CremeEggThief · 01/07/2014 16:27

Hi All,
I couldn't see a new thread yet, so thought I'd start one for July. The jacket potato is a marker for starting summer off on a frugal note. :).

NSD so far.

Had a very spending day, but planned, drove out to a vineyard with a fantastic restaurant. Haven't been there since 2011. Spent £80 on lunch for 4.

I fell over - before the vino - but no Dr needed, just some home TLC.

Brilliant news on your claim Making Grin

Will catch later, typing hand is sore.

SpottyTeacakes · 26/07/2014 04:00

Ouch thatgirl!

Adora hope you're ok!

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/07/2014 10:19

Before the wine eh? Wink

Has anyone managed to get their home insurance matched and the cashback they would have got for switching paid by their current home insurance?.

I just want the moon on a stick, wif sprinkles.

Karbea · 26/07/2014 10:49

I've just been around switching all the switches off. Pretty satisfying to see the little light go from beep...beep to beep..........................beep :)

Just worked out we are -£90 on the week, I'm off to work at 12 for an 8 hour shift so that'll be about £60 pounds back in!

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/07/2014 10:55

Noes the best time to switch electric tariffs karbea, you can switch 49 days before a tariff ends with no penalties.

Karbea · 26/07/2014 11:29

Yes I did mine yesterday, we've gone to coop.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 26/07/2014 13:36

shortscotty · 26/07/2014 14:31

Popping out of lurkdom again. Put myself on a relatively tight budget as we have just got a new car so outgoings increased quite dramatically. I say myself as my lot haven't got a clue about cutting back, the "Can we go to the shop, can i have can we have" refrain rings all day here.
Last few weeks I have switched to lidl and yesterday did the weekly shop for £58 using the £5 off voucher, less than I had budgeted. Now the challenge is to stay out the shops.
Been fruit picking today (cost £7) and dropped into nearby farm shop to look at pretty things, spent £7 on two pies then £4 at co op for crisps and sugar to turn the mushier raspberries into jam. It made 5 pots so can relax about that spend (supermarket jam for five pots would be nearly fiver)

Passthecake30 · 26/07/2014 14:55

£85 on asda delivery, I almost gained a bag of freebies but I handed them back. ...beetroot juice and oatly. ...bleurgh, not welcome here!

£12 for ds barbers and £4 on a pack of 2 skirts for dd...not really needed...but they had flamingos on and I couldn't resist!

Out tonight with the school mummies. ..will be spendy but I go out never once in a blue moon!

AuditAngel · 26/07/2014 15:58

I've been busy for the last few days, so now I'll rack my brains for what I've spent.

Thursday, £62 on diesel, nothing else as I remembered to take my lunch.

Friday £112.50 for 9 tickets across 3 separate performances to see the children in Joseph. I might get £25 back, but I doubt it. £12.45 for 3 drinks in the pub for my team. £6.50 for a travel card to go and play in our office netball tournament. Free drinks made up for it! £3.60 for late Night burger and chips (I needed the toilet)

Today £46 in the pet shop buying a scratching post as the cat is scratching the walls and carpets and a few toys to keep her out of mischief.
£5 to DS as the kids need money for tea between the shows. They did well on Thursday as only spent £5 between them.

AuditAngel · 26/07/2014 15:58

Oops, forgot £3 lunch on Friday

AdoraBell · 26/07/2014 18:00

Cake hope you had a good night out.

Fluffy indeed it was before the wine. Hurt my right hand/wrist mostly so cannot grip anything. So what did I order at lunch? Yep, a steak. Doh! It was delicious thoughGrin and surprisingly easy to hack to pieces wielding the knife in my left hand. Normally when we go there we have lunch and come back laden down with cases of lovely wine but we couldn't afford both this year. Felt wrong coming home empty handed.

Scotty that problem abounds here too, going out yesterday DH asked me to get bars of chocolate while he filled the car, that was where I fell over, then DD1 pipes up with "I haven't had breakfast " and then after lunch she wanted to stop on the motorway to get something to eat because she was peckish.

Today DD1 needs materials for the art project. Not sure yet how much it will be but shouldn't be expensive this time.

CremeEggThief · 26/07/2014 18:51

£20.11 in Lidl.

Ouch, Adora! Hope you get better soon.

Iamnotanugget · 26/07/2014 18:57

making that's fabulous news, somewhat better than dh's £90 success Grin

East who organised those parties!? Only my non parent friends would think swimming at that time a good idea! Hope you had a good time anyway.

Have had about £120 from cashback paid into my account. I've used it to buy last few bits of dds new uniform and pay off some of last months debt.

£2.20 on strawberries and cream. £4.65 on swimming.

NK5BM3 · 26/07/2014 19:36

Oh adora hope your hand is better.

Spent £65 at Aldi today. Not sure how... But there was a lot of food. Went to the beach again, and spent about £10 again.

Bumped into some really rude woman who was trying to get through a really narrow shop alleyway with her giant buggy. Apparently I was in her way... She apparently said excuse me but I really didn't hear her. She started hollering at me and having a go at me. Wtf.

Resisted fish and chips which would have cost something like £30 over here.... So came home and had fish and chips instead (which inconveniently bought yesterday). Grin That's cost me £4.50 for 4 of us.

Had defrosted some Bolognese as didn't have space in freezer and have transformed them into lasagne. That will be tomorrow's dinner. That's ok isn't it?

thatgirloverthere · 26/07/2014 19:57

I've had a high spend day, spent £10 at the market on two packs of loom bands that dd1 seriously needed(!) they were 2 packs for £1 so quite a good deal, and the rest was on cut price food and cleaning stuff.

I was silly enough to visit Home Bargains for loo roll, ended up spending £23 on various random things, from toiletries to toys.

Tesco shop was delivered just after 6pm, I'd ordered a small gammon joint estimated cost was just under £6, they sent a huge one that cost £10.16p Shock I was horrified, I'm going to try and make a few other meals out of it as it's far too expensive for just the one.

I've just paid off £55 of my next directory account and still need to pay £50 (at least) off of Very.co.uk. This month we've had to stash quite a chunk of our salaries because we are going away and need spending money, so this school holiday is going to be very tight, thankfully we will be away for a week and then visiting family until the end of august so I'm hoping we manage to get by.

Hope everyone else had a good (frugal) day!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 26/07/2014 21:05

Iamnotanugget I made husband do the swimming party I did the easy one next door!! Crazy parents choosing swimming n a time with tired grumpy kids but apparently was ok. My 3yr old just gone to bed at 8.45 normally in bed n asleep 7-7.30 oh well fingers crossed for 8.30 lay in tomorrow

CremeEggThief · 26/07/2014 21:07

Another £6.75 in Tesco, but managed to use a £3 voucher I got from Tesco Orchard. So £26.86 altogether today.

Karbea · 26/07/2014 22:00

thatgirl I think you could have rejected a substitution.

I'm furious with my dh for buying the dog a toy and himself 3 dunking doughnuts whilst I was at work. I know it's only a couple of quid but the dog didn't need more toys and he won't eat the doughnuts, they'll go straight in the bin.
I got burgers for 45p each for BBQ tmr, that's pretty cheap isn't it?

AuditAngel · 26/07/2014 23:28

Burgers for DD2 and I while DS and DD1 at theatre, £8. Church collection £3. Collected 4 kids from theatre to discover they hadn't had tea today (not enough time between shows). 3 happy meals and something for DS £12 ish. Both the mums asked if I had taken money from the girls bags, but they were in the boot and I went to the drive through. I should get it back.

AuditAngel · 26/07/2014 23:29

Forgot, pack of sweets for DD2 as she was amazing in her swimming lesson. Unfortunately the vending machine wasn't working, so we went to the shop, £1.59 fir a pack of sweets, but she gave some to her cousin and auntie.

AdoraBell · 27/07/2014 01:21

Thanks for the well wishes. I have a bit more movement than this morning and it's getting less painfull.

DH spent about £80, £11 of that was DD1's art material, he's trying to take over but she's being very good at not letting him, end result is he's bought things she won't use, about £60 went on dog food for a couple of weeks, and the rest on odd bits in the supermarket. I spent £2.80 on Ibuprofen in a low dose as I don't need 600mg, I'm not in that much pain.

Karbea those doughnuts will keep for tomorrow if they haven't been thrown already.
