I am going to have to work out a budget for dds school uniform, she needs all new polo shirts, new PE kit, new logo'ed sweatshirts and cardigans, her school shoes are also looking very beaten up despite only being a few months old Angry Clarks are rubbish these days I find.

Think she is o.kay for school trousers and skirts as they have been replaced during this year.

I reckon for the clothes it will be £50 at least

Peppapissinpig · 15/07/2015 18:56

Cheapest, hard wearing boys school trousers and plain white shirts??? Age 10

girliefriend · 15/07/2015 19:05

Peppa I have bought school trousers from everywhere over the years and can honestly say it seems completely random which ones last and which ones don't!! Generally I end up in Sainsburys or Asda though as they seem to be the best value for money, although quality is variable!!

Spotty do you mean this one - samsung tablet It looks quite good and not too expensive?

574ejones · 15/07/2015 19:07

Girlie hope you feel better soon. I have also heard good things about the Hudl.

LSD, just £2.28 on milk and a chocolate bar. Can't get my head around the fact that I'm going on holiday next week so need to get my travel money this weekend. Any recommendations for good exchange rates? I usually use M&S.

SpottyTeacakes · 15/07/2015 19:12

574e I use m&s too.

Girlie yes, there's a smaller one too 7" I think.

avocadotoast · 15/07/2015 19:31

574e I used to work in a bureau de change and depending how much you're looking to change I'd check out the little booths they have in Tesco. They aim to match everyone else. Though Post Office do offer excellent rates if you buy over £500 (I think) of currency.

574ejones · 15/07/2015 19:41

Oh great, thanks for the tips - will check that out.

Peppapissinpig · 15/07/2015 19:44

Thanks Girlie, made mistake of buying John Lewis shirts last year. Buttons too big for the holes, nightmare for DS to do up.

ipsos There was a slow cooker thread but I forgot to ask for it to be moved to cc and it's gone. There's a slow cooked wonders facebook page run a mumsnetter. The general advice is bung it all in cold and add NO liquid. I even strain tinned tomatoes and drink the juice.

I use mine mostly for joints of beef or gammon hocks or whole chickens.

Girlie It's not noro is it? poor you.

Aldi school uniform is in a week tomorrow. Get there at opening time if you want it though, it's mostly gone in a day.

£1.40 work supplies
£15 petrol.

Spendy day as went to the range and spent £30 on camping gear.
I reckon sainsbury will have their 25% off next week if they follow the usual pattern which includes uniform. Will keep a look out.

Get well soon girlie

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/07/2015 21:12

Oh yes but the oven consumes more power.

OP posts:
SpottyTeacakes · 15/07/2015 21:16

I gave up with non stick as they all flaked in the end. Got some stainless steel ones and they're doing well. I've kept my tiny non stick for frying chopped bacon Smile

Hmm how much is an sd card? Do you just put it in the hudl and leave it there? Confused

Pointlessfan · 15/07/2015 21:24

Hope you feel better soon , Girlie. Ipsos the thing with slow cookers is that they use a lot less power than the oven. If you kept the oven on for that long it would cost loads but the slow cooker uses the power of a lightbulb (I learnt that from this thread!). We bought one in Asda for £14 about a month ago and I'm a convert.
I think this is going to be an expensive month. DH and I both have some social events going on, including a wedding, a Christening and catching up with some good friends who live abroad but who are visiting. Plus my knee isn't showing any sign of getting better so looks like I'll be shelling out more for physio - it was another £40 today.
I've also spent £53 on petrol and £2.50 on cakes in a charity cake sale at work. Tomorrow I'm on a school trip to a theme park so I've already spent £1 on a magazine to read (which will annoy me, I am always intensely irritated by magazines, especially at this time of year when they are just about bikinis and beach hair styles) and will no doubt buy drinks, ice cream etc tomorrow.

girliefriend · 15/07/2015 21:29

Hi thanks for the get well soon wishes Smile am in bed now, not been sick again so hoping it was a one off

Couple of nsds. Received a £20 gift card for birthday. Yay!

The Sainsburys 25% thing is on or will be soon. I received a preview today.

Laska42 · 15/07/2015 21:50

Hi all , have been everywhere on MN but here!! (and now its time for me to turm off Pc and get a bit of kitchen cleaning done before bedtime!

Frugal win today .. two minimiser playtex bras in TK maxx for 4.99 each ..
and 4 bottle of Franka extra hot sauce ( my fave and usually quite expensive) for 50p each inthe 'penny lane' store in town.. thats good considereing all ive spent this week

Did I mention the car had a service yesterday and MOT and it cost £435? Shock .. ( and there was nothing wrong with it !!, but the service and MOT was nearly £300 to start with . (3 yr service on car and its first mot) Then the rest was for stupid things like repumping the air con (we never use it) and pollen filters etc .. POLLEN FILTERS??!! WTF are they? !! oh and checking the fancy electrics it has (and it doesnt have onboard computer or sat nav or anything likethat ) ...

Oh.. for the days of good old basic Fords I say !! Its not a posh car either just a standard Honda civic saloon (anyway Dh paid for it .. his car.. his bill) Grin

I used my slow cooker today for spaghetti bolognese, I have Tefal one so you can put the inner pot on the stove to brown the mince and vegetables and and then transfer the inner pot into the slow cooker. I chopped the veg last night, finish the prep this morning and let it cook on slow till dinner time and it was yummy. I have done the same with chilli too. It's good for casseroles and stews.

babsmam · 16/07/2015 06:36

I would go for a lamp collie. Not sure it's more frugal but certainly cosier.
I'll get my mam to wave at you at the show needa she goes every year to the gys.
Lufs my slow cooker but it seems to be more a winter thing here. Must rectify that. Slow cooker wonders is great and really funny when it kicks off!

Just wondering if I will regret my cheap sleeping bag and if I should change it for the vango one but its twenty pounds more.

Nsd today too much rushing about yo do to spend money.
