Hi All,
I couldn't see a new thread yet, so thought I'd start one for July. The jacket potato is a marker for starting summer off on a frugal note. :).

NSD so far.

If I make lasagne tomorrow with frozen mince, will I be able to freeze half of it? Ie can frozen mince be cooked and refrozen? In fact rather than using it all in the lasagne, can I cook it and then re freeze so I can use it for spaghetti Bol or something next week?

Thank you!

northender · 24/07/2014 22:12

Welcome karbea Smile. That will be fine with the mince. I do that all the time

CremeEggThief · 24/07/2014 22:22

Welcome Karbea.

sorry keep losing this thread and only phone to find u on. was planning on an Aldi trip for uniform today but mil got dd some school dresses and m&s trousers in sale and only just bought polo shirts and tshirts and cardis so figured would be able to grab little bits I need in sainsburys and save the temptation of shopping in Aldi whose middle aisle always costs me loads. Earnt £14 through second hand book sale and managed to avoid tempation of dd to have a mcdonalds amd instead bought burgers from supermarket for less than the cost of a happy meal, with enough to fed all.

AdoraBell · 25/07/2014 03:15

Welcome Karbea, that fish pie sounds lovely. The general rule with frozen stuff is not to refreeze it in the same form. So defrosting it and cooking it changes it from raw to cooked, obvs, so you are freezing a different thing. I do it all the time and haven't poisoned anyone yetGrin

NSD today and yesterday.

Iamnotanugget · 25/07/2014 06:33

Welcome karbea. I'm not sure how long elmlea will last once open so I'd put it in white sauce for lasagne. Re mince have you thought about adding oats and/or grated carrot to bulk it out? That way you may be able to get lasagne, spag bol and shepherd's pie or add some value kidney beans to the last portion, maybe a green pepper and some chilli for the kind of chilli my dm made when I was young.

disclaimer I'm a vegetarian so have no idea how those will turn out.

£9.99 on bike helmet for dd. I was hoping to leave ot until next month but the holidays are here and she's not allowed to ride without one so at least found one for a more reasonable price. Today will be lsd, just need milk.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 25/07/2014 12:18

hey all! have missed a few days as been in hospital tues-thurs having more tests for this possibly bowel possibly PCOS related back and tummy pain I keep having!
Feeling better now and opened the CC bill from last month, had thought it would be £700 and set aside that amount to clear it in full but it was £1100 - just shows the price of taking your eye off the ball even for 1 month! I think I will get rid of the CC altogether, I can clear it in full thankfully but it will mean not giving DH any money a second month in a row to pay off CC2. Grrr.

Cross with myself.

CoolCadbury · 25/07/2014 12:21

I need your help please. As usual I have left it far too late to buy DS's sandals and there are no more left in his size. Have tried in-store at supermarkets, online M and S, and Gap. Size 13, preferably closed toe variety as he is a bit accident prone.

Iamnotanugget · 25/07/2014 14:30

Cadbury you've given me a project while bf. The only ones I can find fitting that description are from Brantano. John Lewis etc only have flip flops. Do you have a TK Maxx nearby? Or try ebay for some 'brand new, unwanted gift' probably stolen ones?

SpottyTeacakes · 25/07/2014 15:17

Cool have you tried amazon?

I bought some peas (£1.75) then left them in my parents freezer Sad

£60 tesco delivery it's working out cheaper than going to lidl Confused

Makingchanges · 25/07/2014 15:41

OMG - Just got todays post. When DH was made redundant we spent a day one weekend making PPI claims. Most came back without any luck. However I have just got my biggest credit card claim back. This is the credit card I have had since I was 18 and has been relied upon for any overspend. They have upheld my complaint and refunded me £5,300!!! I can't believe it, I never thought any of the claims would come to anything. This will make such as difference as we are such financial trouble at the moment. It won't pay off my credit card unfortunately but it will dramatically reduce it and make it so that hopefully all my debts will be paid off early next year which is about a year quicker than I could even have hoped. I have been dancing around the kitchen, just couldn't believe it!! Oh and the cheque came in the same post!

SpottyTeacakes · 25/07/2014 15:49

Making that's amazing!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/07/2014 15:50

That's fantastic news, well done!. Bank that cheque ASAP.

£7 squash and cat litter
£37 food.

£10 petrol.

Makingchanges · 25/07/2014 16:12

Don't worry will make a special trip to chopping centre to bank cheque tonight. I know DH will want to do something with it to make summer holidays more special but if this last few months has taught me anything, its to pay off your debts and build up some savings. I never, ever want to be in the same position again.

On a more frugal note, took my gran shopping today and spent £20 but avoided some big temptations in discount warehouse shop and the range so quite proud of myself. Did spend £14 on a KFC but didn't get back till nearly 3pm and both myself and DD were starving so think that is allowed. We can call it a celebration now Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/07/2014 16:18

Absolutely agree with you there.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 25/07/2014 16:27

woooooo making Grin that is great!

Wow making that's great!!! Maybe we should try too...

£16 dry cleaning some clothes. £22 at morrisons picking up some stuff - still need to do weekly shop at Aldi. So, morrisons wasn't a good place to go - it wasn't particularly expensive but I think it was the sight of all the other things that I usually blank out when I'm in Aldi that I picked up things I don't usually have, like quiche for lunch, coleslaw etc.

£10 at the beach. Went to the sandy beach instead and it was really nice. Spent on some rides, and ice creams. Actually found free carpark. Always a good thing. Smile

Dinner is from the freezer. Well, meat and prawns bought ages ago and found in freezer.

Passthecake30 · 25/07/2014 20:12

making that's fabulous! I think u are allowed a kfc with news like that Grin

Lunch out and drinks after work. £14.40 in total (one single barcardi and coke being £4.40 omg when did drink get so expensive? ?!!)

£4.90 on a travel ticket for an alternative route home. I had my ticket but tubes were broken so had to go a different way and won't be able to claim back as trains fine I just couldn't get to them!

CremeEggThief · 25/07/2014 21:16

£4.45 on lunch in a local cafe.

Fantastic, Making :). Hope that cheque is in the bank now. I recently got £255.41 back, which was CPP protection on my credit card that I hadn't actually needed. It only took a few weeks to sort it too.

thatgirloverthere · 25/07/2014 21:33

Today I had mostly an ok day, we went to the beach, spent £9 on chips for lunch, took drinks with us so save about a fiver there, then £10 Shock on ice creams as a treat, popped to sainsburys for a few things and spent £6.60, we arrived home just before A real bad storm so that was lucky.

The children were watching Elf ( yesterday it was the polar express ;) ) and I decided to be very frugal and wax my bikini line myself with some hotwax I already had, and omg it was the worst idea ever, it didn't work and now I have a huge bruise, honestly it's purple and very very sore.

Have a Tesco delivery booked for tomorrow, I'm just trying to make sure that we actually need everything on it.

Karbea · 25/07/2014 22:27

Hello all,

My dh cooked the lasagne as I was Woking (ot), and there's enough for tomorrow, so that's good.
Biggest result was 3 packets of free grapes. Can I freeze grapes?

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/07/2014 22:30

Yes but they go a bit mushy when you defrost them.

I'd just wolf them down.

CoolCadbury · 25/07/2014 22:58

Frozen grapes straight from the freezer are perfect for this weather.

I have been suffering really badly from headaches in this heat. Yesterday, we went walking to a local beauty spot. Oh man, I was worn out from the heat and we were in the shade! DP was like, but you've lived in hotter countries. Yes, but those countries have air con in houses and everywhere else.

Fantastic making.

iamnotanugget. Thank you, I will investigate Brantano.

CoolCadbury · 25/07/2014 22:59

spotty will look at amazon too. Thanks.
