Everyone welcome.

Thanks guys - liking you already! Need to get better at planning food shopping and pre-cooking/freezing food. Reckon I spend far too much unnecessarily because I seem to be time poor and end up not shopping properly so have to pick up extra during the week (and inevitably pick up 'extra' extra!). Would love to get my act together and grow food too instead of just weeds... I imagine you have discussed this before. Any tips?

Welcome Mama

Have you ever tried freezing sandwiches? that would save time and money on lunches. Cheese or meat based ones with pickle or mustard freeze well.

Fuzz I'd try a local florist, they'll be used to phone orders. I'm sorry about your dhs grandma.

Happy birthday to Collie, was it yesterday? Cake

Peppapissinpig · 18/07/2015 10:26

Fluffy, can you really freeze sandwiches Shock do they not go really soggy when thawed?

Which fillings are best for freezing - would save me sheds load of time if they froze well.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/07/2015 10:54

Yes, solid things like meat and cheese freeze well.

Not Mayo or low fat spreads though, or salad.

Things like pork, stuffing and apple sauce would be ok or corned beef and pickle/mustard.

OP posts:
Peppapissinpig · 18/07/2015 10:57

Is butter ok?

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/07/2015 10:59

Should be, it's 80% fat. I'm allergic to cows milk products so I just used pickle as a spread.

Dh likes Mayo so I can't freeze his.

Am thinking sandwiches for DCs and they eat pretty basic ham/cheese ones.

Mamatemba · 18/07/2015 11:31

Never even considered freezing sandwiches! Will try it (and skip the lettuce) Right, tomorrow I am going to have a go at pre-making food for the week.

girliefriend · 18/07/2015 12:22

Hi all hmm interesting about freezing sandwiches, not thought of that before. Dd loves tuna mayo which am guessing wouldn't freeze that well? But I like marmite and cheese Grin that would work right?

So dd has built the blue jet I am seriously impressed by her lego building skills! Will share a quick piture as am sure I have outed myself numerous times on this thread as it is Grin

Have missed so much in a week. Will read through thread to catch up!

I finally tackled lex &gas and pleased I did!!!!!
I have paid 124.00 a month since moving in....Haven't been getting the bills as its paper free. as paper bills would cost extra 24quidShock Have never checked the bills online Blush . The estimated readinds where out and were less than what they actually are....and the balance is over 800.00...as in that's what I owe them. Rang them up and the fixed tariff had ended last year and had automatically gone on standard tariff...they don't send out letters to inform you of this or to let you know that your not paying enough...guess why...because I'd ticked the paper free account to save 24pound...Blush Hmm Envy

Have given the true meter readings and waiting to find out the true balance...GULP! If I'd gone onto a fixed rate again I could've saved 700.00Hmm Robbing gits!!! It's a little two bedroomed house I have no idea how we've used so much energy and vet cross with self for not paying attention to the lec and gas bills and usage grhh

SpottyTeacakes · 18/07/2015 12:33

Ouch wheely.

£1 parking.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/07/2015 12:42

Girlie your dd looks lovely, that didnt take her long did it?.

wheely ouch indeed. If you have the energy email their ceo and complain, they really ought to tell you are changing tariff. Havent they taken a yearly meter read themselves?.

If you own the house some of the energy suppliers are still doing free cavity wall and loft insulation. Moneysaving expert will have a list of who's offering what.

wheelycote · 18/07/2015 12:55

fluffy it's online submitting meter readings....Have to be honest they email to say hits time to submit readings...it's one of those jobs I didn't get round tooBlush Blush
I've switched to sainsburys which would give me the same energy usage as using at present for 124.00. Have just got to work on getting the usage down. It's a rented house which is freezing in winter. Wooden floorboards where the draughts and wind blow through....we barely used living room Dec and Jan...lived in the kitchen and bedrooms....

That's bad isn't it..I've never found a warm rented house though. One place I would go to bed in joggy bottoms dressing gown socks and woolly hat hahaha
This is the nicest place and the rent is cheap obviously to do with it being cold!!

Because I've been saving I can cover whatever it is I owe them but it will leave a massive hole in savings but it's just made me more determined to save to protect us from any other 'oh s#%t' moments

OMG wheely!

£41 food shop, £25 birthday present for my sister. I got my Euros from M&S as I had to go in for the present and was pleased with the rate I got.

Happy birthday Collie!

My mum used to freeze our sandwiches, we would take them straight out the freezer in the morning and would be defrosted by lunchtime.

Peppapissinpig · 18/07/2015 14:14

Yes Wheely, complain. That's a crazy amount of money. Worth a go.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/07/2015 16:48

I've made a summer holiday planner. Just waiting for my 99p Velcro coins to arrive then we can finish Grin I've got lots of activities all cut out I'm going to Velcro on

babsmam · 18/07/2015 16:57

I need a summer holidays planner once we get past the exhausted, twisty first weekend (and that's probably just me tbf). Grin

Peppapissinpig · 18/07/2015 16:58

Spotty, Velcro coins??

babsmam · 18/07/2015 17:04

Cheap day today. Went to the library and changed our books. They very helpfully gave me until the Monday to return them so we wouldn't incur fines as on holiday when they are due back.
There was a kids workshop on so we spent 3 hours there for £2.50 (parking).

Park this afternoon and £2.80 on ice cream.

Lasagne from the freezer for tea.

Pointlessfan · 18/07/2015 17:17

NSD here, my dad took us all out for a pub lunch which was fab and I found 20p on my chair so I'm actually 20p up on today!
Have take away leftovers for tea. Picnic tomorrow with friends then I'm going to try and go for a few days without chocolate, cake or ice cream as my trousers are starting to feel a bit snug!
