calorie dense if possible and tried to get on with it.

The irony is, my DS, who was always on the 75th, is super skinny and I struggle to find jeans he can wear. DD actually bucks the female trend in our family and, although a size 8/10, is much curvier and has boobs etc.

Today I have spent £12 on horse feed and that's it.

However my quarterly M&S vouchers came, a total of £70, so I am up for once.

girliefriend · 17/08/2015 17:29

hi all, well I went back to work today Sad and dd has gone off on her holidays to Cornwall.

Oh well, the insurance company rang re my claim (a lady scratched my car a couple of weeks ago) they guy on the phone was getting me all confused but i think the gist of it was that it should get fixed in the next week or so and all costs will be recovered from the other side.

Whatsa my friends kids are like that, they eat tons but are like rakes. Good they are keeping an eye on him though.

Oh and just thought a NSD Smile

I may even venture out later and do a quick jog round the park!

needastrongone · 17/08/2015 17:29

My SIL, who has 4 DC, whose last DS is the longest and lankiest thing you ever did see (think Peter Crouch). he looked odd as a child, but after 4 kids, she never even took him to the health visitor once!! He's nearly 18, 6.6 and weighs about 3 stone wet through!!

CremeEggThief · 17/08/2015 18:00

Lovely reading all the holiday updates and Fuzz success with piano teaching Smile.
I managed to get into the dentist this afternoon, who confirmed it's a gum infection, and put me on a 5 day Metronidazole course. I think this is the first time I've been prescribed antibiotics with an "Avoid Alcohol" warning. In fact, the pharmacist told me not to drink for two days after finishing them too. Oh well, as long as they do the trick.
The other good news is I got word that I will get most of my deposit back. I had to raise a dispute with the Deposit Protection Service, as my former letting agents refused to return it, the greedy so and so's. Anyway, they have found in my favour, so I will be getting £368.80 of £420 back soonSmile.

I spent £1 today, buying a homemade bracelet from a young girl on the street who set up a stall outside her house, bless her. Always nice to support young enterpriseSmile.

CremeEggThief · 17/08/2015 18:03

Collie, I would have thought your mattress would still be under guarantee at a year? I had a guarantee for 2 years when I replaced mine a few years ago. Definitely worth seeing if you have any proof; even an old card statement might do the trick.

TheOnlyPink · 17/08/2015 18:37

whatabout has he been checked for coeliac disease? I hope that's not a stupid question as you are seeing dieticians etc, but that kind of weight loss is common, as you say, the absorption doesn't happen, as the intestines are damaged. My ds2 and dh are coeliac.
