I've always lived in the country tbh I don't know any different. I love it really but hate how everything is more expensive.

Same here Ipsos....if nothing else I have at least learnt to be much more mindful about spending money Grin

bantamgirl · 28/06/2015 16:13

Ispos - let me know your findings, I'm such an anorak LOL

I'm still here and still frugalling :-D although it's hard, very hard, and this month is looking at being the most expensive month for me yet

Tesco shop was £95, including loads of BBQ stuff (but it rained) and picnic stuff for sports day tomorrow.

Went to Waitrose to get potatoes to go with the lamb that was meant to be BBQ'd, £20 but that included a trowel Hmm 3 packs of sausage meat reduced to 49p each, 3 packs of mince raced to 99p each, some potatoes, juice for tomorrow's picnic.

Yesterday I got to DD2's swimming lesson to find the girls had taken her goggles out of her bag £8 for a new pair we didn't flipping need as already had 2pairs today hit to swimming and dopey DS had left his swimming trunks which I had put in his hand at home. £20 for a new pair. I had checked the size on hanger, but nit inside, removed the label, only to discover they were a 36" waist, not age 12 which the hanger had said. Went home for a pair, managed to get pool to refund them (huge frugal win) refused DD1 sweets for her part in yesterday's highness fiasco

I can feel a spending diary coming on from tomorrow . Things are creeping out of control .

Just emailed morrisons as both pack of red grapes bought Fri night are mouldy . Bb date 1 july.

Got loads of strawberries from the allotment though.

Peppapissinpig · 28/06/2015 17:34

That is really interesting Ipsos. Are you doing YNAB? I come to the end of my free trial tomorrow but am hoping the £40 investment will
Quickly pay for itself.

Just discovered air bed has a puncture and DS on school camp tomorrow. The old Peppa would have dashed out to Argos to get a replacement (+ petrol + parking). But the new and improved Peppa has borrowed one from a friend who will bring into school GrinGrin

See I am learning ,....-

Oh dear just spent £109 on Amazon Blush

However got loads for this!

Camera £65 got this one in the end camera plus memory card £6 (reduced for £20!)

2 lego sets for dd for Christmas Shock they were both reduced, for both sets roughly £18.

An adult colouring book for me £4 (inspired by mn thread!)

A dvd set £3.30

Think thats about it....

ipsos I used to do quite a few of the things you do, am also very guilty of spending nothing on myself but not being as frugal as I could be with dd.

Collie I know how you feel. If i'm not at work the only adult I see is dh. All my friends and I met our future dh's at the same time and just drifted apart. I work on my own in various locations for a few hours so I never get to know people either.

£23.49 on an outside light for the porch vestibule when I'm being poncey Grin

ipsos you've made brilliant progress in your first month.

NK5BM3 · 28/06/2015 19:26

Didn't spend as much as expected at summer fete but only because I really didn't have cash on me!! Think I had £4?? Grin So spent that and dh had to fork out the rest but he too had something like £10 so we didn't spend as much as I might have if I had brought money. All good.

Today £3 church. £9 at primark to get a blue t shirt for ds as he needs it for sports day tomorrow and a hat for dd and flip flops for her too (those two were non essentials). £8 for hair gel for dh but it was 3 for 2. So should last him a while. £7 pants for me.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/06/2015 20:02

No we do. She's only just turned 5! There's two other parents there and I do talk to them but wouldn't call them friends.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/06/2015 20:07

It's much harder to make friends as an adult, maybe we are better judges of character.

They say kids are cruel but adults can be just as bad.

NK5BM3 · 28/06/2015 20:13

Ipsos WinkGrin! Bad isn't it? Relishing my m&s pants. Oh I forget, £5 for mcdonalds breakfast. I had the sausage mcmuffin meal (love it) and dd who is 4 had a frappaccino. And then ate my hash brown too. Shock Life.

I work ft so I don't get to socialise at the school gate. Ds goes to after school 3x a week and dh works from home so does most of the pick ups. I do pick up once a week (I pick dd up from nursery). I have relied on mums I knew from nursery whose children have ended up in the same school/class. That's 3 sets of parents (there were 6 kids who went together). Through them I got to know some others but I'm only really close to 4 of them (these 3 and one more).

NK5BM3 · 28/06/2015 20:29

I think as adults we have many more identities and interests. And so much pressure on our time given that we have the kids and family time to deal with too. I find that I have to make a real effort with friends even those who live 2 miles away due to the fact that our circle doesn't overlap so much now.

I have about 3/4 good friends who I was really close to when ds was in nursery but they all went to a different school to ds (purely because of location and where we live v where they live). I have 2-3x a year spa days with 2 of them. I also am trying to sort out a meal with one of them. But it's difficult. They have their own lives and their children's lives to sort out.

I've just managed to confirm a dinner out with 3 other women. We meet say 3/4 times a year for dinner. these are the women I'm close to through ds' school (and the women i knew through nursery). We are closer now due to children's class and we share things like lifts to various birthday parties, sports days etc.
