Fluffy, can you run a dishwasher and a washing machine using the same water in pipe then? And is it okay for the sink, dishwasher, and washing machine to use the same water out pipe?

SpottyTeacakes · 09/08/2015 08:28

Maybe it could be our present to each other for Christmas Grin

needastrongone · 09/08/2015 08:36

Yes, the dishwasher makes a massive difference to my life too. I try and run it full and not wash up at all as I am sure it's cheaper to run the dishwasher than fill the sink.

Hoping for a NSD, maybe LSD. DH has some friends calling in on their way back from holiday, I bought some nibble from Aldi yesterday as I have no idea whether they want a cuppa, a meal a snack or nothing at all!!

Ended up at a friends for paella last night and had a lovely evening.

Meal plan.

Jamie Oliver pork loin steaks with veggies.
Pesto pasta with chicken and extra veggies.
Bolognaise and salad.
Lamb curry.
Veggie or chorizo frittata and potato wedges.
Veg and chickpea curry.
Butternut squash and sweet potato soup, crusty bread.

Will also bake banana bread and buns during the week.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/08/2015 08:43

Yes, you can run the dishwasher and the washing machine off the same supply by using a connecter with two outlets. We used a brass one because the plastic ones leaked.

The washer will drain in a u shaped drain but the dw will have a screw on drain, I forget how we connected that but dh sorted it and he is no plumber so it cant have been that hard.

Even if you run them both together they wont drain at the same time and the dw wont use much water, probably 10l compared to a washers 50l.

I think the water companies should stop fannying around with tap inserts and save-a-flush's and supply subsidised dw instead. There's huge savings to be had.

Spotty I hope you do just that. You've got years of this otherwise and the kids will use lots of plates when they are teenagers and have loads of friends round.

I bought a Miele dw in April but never mentioned it because some of you were having a rough time of it so I didn't confess. It's a brilliant machine though because it only needs to run every other day and it tells me how much water and electric it uses after the cycle ends. I got £370 off it buying it off a builders merchant and used my Yorkshire bank switch incentive towards it too.

Signing in from the first leg of our holiday. We're in Plymouth with the PIL before sailing to France overnight tonight. The weekend has been spendy so far but am still hopeful we'll come in under budget overall. Mil is treating us to tea at my favourite pub tonight so that will be good.
Haven't had time to catch up on all the thread but, Happy Birthday ipsos. spotty, dh & I used to be in the "we don't need a dishwasher" camp. Then we decided to have one when we had the new kitchen, even though we probably wouldn't use it, now they'd have fight us to take it away!! We use it every day, sometimes more if I'm doing lots of cooking, it's liberating Smile

Other news, on the driveway front, we got the quote on Friday from the guy who we were impressed with & who has done work for friends. He came in cheaper than the others we've had and it should be manageable in the next couple of months, woohoo! We've only waited 10 years Grin
Frugal win, Swinton replied to my complaint about the £50 cancellation fee, said it was all correct etc etc but will send a cheque for £50 as a goodwill gesture. Always worth a few minutes spent on an email. You probably won't win them all but you never know.

lilacclery · 09/08/2015 09:16

Marking my place. Was out for dinner last night & had one drink afterwards €45 but it was well worth it because I had a break from monotony of work, house, children.

Tesco delivery yesterday after free delivery & aldi voucher taken off €86, butchers was €39 plus spent €10.60 on top up shop previous day. This leaves €5 of our budgeted €140 should be ok.

I couldn't live without dishwasher either & our water is heated with heating & solar panels but it just takes too much of my precious free time Grin it doesn't work great & last winter I priced around & selected a dishwasher but never got around to buying it. I usually get generous cash gifts at work at Christmas so I'm planning on buying a dishwasher next January with that money.

You are right fluffy about the windows already made a difference simply by being able to open them in the morning.
We have a dw but I also have to wash up every day because dc like to use melamine bowls for their cereals and snacks and also dh has 4 clip boxes in his lunch box.
Dh went diving but we are staying at home so it should be another NSD.
Looks like it's going to be rather wet and cloudy today.

SpottyTeacakes · 09/08/2015 09:31

Where are you Love? Come sunbathe in my garden

ItsAll · 09/08/2015 09:32

Thanks Fluffy, that's helpful.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/08/2015 09:33

I think dw are still seen as a luxury item, I've seen threads on here where posters think dw use more water than washing up Confused so ironically they think not having one saves them money.

My bosch one was fab but the elextrolux wasn't as good.

Lila, you can get bosch and miele ones that connect to the hot water tank supply, but if they are too far apart it wont work as well because by the time it gets there it's still cold.

Do you run your washer off the hot water too?.

babsmam · 09/08/2015 09:35

Ladies need your help. Come home to a glut of red gooseberries, blackberries and beetroot. Need ideas to use them! Will give some away but still overrun.

In the north east if you are nearby Grin

babsmam · 09/08/2015 09:39

Eyes up cupboard and hated range cooker to fit in dishwasher. Now just need the hated oven to break to justify a new one, which of course it won't.

What about looking into secondhand dishwashers? Mine was a gift from a friend - she said it was a perfectly good one but they got a new kitchen and it didn't match, so had been sitting in her garage for 2 years. She wouldn't take anything for it and it works perfectly unless DH doesn't rinse the plates properly. It's maybe worth checking out Gumtree or even Freecycle.

Babsmam, gooseberry fool and gooseberry crumble! Mmm.

Do range cookers sell well on ebay? cash on collection?.

I didn't like our range either, it had halogen for a hob and was generally hateful and messy.

I don't know why gas ovens aren't more popular, they provide instant heat and don't cost anywhere near as much to run.

Confused
girliefriend · 09/08/2015 10:28

Am smiling at your dishwasher love Fluffy I am the same Grin I had the choice of a dw or a tumble dryer and would choose dw everytime!

I have a bosch one and its ace, can't imagine life without it tbh, pre dw I would avoid baking as the thought of extra washing up would put me off!!

Plan today to go on a bike ride, want to pop into town but not planning on spending much. Want to get some vitamins in Holland and Barrett, hoping they might be able to suggest something for my IBS which has been rubbish again lately plus some evening primrose oil which despite my scepticism has improved my PMS symptoms Grin

Will take a picnic and also am thinking some blackberries may be starting to come out so going to take some tubs to pick a few!

peppapissinpig · 09/08/2015 10:43

Babs, for the fruit - crumbles, lots and lots of jam?

peppapissinpig · 09/08/2015 10:46

Ah lost my last post!

Can anyone suggest some cheap reasonably priced pillows that actually keep their shape?
Bought last ones from Dunelm and they are flat after 2 months ????

SpottyTeacakes · 09/08/2015 11:28

Hmm I want a dw now. Shame we haven't got any money!

Were on our second dw, this one cost £25 from a friends mum as she was having her kitchen redone and wanted a white one instead it was less than a year old, we also got a freezer from her for £25 Grin my Dad did the plumbing a while back.

Main food shop today £60 Aldi £50 Asda including a few back to school bits, I have 4 DC the youngest starts school next week, I will not tell you how much it has cost to get them back to school and that's with penny pinching too

TheOnlyPink · 09/08/2015 12:51

We would love a dishwasher. Really thinking about getting one now. We don't really have room for one, but tbh I would be happy to just stick it at the side of the counter.

girlie saw lots of blackberries peeping out over the past few days! Well worth bringing a few tubs.
Love seeing them, Autumn is my favourite!

peppa I got memory foam pillows a few years ago and I love them. They need replacing now as they aren't easily cleaned, but are still comfortable. Only paid €10 each.

Need to get some essentials today, washing detergent, toilet paper, bread and milk. But other than that, we aren't doing anything.
Dh is going to the UK for work tonight. Not home till thurs. We've been living together for 9 years and I'm going to be absolutely lost without him. Sad on the frugal plus side it means he won't need feeding as he has expense card, or petrol for work. Saving about €70.

TheOnlyPink · 09/08/2015 12:53

sweetkitty can only imagine the back to school costs. Only have ds 1 going to school and its ridiculous. Not even finished yet. Penny pinched as best I could, but still crazy.
