Pasta bake with bacon chucked in & garlic bread. Total cost less than £1 per head.
Plates scraped clean.

Last night it was hunters chicken with rice.

I haven't found anything we haven't liked since I started shopping there.

Saved loads of money and we eat really well.

I absolutely love Aldi! I like them so much that I have set up a Facebook page, just for fun, where I write about my top Aldi finds. Just search for I love Aldi Uk on Facebook.

I am (sadly) very excited that my local Aldi is being extended and when finished will be the biggest one in Scotland. And it is about two minutes along the road from me.

The aldi tomato sauce and mayo is much nicer than either Heinz or hellmans IMO.
The kids also like their biscuits and chocolate.
And the ice creams are fine.
But for me the real surprise was the medications!
89p for their version of Berocca - £4.50 in my local chemist.
Ranitidine for 75p!
Ibuprofen for 25p!
Marvellous - esp with winter coming up
Don't buy meat, and the oven chips were vile but everything else has been fine.

If the meal balls are not the best, try a couple of burger and mix in a couple of nice sausage. Make the balls and proceed as usual.

I cook their meatballs for 20 mins in the oven, all the fat runs off and they brown nicely with no effort. Added sautéed garlic and onions to a jar of their chilli and tomato sauce, added the meatballs and the family loved it.
I've been shopping at Aldi as my main shop the past year now and do find I need to do a top up Sainsburys run every three weeks to buy stuff Aldi don't do, but overall now buying the vast majority of our weekly shop at about 25% less than before. Gradually trying the meat there too , so far have found their beef mince, free range chicken, frozen chicken breasts, gammon joints and pork steaks all good and far cheaper than elsewhere. You do need to dry fry the mince to get the fat off though, but the resulting meat is fine.

DD loves the bag of frozen prawns they do for 1.99, cook spaghetti as per instructions, saute onion, tenderstem broccoli, garlic, chilli flakes, add creme fraiche and parmigiana cheese, serve with garlic bread and salad. A winner everytime

I love Aldi/Lidl. Decided to meal plan and each payday I went to Tesco and spent £100 for the month on what was on the menu. Mostly fresh so could so from scratch.

Then went to Aldi and saved a fortune. Still do a big shop for freezer/cupboard stuff then 2 week top up.

But I can't let go of Tesco value corn flakes and coco pops. And my Azera coffee!

I'm a recent convert. We are eating even more healthier than before! I make loads of smoothies so the cheap fruit and veg is amazing! Love their version of Oreo cookies-49p and the kids can't tell the difference. Their milk choc with almonds is to die for. Definitely wish I'd ditched Waitrose earlier- weekly shop has gone down from £100 per week to around £40-50 only! Any recommendations would be great.

I always liked Aldi but didn't go as couldn't face a supermarket anywhere after very stressful full time week at work so treated myself to Sainsburys delivery pass instead. Have made a decision to ditch my job, and look for lesser paid job, so back to Aldi now. I was a big spender in Sainsburys at least £200 a week, so really confident this is going to be a big saving opportunity for me. Really impressed but the super 6 this week, little carrots were amazing, and the cabbages and tomatoes. Got the dishwasher tablets too which seem to be working well. What's everyone's consensus on the laundry tablets / liquid ?

annielostit · 07/12/2014 16:12

Aldi classic or lidl all in one dishwasher tabs are good- lidl DWT matched Finish a-in-1 in tests but quarter of price. The 15/ £1 at pound shop are good too. Refuse to buy branded said item.

Aldi liquid wash is good, just like persil. don't like softner - not smelly enough. Wash pouches are same as persil, checked the ingredients on the box

chosenone · 07/12/2014 16:42

Beef wellingtons. Pricey for aldi, around £6. DP worried they looked small but a lovely piece of fillet beef in pastry was beautifu, and very filling. Comes with a really flavoursome gravy. Specially selected frozen haddock/cod. Huge and chunky fish, we have instead of chip shop for a treat. Prosecco...the silver labelled one. Amazing

annielostit · 15/12/2014 20:57

Just made mince pies with aldi brandy infused mincemeat- its shite- all runny & sticky.
Buy another brand!!!!

Well, I bit the bullet this afternoon and decided to do the big Christmas shop at Aldi today. Previously we went to multiple shops, Sainsburys, M&S as well as Aldi, but this time I wrote a proper list and pretty much stuck to it, and got all our Christmas food and drink for 6 of us for £120, that's about half of what we paid in total last year so I think that is brilliant

That included two whole ducks, all veg, salad, dips, smoked salmon, prawns, cheeseboard, nibbles, wine, prosecco, port and some basics like flour and sugar to make some cakes and deserts for the buffet.

It was pretty busy, we couldn't park so OH ended up. dropping me off and picking me up which was better. Best bit was they had a packer on my line who was just wonderful and speedily packed my trolley quicker (and with all the frozen and chilled stuff together) better than I could have done it!

Well done Aldi Kingsway Derby!
